  1. I'm sure Steve could respond with his thoughts on the topology. what do you think about peaking it hard smallish ported higher tuned box. someone like me who runs MT's daily with 8k on tap shouldn't have any kinda low BL problems... I think smaller peaky boxes would work wonders for the idiots around here to sit in my car lol. I havn't seen you post on the Team site lately, whats up? Anyone even considering buying these wants output. so they should have power imo.

IIRC, Steve told me not to put more than 1500 into a 3hp 3" coil, LMT or not. But then again John doesn't recommend I run the MM4000.1's @ 1ohm bridged daily either lol.

  2. some of u guys seem to come here just to argue with one another...

my mother inlaw is a cop...

her good friend (cop) pulled me over for stereo knowing who I was in the middle of no where. No houses for MILES and was swearing and yelling I wanted to tell him stfu and give me a ticket...

he went crying to my mother inlaw on the phone and she told him to leave me alone. he's a mechanic and has worked on my car before. I turned it down like 200 yards away from him...

btw 18" SX's don't own MT's with 8krms on backup. nice try though. I guess you can own a few of these guys lol. :P just trying to be a part of the feather rufflers club ;) . seems I need to be more obscene with bad language/grammar/punctuation to be a part :P .

Just talk to them with big words, they'll get mad, feel stupid and leave you alone... The cops that is. Glorified security gaurds :P

    edit: sorry will resize avatar...

  3. la storms... ygpm if their 10" aluminum cone X2 I'll buy the cones from you :P I have some neo motors I cracked all the cones honeycomb. You'd think a 3k peak wattage sub would take 4krms daily :D . after imp rise and voltage drop from 30-60hz I get 4krms per sub :D . damn coils and cones aren't made to take that abuse...

  4. I know what the heck is his name? Dan Wiggans, of Adire, said one mm of box xmax can cancel out 10mm of sub xmax. double/triple the baffle. All sides of my two single 15" boxes are double. aeroports are glued and screwed too.

    vids man vids

  5. yeah, I read that before I posted the original thread. I got lost somewhere between PI and figuring tuning of the PR. But I'm getting an eD 8" the big one with the 3" coil and 1000rms made by TC with a PR and in .5ft^3 with his PR the guys box has an F3 of about 20hz with very flat response curve. SO I'll be buying the pair as an experiment for my low bass and output passive vs ported testing. I love how small a box can be and still tuned super low with PR's now I need to hear it and see how they are. I don't think it'll meter high or set of car alarms but it should pound out the lows lol. He said the only sub that he has that has better lows is a BP1803 which is an 18" HT sub motor looked like an HC/SP/beyond audio Inhuman type sub. 25mm topplate double 150oz magnets and flat backplate. later,

  6. sounds like a plan...

    and don't forget

    :ttiwwop:

    wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

Well, since I won't be getting either and I'm only researching at this point this thread may be worthless for some time lol. I'll drop some pix of my screens and dvd player when they're all install just for you though ;) damn pic junkies I tell ya... lol

But I actually posted this thread with the intent of learning more about PR's so any info I may gain would be appriciated. I know they have a steep rolloff and aren't transient so far. But you can tune low with huge crossarea in tiny boxes...

  7. I'm thinking of doing two boxes; each box containing dual Rl-i 8"s in between 1 and 1.3ft^3 with a 15" passive radiator tuned to about 30hz.

So 4 total with two boxes I'll be glassing it all, and I'll have either my colossus GenXX or maybe even something nicer cough Goliath cough. According to the new testing its doing less power than the colossus but gets more spl due to the name I suppose ;) . http://audioforum.termpro.com/ubb/ultimate...011444/p/3.html very intresting it's doing less power but but spl... So I'm thinking of trying something of that nature. I'm getting a pair of BD1500's soon I hope, so I'll test with those when I get the new truck. And *hopfully* 4 Rl-i 8"s :D

