    Alternator

Ok, so far ive gotten a answer from excessive amperage for my saturn alt. The largest bolt on they can make me will be 200 amps. Will this 200 amp alt be enough for me daily pounding my KX2500.1? I need to know soon so i can go ahead and make a choice. How is excessive amperages quality? Thanks in advance! Chris McDonald

my lights still dim bad at only 4 ohm load... my voltage stays just above 13 even on a stupid hard note. Anyone heard of excessive amperage tho? they good?

Got 2 oddysy 1500 amp batts 1 foot beside the amp... lol. Stock Alty is 120 amp bosche Big 3 + added ground from engine block to batt (0 guage where possible) And when i cruise i got it bumping, absolutely no tones accept for setting gains although speakerboxxx intro is definately close to tones.

    BTL emergency!!! =[

By half gain you mean you set the gain on the amp to 1/2 way up? Or you set it to half of the proper setting that you measured? If you mean half way you were probably clipping the shiz outta that amp and sending that cruddy signal to the sub and killed it. 1/2 gain sounds overkill unless your RCA voltages are low (most decks these days put out WAY more then enough)

    Big Box, Big Dilemma.

So the time has come to finally make my box as work has slowed down and my carpenter (father) has some time to help me get a enclosure made for my pair of RE SX 15's. My major dilemma here is that the opening for the trunk limits the size of the box to be rather small compared to the trunk size unless i do one of two things... Option 1, Build the box in 2 halves then screw together inside the vehicle. Other then volume taken up for the small 2 inch border around both halfs of the box i plan to connect them with, what other problems could the pose for the sound of the box? I'm able to get like 12 cubes into this trunk if i am able two to part this box... Option 2, Build the box short so that the subs are both firing up, will be able to get roughly 9 cubes and will slide in like a dream with 6 inches of head room. The angle of the trunk limit box lengh but not width for install. Also, i plan on going about 3.5-4 cubes per SX AFTER port and speaker displacement tuned to 34 hz.... Anyone have some experience with these subs and can suggest a good size and tune for these speaker? If i use the short box it will be up firing, in a trunk isnt it loudest for me to port and face the subs toward the rear of the vehicle? Given information about the car.... Saturn L200 Trunk with fold down rear seats, opening behind seats roughly 32x12 inches. Im looking for a loud daily pounder, im looking for alot of output but dont want a sloppy farty one note wonder thats why i bought 2 RE SX 15s and a kicker 2500 to push it. Anyone with box design / building experience mind giving me some help, ide appreciate it alot.

    2 15's or one 18"

RE SX's go for under 300 on ebay... They can hold about 1500 or more daily.

    Charged 88 marquis.

For the requests from a few on my equpment posting to show it, heres a few shots of my marquis... Keep in mind its been in this tent shed for quite the while now. The messyness under the hood is just due to it being a test setup for the engine im building this year for the charger. Still runs great even though its a messy bish under the hood. The stripes were added earlier this year, the pics with out are a little less then a year old. Looks like brand new inside and out and underneath. No rust... Not bad for being in ontario canada. lol

    18" RE SX

The XXX also cost triple what the SX does... I beleive the SX is more comfortable with around 1500 RMS anyhow

    18" RE SX

my 15s i think are in the 27-29 ish range... its only a little bigger basket and cone weight.

Amp, wiring, subs, battery.... Their all here When i do start to do the build i will make a new topic in the build logs and go through the whole thing step by step. Until then --> PICS Refurb KX2500.1 (Birthsheet of 2830) Closeup of my Chameleon paint job on the end caps. My pair of RE SX 15's and my old sub amp AKA new front channel amp and CD components (going active after install complete) The Oddysey 1500 1/0 25 ft stinger, 2X 1/0 5ft Rockford Fosgate power/ground wire Snagged from the fleamarket for 50 bucks (radioactive wanted 300) Old Boston GS1500 subs (still sound absolutely amazing) Old VS New 2 year old install on my 550HP charged 88 grand marquis (stereo yanked, wanted better times)

hehe, to be honest it tucks JUST inside the fenders when i drop it to the floor... Those 295/50/15s just fit cause the offset isnt too big on those 10 inch wide rear rims. I keep it up high and stiff cause i love the way it drives, air shocks at 100 PSI to keep her ass in check. Car gets TOO floaty and scary with lower pressure. Forgot to mention i FMIC'd the charger setup... lol (i go overkill on everything)

