thumper, may i ask wut u mean about class d amps not havin it down low?
class D amps are a definate no no for someone like myself who likes to comunicate with whales.....
the further away I go from class D the more impressive the low end becomes
so far I have not found any amp that even comes remotely close to my Crown A3000gti for bottom end...not even close

I have hit 147db+ @ 27hz with four 10" woofers in a 4 door sedan on 3200w rms...... as well as 143.6db @ 10hz
bet I could have gotten 3 to 5 db more out of it with a bit more tweeking
the install, subs and enclosure are a big part of it but the amplifier (beleive it or not) matters every bit as much
personally I never had much luck doing this with a class D amp..they just don't have it down low

I have tried one combination that works even better than the one I showed here but it
comes at a much higher price range.....
Herbalife weiught gain protein combined with the Male Factor , Cell Activator and their multi vitamin
...probably the best nutritional products I have ever taken but friggin $$$$$
my sister uses Herbalife products and she has been in the top 3 in Canada for the past 6 or 7 years
competing in Natural (no steroids) Fitness competitions
once I am back to work and can afford the stuff I will be going back to it

I actually never really made any money building enclosures...with the Canadian prices of materials and the time put in
combined with all the money I had to dish out from after the fact billing from shipping on the enclosures I sent to the US
profit was pretty well nothing...to the point that all the fun was taken out of it
plus car audio in Canada is pretty much dead.....
saddly it's a starving industry with min wage income at best..not worth my time anymore
I will always have beats in my ride but as far as taking on others projects I'm officially throwing in the towel...

Hey thumper i understand you've been extremely busy. I was just wondering if you did custom enclosure designs for sale? I would love to get one similar to the 2 15" xcon's in the Dodge Dakota X-cab. Completely custom for my own car, my idea is much like that box. Or if you have any designers you know that could help me out i'd much appreciate it. Thanks
at the moment I have all my spare time spent reading and studdying for school...not a cake walk like Level C was ( my brain hurts..LOL)
I have talked about this with my wife and the best thing for our family is to put everything into my welding career
with the amount of $$$ I will be earning with this preasure ticket I doubt I'll be getting back into selling designs or enclosures ever again.....
it will have to be back at the hobby level....my builds will be limited to myself and friends after I have that preasure ticket in my hands

aint no way to make an L7 sound good..I have tried..square subs sound like they are chewing down a good mealwhen the hz drop to the floor...
Then you suck at box design
yup your right...,... I suk at box design.....
as far as dropping.... the 12" L7's I had couldn't even hold a candle to a few brands of 10" I have tried for dropping low
notes...not even close...llike wayyyyyyy not even close......Kicker Squares don't drop the lows worth beans with out
committing suicide
all it takes is a video camera, termlab and four 12" L7's on 3,000w to prove me wrong..
seriously though...MANY have tried to impress me with a square sub...it has not happened yet
..I was even forced into a blind comparison for being a smart ass about it on CCA by a local dealer/installer....
I won........they have a very unique sound to them that my ears can pick out easily ( personal listening taste I guess )

I have seen alot of loud single subs.....9 out of 10 times though some kid show's up with
a alpine type R in an ugly silicone box and an abortion of an install and blows it away by a db....LOL
it's not the sub....spending the time testing different boxes/configurations will make any $300 sub loud
BTW....
aint no way to make an L7 sound good..I have tried..square subs sound like they are chewing down a good meal
when the hz drop to the floor...

So far I'm in the top 5 of my class.
Keeping my nose in the books and practicing whenever I get a chance to strike an arc.
I love welding! It's fun!
Hot work.......but FUN!!
keep it up....good grades in welding means alot...specially if you are really good in the Practical end
I had a bit of a head start being a welders helper on the pipeline...completely kicked ass in Level C and made the Deans List
that little peice of paper is the most valuable page in my resume