  8. 8 8"s done, just thought I'd put it here since this is where it was brought up. I'll link to the vids once they're done puttin them on the server at roe. I have some vids there under hawaiianbasshead two re 8"s and two eD 8"s drop in testing. eD's are louder without bottuming out. sound better too. the 8 of them flexed the box so I put a brace in you can see the box jumps too in the vid. weights about 140lbs too so they can wang a little. I think 4 RL-i 8"s would be similar in output. I'll meter it when I take the car out again. I did a 157.7 outlaw, doors open windows down on the dash playing music on my spl162 mic with my 18". so I'll have to see how this compares. doesn't seem as loud pretty close though. never miced my TC's but they were pretty loud too.

    post-396-1117329006_thumb.jpg

  9. box is done for the 8 8"s need to cutout the holes tomorrow and drive 2hrs to vid it with the spl190 mic so its more respectable. no new TL mics. I'm hoping to sell the eD's and get my truck then I'll throw my TC's in the truck. Then swap them with Rl-i 8"s and see if they have the same low bass peaks and if they do I'll add two more and run 4 8"s. truck will be 05 titan crew cab on 35 14.5 SSR's rims not yet decided. Amp, I'm hoping to use my gen XX colossus thats in my car.

I took that pic at night, so you can't tell but its 3'ish and goes across the entire back seat about wall to wall damn near impossible to put the endcaps one. can't fit a screw driver on the side even with the seat down lol.

  10. eD 9kv2's are about identical to ID8v3 they're made for eD by ID. They have very similar specs. I'd say since I have 2 tc2+ 8"s and 10 eD 8"s the tc definetly has more output and lowend extension. It isn't as flat of a response. but I love the peakiness I could get from the TC's on very low bass. I can't get that from the eD's partially why I need eight of them in one box lol, other part is I compete and like it loud. I beat a couple guys with soloX's with my MT so I'm hoping I can do the same with 8 8"s in a more efficient box with less power. I'll know next week. The ID needs ported imo to get low bass or loud really. depends what you consider loud but I ran 4 sealed and didn't like output at all. of coarse I could've lit them on fire with my colossus to see exactly how much power they like sealed but isn't really worth it imo to ship them back and pay for recones.

blah blah blah RL-i 8" all the way :woot:

  11. hopefully there are numbers to follow on the snailshell. I don't recall seeing numbers from the pair of a-bahn 6"s that dropped pretty low. I noticed while watching it with a friend it seems as though it could just about always be talked over. I know none of my setups smallest being a single 8" Tc2+ ported similar to the Rl-i8 I'd assume could be talked over. You'd have to yell during breaks between notes and vocals :P . I've seen some other vids of snailshells like the one with the Treo SSX 12"s that didn't look too impressive either. But then again I wasn't too impressed with the CRX running a soloX 18" off two viper 2500d's that I beat at the last comp. He didn't have low lows and mine was tuned almost 10hz higher. I had alot more lows, didn't sound too good either lol. But I suppose a soloX off around 5krms isn't going to sound to good full tilt. But I'd also assume an MT 18" off a colossus wouldn't sound too great either. Not that I'm worried about sq much just don't like farty sounding bass lol.

I'd personally rather try the WO 4th order than a SS.

  12. I think the meet should be in Hi under the sun at the beach.

    [...]

I recommended myself mike does that count for $20 off plus the savings of getting two :D lol.

Only if you put me up in your Hawaiian home for a week! ;)

A meet in Hawaii, man that would be the ticket though..

I'd probably get held up at airport security once they see all the huge metal beasts I'm tryin' to take o'er there :lol2:

Put u up for a week. well I can put up with you for a little longer than that if I can save on shipping cause you'll bring two for me. wonder how much them tickets will be costin in a couple months, thats when they'll be available right? Or next week if you want to bring a proto. I have a lost closet. But nothings ever found once donated to the lost closet need mobass foundation. man clean clear LOUD bass. I've never heard such a thing. Seriously, closest I've heard was Bran's Rl-i 12"s sealed and my 8"s. I like Tc stuff, too bad stevo's gone.