Thanks, i had a mustang and when you are 6'3" 290 it just doesnt work... lol Surprisingly she only weighs in at 3600 lbs for a 4 door... go base models with the fuzzy plastic sheet instead of trunk carpet. haha

Ile hafto go into the garage tommorow for engine pics... Heres a couple more pics tho. Vortech v-1 SC trim with outlaw pulley running roughly 10-12 lbs of boost. Block bored .40 over with matching pistons, light port polish on the stock head. A9L cobra ECU, vortech FMU... New ford traction loc 8.8 rear end with 3.73 gears. AOD transmission. Cars quick, im building a new engine for this car either this or next year. I did all this work so far over the 2 past years by my self (except the rear end... too lazy) Im a mechanic apprentice, im 21 and this is my weekend warrior.
  16. Sure the main fuse is in? Sometimes the remote can supply enough power to turn the lights on but no power for actual amplification.
  17. OK... So here is my dilemma. Ive got 2 - 15inch SX series RE audio subs in my room at the moment. Im in need of an amp capable of producing ATLEAST 2000 rms (true power not rated) and made the sad mistake of purchasing the power acrapstik 5500D rated at a rediculous 3200RMS but im not even able to pull 1KW off it by the sounds of it. I guess ile eat the cost of the current amp but what do you guys think of the MA audio 4000D's? My old amp was a rackmount amp from MA and felt like it did near rated pushing my two bostons and i was fairly pleased with the clean output. So heres what it comes down too... Should i purchase for 450 shipped a refurbed 4000D rated at 4000RMS X 1 at 2ohm (17volts) or 2 - Hifonics amps or Spend a little more dough on the MASSIVE audio 3000.1 (about 600 shipped) Or perhaps even suggest some amplifiers for me in a reasonable price range. Thanks in advance, Chris McDonald

OKOK... i gave in. Proud owner of a factory refurb ZX2500.1D only cost me 500 canadian. Wewt.

    Amp search...

OK.... How do you all feel about the ZX1500.1 from kicker? I figure it will actually do around 16-1700 watts.... and i can snag one for 380 refurb to my door

    Amp search...

RMS on the SX's is 1000. And from what i understand its a bit of a understatement. What do you all think about MTX amps? Do they do rated?

    Amp search...

No thanks, i can get a KX 2500.1 off ebay for the same as those two used... and the 2500 is bnib with 2 years warrenty.

    Amp search...

I more then agree with that, im just wondering how much do i really need for my SX's to wang in my little saturn... hahaha. bad enough i had to fit a 7 cu ft after port displacement box into a small 4 door sedan. I simply dont have the cash for a 1000 dollar amp, and yes i know nothing good is cheap but even if that MA puts out a clean 2k ide be happy as a pig in chit at that cost. This chitty power acoustik cost me 350 after shipping because im an idiot and went by the fuse rating expecting this thing would put out atleast 2k rms but wont even wang one sub before it starts clipping. What do those Hifonics put down for ACTUAL power? And is the massive audio amp line decent? If so i do have that in the budget.

    Amp search...

Big 3 (0 guage) 200 AMP alt odyssey 1700 amp batt in the trunk red top under hood And like i said i trust MA cause ive had one amp from them that performed for me flawlessly for 2 years pounding away at a clean sounding set of boston generator 15's.

    Amp search...

Nah, my idle voltage is 14.9 volts. how much for the sundowns? I wanted to get the MA's cause i know it will put down 2500+RMS for sure at 2 ohm at 12 volts even and only cost me 400-450 shipped depending on which model i want. My only concern is voltage flux changing power given to the speakers causing them to blow... ive hear the SX's can handle a CLEAN 1500RMS daily wanging power but i dont truly know.
  25. Okay, from what ive read over the past few weeks ive decided that i want to go with an active frontstage. My DEH-7800MP is capable of this from what ive read. I plan on glassing the front doors to accept a well acoustically matched woofer and tweeter combo, i was hoping someone here could give me some suggestions on what woofer and tweeter to use so that i have little flatspots in my sound. Also for reference i hate harsh pingy tweeters, i don't particularly like all my highs to sound like crashing symbols! lol.... With switching to an active front stage this also means i will be completely losing my rear audio am i correct? Thats the only thing ive been confused about! Thanks in advance, Chris McDonald