When would you have to go for a re-certification?
Mine is every 6 months to run a bead.
My cert is good in US, Canada and some parts of Europe.
I'd just have to pass the "in house" exam/test
I'm in a Red Seal Apprentership trade...level c (already done)...Level B...(doing now) and level a comes next
a Red Seal ticket is good anywhere
...you need to test for the Canadian Welding Beareu every 2 years for the ticket as long as you are working
(for each position and process)..and if you do not work for 2 months you need a retest to be certified
the Natural Gas Distribution preasure ticket is totally seperate..this ticket requiers testing 3 or 4 times a year
I beleive

the spring, summer and fall here is really nice working weather..it isn't that bad
I have worked with this company before ...some members of my family have been employed
with them since the late 1970's .........I have a good 10 years experience working with natural
gas line as a welders helper, plastic fuser and a labourer

I cut and bend mine this Thursday!
As long as I pass the damn cap!!
I've been undercutting them lately during practice and it's
kinda got me nervous.
I have never really had a problem with undercut on my caps
turn your heat down a hair and/or change the rod angle slightly...slow down a bit and let it fill

Nice Trevor!!!
And good luck to ya bro!
I'm currently going for my 3G & 4G Stick Certification
(Vertical & Overhead Arc or Stick) using 7018
That pressure test looks intense!!!!
it is intense.....2 hours of reading/book work each night too
we start cutting cupons and bending them in friday....
I have done LOTS of X Ray welds in the past when I was building BC Goverment Highway Bridges

this is welded in the flat rolled 1G position....I spin the pipe as I weld it
overhead welding is not really that dificult with the right rod....
surface tension holds the puddle in place long enought to solidify

well after recovering I got offered work on Natural Gas Pipeline so I have to upgrade my Level C welding ticket to
a Level B Preasure ( 4 months ) and then I have 4- 6 weeks of Preasure Testing with the Natural Gas company....
still gonna build car audio on my spare time/weekends when I'm done school...I just can't make $200K a year building
boxes.........
no build logs so might show a few progress pics as I go...
pics of the shop...sorry for the blurriness...I'm using my phone for these
4"
clamp up
tack....
root pass complete (6010) and about to tie in the hot pass (7018)

I have tried alot of different weight gain protein/vitamin combinations and I just found one
that works freaky well (at least for me)....I am on the 4th bucket of protein and the 4th bottle
of vitamins..... I started out as a skinny bonerack under 170 lbs when I got out of the hospital and I
am up to almost 200 pounds and it all came on as muscle tone..very impressed
what was your weigth before surgery ??... i had surgery on my knee, lost 15lbs and i cant gain them back, its been 3 months...
I started out at 210 pounds ripped before I started getting sick
and stopped working out ......I beleive I was down to about 167 pounds at the worst......
finally starting to get by build back..............

Excellent craftsmanship. I would love to spend a week with you building boxes and learning
I have been a welder/fabricator for 6 years and a machinist for over 5 years. I never really had an opportunity to hone in my wood working skills.
I am also a welder/fabricator.....I start the level B on tuesday for 4 months and 6 weeks preasure testing for Natural Gas pipeline........

I have had both subs in my install and built several enclosures for each
the W7 and Xcon are two totally different subs.....
the Xcon will take way more power and hits a bit harder..
the W7 is smoother sounding and can peak at a much lower frequency than the Xcon
for abuse and hard hitting I give it to the Xcon but for SQ I would give it to the W7
..personally I use the Xcon because of the bonus power handling and impact

the amplifier has nothing to do with the quality of a recording..
but...all amplifiers are NOT created equal...I have heard some well built class D that sound better
than some poorly built class A/B..and I have heard some class A/B that eat even the best class D
BTW...
I am half deaf with tenitus and I can tell the difference on the first note between a good and crap amp
but that's a totally different topic...LOL

I think we will go with vinyl on them...white to match
the port and trim on the woofer enclosure
almost got both of them ready to cover

I play very few MP3 recordings in my system....most MP3 files sound really tinny ,hollow or metallic
with very limited detail difference between some instruments..I find alot of MP3's really hard to listen to
at the same time I do get the odd store bought CD that sounds like it was recorded in someones a spare bedroom.....

the window handles just made it more challenging...LOL
I'll continue tomorrow

I doubt I'll leave Canada...I have full Medical/Dental coverage thru my Union and I have enough welding work ahead to
last untill I retire...but....
I think I am going to find myself 2 or 3 people with decent rides and the cash to build some sick comp systems to
work with .....poundthatsound.com will most likely turn into a competition stats/picture site for the select few