Oh yeah, I have 8 4" aeroports waiting too. so we can tune low in a huge box and see what happens when we play the speakerboxx intro at full tilt lmao. Colossus is 2ohm mono stable 3200rms rated I had mine tested to do very close to the ratings a little more that 3200 but who's counting after 3krms lol.

Well if you ever decide to come email me. Our couch is a fold out bed! Blankets are in the hall closet. And the liquer cabinet is alwas full.

  13. I think the meet should be in Hi under the sun at the beach. I can get together a micing with some guys with solox's w7's and anything else to compare spl and sq for the sheer joy of it. If not maybe I'll get a pair for the joy when they come out. I recommended myself mike does that count for $20 off plus the savings of getting two :D lol.

  14. its between this and the AV15 right now for me. depending on price. id be in for a 1ohm stable version (dvc2 pwease?)

    maybe 2ohm... i got 1100@1 and 800@2

and sealed would be best. but i can *try* to fit ported :P

please shoot us a balpark price and mabe a sneek shot of the sub. and can you take a physical picture of the special 'coil winding'? id like to see how it differes from a regular coil. like a side-by-side shot?

maybe you missed all the posts about them being svc to use LMT technology :bartmoon:

3hp motor, 35mm xmax, storm type basket. hm $500ea give or take $100 would be my best guess on a price per 15" just a guess though.

roll out them tc 2+ 8"s too here's a pic for the guys who're waiting on them. make those use lmt too lol. thats a tc 2+ 8" made for low bass and tons of it ported :)

  15. well, with 150ea my Orions get buried by my single MT 18" running off a colossus Gen XX. If I had to rate them I'd say upper low end or lower mid level, not too great. I guess they have nice bass, I can't think of too much special about them. I paid $265 for mine at a local shop. though :( , for $160 they are pretty dayum nice...

  16. gonna cost a few samoleons for 2 90* elbows

    around the neighbourhood of $20

also going to affect sq and spl having a bend in the pipe either way you bend it. why don't you like precision ports? I like them better than RF/LA aeroports B)

why no 48hz tune :P I tuned a box to 55hz with two 4" aeroports so I could get the port area lol. My box in the car now is tuned to 42hz. Gets low enuff to set off car alarms at 100ft there's an MT 18" in there and I know SE should peak lower. 2ft^3 sounds smallish too. My port is about 1ft^3 lol I have over $200 in aeroports just sitting and I'm using a slot port since I could get more length on the slot. so more area still tuned decently low 42hz ain't too bad lol. you can do trick to slot ports to have them sound nice too. round them and split pvc in half and screw it to the end like an aeroport...

My other box has 4 4" aeroports tuned to 28hz, that one just keeps poping out/cracking aeroports lmao. Doesn't get too much lower than the 42hz box either. But then again my subs fs is around 50hz and I listen to music not 25hz tones. Listen to some 30hz tones at about the volume you listen to low bass music and see if it drops that low. Chances are the music isn't dropping as low as you think ie 25hz unless your talking bass mekanik or some other bass type music. I listen to late nite tip, lil scrappy and actually did a 149.3 on the spl190 playing bass mekanik quad maximus track 07, without hearing any problems with the sub in 6.23ft^3 with 106in^2 port tuned to 42hz. But I also played it full tilt freeair off the colossus with no probs so the MT might have a wider playing field so to speak.

I think the SE will sound good tuned to higher 30's probably I like to think of it as I'm only tuned 7hz away from 35hz lol. seriously though it drops lower that I thought it would. peaks nice too up higher where I like to mic it, closer to the res freq of the car.

it'll be louder with a larger box and more port for the low bass though. imo best of luck whatever you come up with :)

  17. your last option could be get them done with paper and foam. Then offer an upgrade for people who can recone them on their own, for set amount of $$ if they want or they can keep it foam and paper.

btw, I'm the one who emailed you about getting a 12" RL-i recone kit for one of my custom tc2+ 8"s which looks alot like ur RL-i8 proto.

