    Welcome to the IHoP

Knock on the door and in the calmest, most polite way possible tell them to make their dog STFU. I know most areas in Texas with noise ordinances only start handing out tickets for dog barking after the second or third incidence I don't think anybody was home, and that's why the dog was barking. I heard somebody knock on a door but not sure if it was his or not. Didn't hear any dialogue so maybe they didn't find anybody.
  2. Make sure the RCAs are plugged into the subwoofer output on the head unit and not a front or rear. Increasing the gain doesn't help at all? Like not even a little bit?

    Welcome to the IHoP

My computer decided to crash this weekend. I was incredibly lucky that my computer-oriented friend from my hometown was visiting, because he figured out the problem. I was just surfing the web Sunday morning when out of nowhere I get a blue screen. I shut down and try to restart, and it doesn't. It powers on but doesn't output anything to the monitor or load anything, and just gives 4 beeps repeatedly. Unbeknownst to me, this is the computer telling you what's wrong with it. He looked up the code and I think it was cache error or something like that. We opened up the case to inspect and he thought it may be the RAM. Pulled out the 4 sticks equaling 3 GB and tried starting it, and it gave a different code which meant no ram or something. Obviously. So it appeared the RAM was the culprit. He started putting in one stick at a time to find out which one was bad, and found out the two 512 MB sticks were the lousy ones. Turns out they're a different make and model than the 1 GB sticks, and he says of much lesser quality. Thanks, Dell, that makes a lot of sense. So now I'm just running with 2 GB or ram instead of 3. Don't really notice a difference yet, though I haven't done anything too strenuous. Might order some new 512 MB sticks from Newegg before long. When it first happened I was so pissed off, I've only owned this for 15 months and of course my warranty was only for 12 months. At first he scared me and said it could be the motherboard, in which case I may as well get a new computer. I'da really been pissed then. But I was really lucky he was here since I'm no computer genius and would have had to take it to Best Buy, where they probably would have charged me $100 and told me to get a new motherboard or something.

As far as I know all Goodyear tires are made in USA. After further research, it appears Goodyear has facilities in around 28 countries. However, tires made in those countries are intended for those areas. I believe you should feel safe that your tires are made in the USA.

    Welcome to the IHoP

Neighbor's dog has been barking for 30 minutes now. So annoying. It's ruining my cool air night with windows open. How the F can an owner allow that to go on? Where is your conscious saying hey, my dog is loud as f*ck, I should corral him?

    Welcome to the IHoP

I still have FIFA 2010 in the wrapper, it is the only game I have that is for the PS3. My friend was trying hard to get me to buy a PS3 this weekend. I just couldn't justify the cost since I only play video games once every 2-3 weeks maybe, and I'm happy enough with my PS2. Still have games that I got for Xmas last year for it that I haven't played yet.
  7. Just because subzero builds boxes that way doesn't make it right. I can't think of a 15" sub that would sound good in a 1.75 cube ported box. Way too peaky and not enough LFE. I'd never buy that ported box.

    Small VS. Big Aero Ports

Not sure why nobody has said it, but one of the main reasons to have larger port area is port noise. If you use too small of a port, the air will have to move faster through the port since the area is smaller, and it can cause a chuffing sound and even hinder performance of the sub. It would be similar to sucking through a coffee straw vs. a regular straw. If you have x amount of air to move through a port, it will have to move faster through a smaller port to get it all through in the same amount of time (one stroke of the subwoofer's cone). If the port is too small, all of the x amount of air may not make it through the port in time before the cone has changed direction, and now that amount of air that didn't make it through is pushing the opposite direction on the sub's cone, which is trying to pressurize the box in the opposite direction. Larger diameter subs and those with higher xmax need larger port area because they displace more air with each stroke So while your walmart sub may only have 8 mm xmax so it may be ok with a 3" diameter port, an SSD has three times that amount and would likely need at least one 4" port or larger.

    Horrible rattling

I've done this as well. I didn't want to mess with adjusting the latch and moving screw holes into the body and all that, so I just wrapped some tape around the hook on the bumper that the latch goes onto. That makes it tighter and helped. Tape will tear after repeated openings and closings, but I hardly ever opened mine so it wasn't a big deal. otherwise you could find something a little more sturdy to wrap a time or two around.

    Best postion for front stage

What's wrong with the factory door locations? I'm 6'3" and have a '98 explorer 4d and I have my mids in the factory door locations and tweeters in the sail panel (little plastic piece just inside the door jam by the window), and they're plenty loud. To make them really stand out, get an amp.
  14. That Bugatti is nice. The Cizeta seems to borrow a lot from Lamborghini, but I don't like the rear quarter panels.

    Fi Q enclosure question

On the bigger side of enclosures, the sub will play lower and be more efficient. But you're within Fi's recommendation so it's not going to be anything unusual.

    Horrible rattling

You don't need to sound deaden, you need to mass load. You have to get those panels heavy enough to withstand the pressure and fill in cracks so that they don't vibrate against each other. Find something that's heavy and stick it on there. Same with the back deck. Some people have success using expanding spray foam to get between panels that are vibrating against each other, but be careful with it because it can expand a LOT and actually bend your panels.

    Fi Q enclosure question

Yes that should be correct. Is the q-logic box just a wooden rectangular box or does it custom fit into a small corner of the trunk?

YES! Too bad since I've had my Explorer, I actually like 4 dr SUVs now. But I feel like a soccer mom for saying it's so convenient.

    Welcome to the IHoP

That makes no sense to me My guess is it's due to cardiovascular differences. Less blood being able to pump may give less stimulation or less oxygen to the brain or other body parts. Makes sense to me.

    Simple crossover question

The crossover range is just that, it's for the crossover. Not for all the frequencies the amp plays. Technically an amplifier will play all frequencies, it's just that depending on how it's built it will play some better than others. Some don't have the power supply to play very low frequencies (<15 hz) with the same amplitude as higher bass frequencies, others can't reproduce tweeter-level frequencies with enough accuracy to be used (generally why Class D amps are for subs only). The crossover itself has limitations based on the components used for it within the amplifier. Certain components can only filter between certain frequencies, hence the 40-400 hz range. If you read a crossover's specs, it will say something like 12 db/octave. This means that it will attenuate the signal by 12 decibels for each octave below or above the crossover point, depending on if it's a high or low pass crossover. So for example, if you set a 12 db/octave low pass crossover at 100 hz, 200 hz will have 12 db less output than 100 hz. 400 hz will have 24 db less, 800 hz will be 36 db less, 1,600 hz will be 48 db less, etc. It's not a brick wall. It's an attenuation point.

2 way and 3 way, Im confused

When one talks about 2- and 3-ways, they're only talking about component sets. The sub does not factor in. So if you have a mid and tweet, it's 2-way. Woofer, mid, and tweet is 3-way. SUBwoofer doesn't count. To run a 3-way component set active you either need an amp with 6 channels of amplification (yes they do exist), or you get a 4 channel and a 2 channel. You don't have to have all the speakers ran by the same amplifier.
