Is something wrong with my XCON?

Truck has been under the knife and the sub issue was on the back burner. I think i know why there is a rattle type noise, looks like my foam surround is coming apart from the cone. Guess ill be looking at a recone or surround kit to fix it
  2. I have a single 10" xcon in a box i built under the seat of my crewcab dodge pickup, powered by a black ice 1300w D block run at 1ohm. I get decent bass out of it, but if i try to crank it up some i get a rattling sound from the woofer cone area. This is not with all my gain and bass knobs/levels maxed out either. Maybe im expecting to much from a 10? Just seems odd my 1300w amp is maxing out an xcon when not even cranked at full tilt. Ill post a video tomorrow so yall can see. Im no audio expert and dont have an audio shop around that hasnt tried blowing smoke up my a**.

Is something wrong with my XCON?

Sorry guys i got caught up working on the truck and putting a new headunit in. Pioneer DEH-X6600BT. Its late so i couldnt crank it up, but for some reason or another the bass sounds a lot better/cleaner. Maybe my old HU had an issue, ill post back results tmrw before i start trouble shooting. The New Kicker Comp R

I know i just started another thread where within i asked about these, but figured a new thread would get more light on the subject especially since there seems to be no reviews on these yet.. I local shop has been installing these mostly in a 10" for smaller space systems like mine. Says they are pretty awesome, and blow the rockford p3's i was looking at clean away given my type of setup. He was explaining to me this new line is from a new sound engineer(?) kicker hired not to long ago to turn their line around to a better quality sub than their recent models. Could be BS for all i know. But this guy does have a huge wall FULL of big a** trophies and records, i believe he even mentioned something about a world record IIRC. Been in business for a long time here, sells kicker, JL, rockford, DD, etc. so it seems like he would have solid advice. He was suggesting i get two 4ohm comp R 10's, the cx1200.1 amp, switch the subs to 1ohm and wire them in series for a 2ohm load at the amp. They feature 600w rms, 1200 max, ideal for .8cuft sealed boxes, and feature a selectable resistance. The 2ohm model can be changd from 2 to 8ohms, and the 4ohm model can be changed from 4 to 1ohm. They suggested driving these subs to their full potential with the newer Kicker cx1200.1 amp. They can be picked up for $130 online or at Best Buy, and most shops sell them for $160. Anyone have experience with these new subs? Ever heard them in person? Is there really a new designer hored on at kicker changing things up? To good to be true? Heres a link to the sub http://www.kicker.com/CompR Link to the Amp he suggested http://www.kicker.com/CX_Amplifiers

    Howdy From Lubbock

Happened to stumble across this board in my search for a set of subs and an amp for my pickup. Got my truck runnin at 700hp but it has no bass! Cant be having that... I plan to build a fiberglass sealed box under the rear seat of my 2003 4 door dodge 2500. It should net me at least 1.75ft3, so most likely looking at .75ft3+ per sub box. Being in my twenties i listen to rock, rap, hip hop, country, classic rock. Im just looking for decently hard hitting bass when i want to crank it up. Not looking for top of the line sound/equipment that will cost an arm and a leg. Looking to spend no more than $300 or so on two 10's, plus an affordable amp that will push the subs to their full. Ive been to pretty much every shop here in Lubbock, the one place willing to walk me thoroughly through everything they do and sell was highly suggesting the new Kicker Comp R subs, said they have built many tight quarter setups using these new subs and they sounded awesome. Like i said i dont have much audio brand knowledge, so any help or suggestions in the meantime ategreatly appreciated! Thanks

    Dodge Crew Cab System- Suggestions?

I've been reading today, looks like the older Alpine head units like mine usually can benefit from a line driver in terms of amount of bass produces. Ill have to check up on my HU, maybe give a line driver a shot unless someone has useful suggestions?? Edit: looks like my preamp outs are 4v
  8. Im putting a system in my 2003 QC dodge pickup. Im putting in a 10" XCON and a Black Ice 1300.1 Amp which measures in at 16x8.25x2. I plan to raise the back seat a little over an inch with steel square tubing i have. I have 3/4" MDF, lifetime supply of 2oz cloth, liquid nail wood glue, and all of the odds and ends i need to build the setup, but im stuck on how i should shape the box/place the amp. I originally planned to do a setup just like this, until today when i remembered i had a split bench rear seat! And my rear seat..

    Dodge Crew Cab System- Suggestions?

I also am very displeased right now, maybe its my head unit but idk so i need some help here. I have an Alpine cda-7894 (upgrading soon) head unti. There are red/white "sub w." outputs on it, i have the amp plugged into these. The sub is wired to 1ohm, checked with meter, and the power and ground are 2 gauge wire. On the head unit i have the subwoofer on, but i have to turn the sub w. bass to max, stereo bass to max, and the amps remote control knob, level, and bass boost to max in order to get anything halfway decent out of it. With everything at max, i still have to crank up the stereo to get some real bass. So im guessing the headunit just isnt putting out a strong enough signal to the amp until i crank up the volume?

    Dodge Crew Cab System- Suggestions?

I had to mount the sub on the third layer to fit the huge a** magnet in the box. Oh well. I raised both rear seats about 1". How thick do most of you guys do your fiberglass? I feel like i might need a little more, i have a hair over 1/8" thick.

Contemplating mounting my amp on the ceiling/headliner, i really dont like the layout under the seat

    Dodge Crew Cab System- Suggestions?

Oh, did you let it rest at an angle or shim the rear up to make it level? And this is what the setup would look like so far, im not real keen of the layout but idk whatelse i could do with the amp, its purdy so i dont want to tuck it away

Was the seat raised in that picture? And is that 3/4 or 5/8?

    Dodge Crew Cab System- Suggestions?

You can see the mount of the two seats in the third picture. As of right now i plan on just notching around them, and have the amp positioned off center toward the passenger side due to clearance issues with that same seat mount. I also plan to add a SECOND sub and amp down the road, so i was going to build it where they drop right in one day. So any other ideas?

I need a D2 so I can run 1ohm at the amp, especially since this will be a single sub setup. Let me know what you have, it will need to be shipped to 79424. After this week ill have more of an idea of what budget the price has to be within. 985-7six8-816three. Thanks

    The New Kicker Comp R

My other SSA Zcon 12" D2

Man if only i had more cash at the moment.. I only have around $350 to spend since i just bought an amp
  23. I have a 2003 dodge ram im looking to put a setup in under the back seat. I will be building a fiberglass sealed box conformed to the underseat area shape. It will net me a minimum of 1.75ft3. Im just looking for hard hitting bass, no top of the line setup. Budget for the subs is around $300+-, i would imagine 2 10's would probably be my best route? I just went around to all the shops here in town for different opinions. I know Kicker is normally frowned upon, but a few places suggested the new Comp R 10's and a cx1200.1. I cant seem to find much info on the new subs, i was told these new subs are from a better sound engineer kicker hired recently but it could be BS for all i know. So what subs and amp would you folks suggest given the airspace i have and being under a back seat? Im still searching around, but being inexperienced in audio is making some of the information a bit overwhelming to take in and remember.
  24. Plus that PPI looks slick!!
  25. Gonna buy a single 10" or 12" X or Icon, which ever pops up in the classifieds first. Will be in a .8-9 cuft fiberglass box sealed, polyfilled 1-2lb iirc. This is an under seat setup for a 4 door dodge pickup. I've seen the black ice has been proving a decent amp for the money. Just want to get any last opinions or reasons to not get it and go with something else. I don't want to spend more than $200-250 on an amp at the moment. Thanks!
