  1. Relax

We've had some people out sick most of the week and I've had zero time to do any office work including email, messages etc. I've been focusing all of my energy on getting things built and shipped.

Our shipment of baskets is stuck in customs and I do not have a date when it will be released as of today. These are one of the few parts that we do import and have zero control over customs as to how they have to inspect things and clear it. They were delayed in being made, and delayed in being shipped out, now they are delayed and hung in customs.

We'll be contacting everybody today who is being effected by the delay on their order.

  2. I had this same setup and amp on a bl18 with out issue. I think I may try and trade the basket plus cash for some other 18. My f*** up with the settings but something catches on fire I don't feel like it should happen. and a recone that take just as long to get as another sub I'm just not terribly happy with fi right now.

    Or myself for that matter.

We can work you a deal on a recone, I emailed you earlier explaining that we have no extra cones right now until we hear from our vendor as to when they will be arriving. I also said I would let you know when I know.

Odds are we can come up with a recone kit for you, I just have to have a date so I can tell you when.

It's not a warranty situation nor is it our fault, we don't want you to be mad by any means, but whoever set the amplifier up had absolutely no idea what they were doing.

If that amp was set up on a BL like that, you were extremely lucky you didn't burn it up as well.

Regardless of what speaker you put in there..if you put it in there with that set up how it is right now you're going to have similar results. Speakers are stupid, they do what you tell them to do in the environment that you place them in.

You can't go do a car dealer, buy a new car, wrap it around a telephone pole, and expect the dealer to say 'oh sorry that pole jumped out infront of you, here is a brand new car on our dime'. There would be no car dealerships - which is why you have insurance companies that you pay premiums for every month to protect you from something happening. Sadly, there are no speaker insurance companies..if there were they would be out of business quickly :).

  3.  but further then that .. i have never ever in my life seen one line of subwoofer in flames as much as i have the SP4 .. this is wild.

funny.. i love FI but god damn this is alot of " user error "  tell me why dont we see the BTL the BL the Q or the SSD the Zcon the X G i cons bursting into flames ?

8 subs flaming out of ~1300 is a lot?

    .65318%?

6 of them flamed on sundown 3000/3500, 1 on an american bass amp which was the start of this thread, now 1 on a zx 2500.

Every single install has had bass boost on, or has set things up wrong and over driven the amplifier...1292 subs out there with no issues..

People burn the tinsel leads completely up on the other subs and catch them on fire as well, same issues. When they recone and dial things in right..nothing is ever heard of them again.

You can't fix a loose nut behind a knob.

  4. long as it hasn't been built yet it shouldn't be a problem

you aren't at 15 business days yet, really close.

make sure you email sales with your order number and i'll make sure it's changed in the morning when i get to the shop

  5. Severe over driving and inductive heating.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the tinsel leads or the sub period.

If there was something wrong with it every single one would have failed. There are thousands of them out there with no issues.

Speakers are stupid..they do what you tell them to do in the environment you place them in. They do not spontaneously combust.

Is this the same logic you used for the first part of your statement?

I'd be willing to accept the argument of severe over-driving (to one side of the suspension) if the OP was running an NS1 or a Brazilian smoke machine. Granted I don't know for a fact that the OP wasn't running a bigger amp, but assuming he was running a Sundown 3k on a 3k rated woofer, shouldn't Severe over-driving of the suspension be the least of his worries?

If you burn any speaker up...regardless if it is a walmart or craiglist special it is because the loose nut behind the controls applied too much power to it in one form or another, or there was something else going on with the inductive heating.

The Korean amps ramp the switching frequency of the mosfets up sky high so they can save 4 parts on the board and they do not filter any of this high frequency noise out.

That noise goes into the tinsel leads on the speaker and causes them to glow.

The vast majority of the time the speakers are wired in series or parallel which will always yield 1 tinsel lead frying on one side of the sub..unless it holds on long enough to bang the other tinsel lead on the other side, which occasionally does happen.

If people can run in excess of 8000 watts to that exact same tinsel lead setup all day every day with zero problems there is something wrong somewhere else. Watts is heat energy, if things are set up properly a 3000 watt amplifier should NEVER be able to produce the heat that 8000 watts worth of mulitple amplifiers does.

  7. So if I have SP4 coils in my subs will that make them perform different than standard BL's?

Nope, the coil would be off-set north to keep the turns in the gap height correct.

  8. I have been wondering about my 12 inch BL subs the last few weeks. I got them re-coned about 6 months ago and I have the fully loaded BL's with 4 inch coils. I am wondering if the 4 inch coils were no longer available since last year what was used for my re-cones? SP4 coils? Nick can you chime in?

We can still recone them..but we just did a very short run of them for test marketing purposes of the sp4.