If the RL-i comes out like mine. It'll drop hella alow get stupid loud for its size and sound good to boot in 2.25ft^3 a pair off a bd1000 :ready2go: , w7 who? I shut D a guy with 2 10 dubs on sheer volume with rap but, I do decent installs for loud imo. He just had two in an Ho box with some JL amp. I just won 1st at the soundoff on saturday as a matter of fact lol sorry had to brag. 149.3 spl190 mic legal on dash playing musical material at the levels I listen to it comfortably. That was with an RE MT 18" and GenXX colossus though, not two 8"s lol. I actually tied a CRX with a soloX and two viper 2500d's but we let the crowd decide and pounded with the cars open playing rap and they said mine was cleaner dropped lower and had more pressure hitting them.

but enuff about that! Bring the 8"s with foam and paper. I'm sure if a few more people recone their own subs the world will be a better place :D

  18. I hate that choice of mail it blows worse than dead subs still playing in peoples trunks across the world. It takes so long first I think I got jacked, then I forget and when it finally arrives I'm like what the heck is this...oh crap I remember now I bought this last year off ebay...son of a bee, he really did send it. oops should'nt of sent him those turds in the snail mail back lol

    sorry got me excited.

  19. sure I'll find them and pm them to you. I know efficiency is worse than anything I've ever seen. 78dB I think But with a pair in a 2.25ft^3 boxed with a 4" aeroport tuned to 29hz they spank off a bd1000.

I'm looking to get a DD M2 amp when they're availble, the M1's are selling and shipping now. They do 1400rms 1.3ohm 12v 1700 1.3ohm 14v these aren't ratings but a little under what the birthsheets were. Its rated 600rms 1ohm don't remember voltage, but I figure the M2 will be double that. I have all types of amps mostly class d. But these should be fun, people are saying the M2 will be the loudest street amp, louder than the Zapco 9.0. Since I don't run hundreds of batts with huge alts I'll probably do alot better than ever with this amp. Its also strappable and has onboard clipping indicators.

anywho are you gonna do a preorder on these 8"s? I was thinking of starting my own thing but with the RE, Si the W7 and so many others there's no need for tc built 8"s imo. I like the design very much on yours. It drops low enough to set off car alarms and goes high enuff to be used in two ways. I need four, one in each front door one in each kick. :) dude get them out seriously. If you can set off alarms with one. I think they are sweet. I wonder how the XXX comps are they use xbl^2 but cost an arm and leg those must displace mucho air too :) . But I think yours will be great. I've never used Si's only because shipping to Hi is expensive like $100 per 40lbs so a Mag 15" would be $450ish. I paid $160 shipping on my Mt 18" that kinda sucks I've paid over $1,000 shipping sounds here in the past two years.

obviously I'm rambling so I'll just be out lol. Later man,

    T

  20. try third beefiest Tcsounds made 8" toour knowledge. Not best of anything. Loud 8" yes sounds good thats subjectional. But beefy tc sub :boxin: I currently have two of these. Getting recone for the one I ripped the surround on and I'm thinking of reconing both to higher profile surround/lighter cone to keep moving mass as close to the same as possible then maybe change spider(s) to conter the new surround to keep it ideal for ported only like it is now

    post-7-1089445244_thumb.jpg

  21. They were designed by Steve but they weren't made by him  . Some of their assembly people assembled them is what he said. Tonally balanced is hard on an 8" for lower freq's but I want to know when I can get some :) . I'm aware of the weight and dampning effects and even freq response. Can there be no smaller surround to allow more displacment with the same characs? Obvioulsy I'm a noise junky. Hm thats ok he says it sets off alarms. I need a pair like yesterday. When will they be on the site? I'll take four j/k just two for now would be fine. :) I think both the Jl and these are good. As will be the Si's. Maybe there will be some higher end 8"s later to compete with the JL and others :) I'm sure these are WAY more efficient then my pair. The RE's are nice but kinda cheap no pun intended lol. I use those in the wife's car until I swap them with DD's these or whatever happens to be the next new 8"s 4.5" deep or less. I shouldn't second guess the surround I'm sure but its just my cones are small enough lol smaller is scarier lol. Later,

    T
