Anyone else getting PMd by this guy?

I've received two PMs just today from this "cupid stunt" guy telling me to visit another website. Spambot or just some a**hole?

I'm not really active on the forum, so when I received a PM I was like "...what the hell is this?" and thought it was really fishy. Just glad to see his butt get canned.

    Does it actually work?

Use the stuff and it works. Did an awesome job on cleaning up the EGR, IAC, and FITV valve on my Accord. Almost one of those unbelievable fix-alls in a can.

    spectrum?

Spectrum will work fine, just that you need to apply it as thick as the vibrations mats (2mm+) to see equally good results. I see way too many people apply it too thin and then turn around complain. With that said, two gallons, possibly three for proper thickness.

    Second Skin Luxury Liner Pro

After completing my sound deadening venture about two years ago I still wanted my car quieter. Less exhaust, less road noise, and just an overall quieter interior. So I set out in search of what to use and basically found three products, Second Skin's Luxury Liner, Vertex Mobile Sound Products' Vertex Barrier, and Cascade Audio's VB-4. I started looking at the specs and comparing them. Both Luxury Liner and Vertex Barrier measured the same thickness and weight (0.375" thick, 1lb. per sq. ft.), while the VB-4 weighed the same as the other two but was thinner measuring in at 0.250" thick. All three are of similar construction, a thick vinyl mass barrier with a thicker decoupling foam layer. Price wise is where the differences started to show. Cascade Audio's VB-4 varied in price a lot, the cheapest I could find it for was $113.72 shipped for 13.9 sq. ft.. That's $8.18 a sq. ft., making it the most expensive of the three. Then came the Vertex Barrier at $95.00 shipped for 13.5 sq. ft. ($7.04 a sq. ft.) and finally Luxury Liner with the smallest price tag at $41.50 shipped for 9 sq. ft. ($4.61 a sq. ft.). Even if I bought two sheets of Luxury Liner to have close to the same amount of square footage as the other two (actually I'd have 3-4 sq. ft. more at 18 sq. ft. total) the price only came to $75.04 (thats only $4.16 a sq. ft.!). That alone really helped me out on which one to go for, especially when you're on a budget like me and you need to get the best bang for your buck. Shortly after looking at those three products I contacted Anthony at Second Skin to ask a question (can't remember what it was) and he brought my attention to a new product he just released, Luxury Liner Pro. Not only that, he was more then gracious enough to send me a sheet to see if it would fit my needs and all I can say is WOW. Picture of Luxury Liner Pro When I got the package and pulled it out of the box, I remember the first thing I said, "... this is some heavy SH*T!" and quickly realized how serious this product is. Pro means PRO and that is exactly what you get with this product, professional grade through and through. Being the type of person that I am, I of course pulled out my calipers and other measuring tools (scales, etc.) to see if it stacks up to what is claimed on the website and sure enough it did! On the website it's published thickness is 0.375" and that was the thinnest reading I got, the average was around 0.390", so I definitely don't feel ripped off. And the sheer weight of the stuff is just astonishing. Tipping the scales at just a bit over 10 pounds for 9 sq. ft. puts it at 1.12-1.14lbs per sq. ft.. That is one heavy barrier! The foam of Luxury Liner Pro is definitely something to be noted. It is a dense closed cell foam, yet it easily conforms to curves and compresses very well so it can be shoved into some tight areas. This is really great if you have a layer or two of a sound deadening mat already installed or if you are worried about trim pieces, your carpet, or anything else not fitting right after you install it. Also with it being constructed from a closed cell foam, this allows it to be installed in areas that you would never install an open celled product such as in your doors or any other area that sees high amounts of moisture. Sample of regular Luxury Liner on top of Luxury Liner Pro. Notice the difference between the foams. I then took the sheet of Luxury Liner Pro and just tossed it in my trunk right above the exhaust just to see if that alone would make a difference, I didn't even bother gluing it down, and sure enough it made a difference! It was enough of a difference my sister and mom both noticed, and you know how women are about noisy things... Now the kicker, price. $51.92 shipped for 9 sq. ft., thats $5.77 a sq. ft.! That is cheaper then any other noise barrier out there (next to regular Luxury Liner)! Luxury Liner Pro delivers nothing less of professional results. Unsurpassed quality, outstanding results, and all for a small price tag! If you are looking for that luxury car silence, this is the product for you! And don't just take my word for it, take a look at the product yourself, you will not be disappointed!

USB hard drive that works with HUs

Yeah I was trying to figure out a way to cushion and suspend the HDD so that it wasn't going to take a beating on our crappy roads around here. So thanks again for the suggestion guys, saved me a whole hell of a lot of time messing with a hard drive.
  9. I just installed my new HU, it's a Pioneer DEH-P690UB (not the best in the world, but it gets the job done). It has a usb connection to hook up your iPod and other usb mass storage devices. My question is what brand/make of HDD works? I've already tried a few and they are a no go. Reason is I think they are requiring more juice then the usb cable can provide. So if anyone can point me in the right direction and stop me from wasting more time and money trying out different usb hard drives I'd really appreciate it.

    I be new here!

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jon, but most people know me as Froot Loops. I came over here by way of DIYMA and I've been on Second Skin Audio's forum for quite a while now and thought I'd borden my world and venture forth. Anyways I look forward to staying here for a while and offering my two cents, obtaining some new information and knowledge, and of course having some fun. Later,

Yeah the more I thought about it, the less I wanted a HDD because I would then need to make a place for it to sit.

It's not that I need all of my music in my car at any given time, it's just that I want the possibility of having all of them. But yes, I just went ahead and ordered a 16 gig thumb drive.

How do you discard of old subwoofer boxes?

I don't live in California, therefor it doesn't effect me... *cough* *hack*... yep doesn't effect me!

Yeah and it doesn't cost $30 to ship it. Case in point, I shipped off 40 sq. ft. of Damplifier Pro that weighed in at a bit over 30 lbs cross country via DHL Ground and they charged me $8.75

True... I'd say a gig or two is music I hardly ever listen to. That and 8 gigs run about $20-$25 or less and that fits my price range perfectly.

How do you discard of old subwoofer boxes?

That is pretty awesome. Typically I just dismantle them and use the "good" pieces for other crap around the house.

Question about spare tire wheel well install

I'm looking for options for sub placement so I can keep as much of my trunk as possible (because I haul a ton of sh*t). My spare tire well hasn't been used since I did my deadening and to me it's just wasted space. My question is how do spare tire well installs sound? I've seen tons of them, but never heard one in person. Any other options so that I can retain as much trunk space as possible? And FYI, I'm planning on a simple 10" or 12", nothing too crazy.

USB hard drive that works with HUs

I have a bit over 10 gigs of music, so I'd need a 16. Follow up question, would seek time be slower then a HDD? - Flash memory is faster than HDD storage (for reads). - IDE/SATA/SCSI is faster than USB. So, assuming both drives are on a USB bus (based on the original post scenario), the thumb drive should have faster seek times. Thumb drive it is!

    New box for my RL-i8s

IMO, I think it depends on if you are carpeting, vinyling (if that is even a word), or painting. If you're going to carpet, I'd leave it square. If your going to vinyl, I'd round it over. If painting, either way.

Question about spare tire wheel well install

I just got finished looking at the pictures and crap man that really sucks. If I didn't need my trunk space I would love to go all out, BUT like I said I haul a ton of stuff all over the place and need my precious trunk.
