High quality headphones on the cheap

Popped over to headfi And those gmp cans are very well recommended for good clean sound and maximum isolation. Also very durable and portable. 35 ohm is good too since you don't wish to amp. The only real competition in your price range are the akg550 and the athm50. You have chosen well as far as I'm concerned. I have just ordered a pair for myself, just because I collect cans and I love to compare them. On a side. If you ever want to be amazed by cheap headphones, check the superlux 681 and mono price 8320. I keep 8320s in my to go bag. 17 bucks shipped with extra flanges to fit me big ear holes and they sound awesome. The 681 can go for 40-60. Great sound that doesn't hurt me if I lose them or break them or give them away.

High quality headphones on the cheap

He could get hd650s for less than 500. Sennheiser are the most comfortable headphones about. Berdynamic makes several good sets in the 2-400 range. Athm50 are around 100 bucks and there is very little at that price range that competes, especially in closed back cans. Takstar hi2050 sound very nice, 70 bucks. Check out superlux hd681 for 60 too. Monoprice has some very cheap ear buds that sound better than 300 dollar buds. The fit is a bit funky though. I would suggest budgeting in a fiio headphone amp. Most mid range headphones NEED a good amp or they just won't perform. Also, are you a bass head or do you like flat response? If you're sensitive to highs I'd skip anything grado. Grado has the very best sound for classic rock. I have sr325i and I just love putting my Zeppelin vinyls through those cans. Akg 701s sound very good too. If you want a very bass heavy can, the vmoda cross fade LPs are good after a good break in. They really shine eq'd and amplified, overall too boomy for me except when I'm feeling the dub step urge. I have every pair mentioned plus about 40 more. The sennheiser hd650 are my favorites, hands down. 400 is the cap on headphones unless you want to start forking tons of cash into lossless recordings and amps and players and eqs. Fiio e11 I think its called and a set of hd650 or athm50 or even the akg 701 or 550(closed back)should run ya less than 500 and blow your mind to boot. Now the akg headphones all take a long break in... like 100 hours, but they do sound great. They just aren't as comfortable as the sennheiser cans. Senn. Makes some closed back cans too but I have never used any of them but I hear the momentum cans are very good. Much better amped but fine without. Beyerdynamic DT 880 and 990 are both very clear and flat. 990 range is better. Both sets are rather heavy for long sessions. Takstar hi2050 sound very close to the 880 but feel better on the head. They need amplification. Audio technica athm50 are my best portable cans. Sparkly highs and good bass but not boomy. Also have some at700 open back cans and they are on par with the akg701 but have better low end range. The athm50 do well without amplification, but the 700s need it. Sennheiser has my heart. My hd650s are the most comfortable, best sounding cans I have, nothing produces more accurate and clean bass, sparkly highs and clear mids. Not a bass heavy phone, but the bass is certainly there. They can work without amplification, but with it, they are unbelievable. The akg 550 and athm50 are the only sealed headphones I consistently use. Also, fiio used to make a dac amp that hooked straight to an iPhone through the media port. Edit. The fiio DAC doesn't work with the new 8 pin docking port iphones like the 5s. The line in amps work with any 3.5 mm analogue input.

    customer service.

They told me one thing and did another. I am in a bit of a situation to dislike as it is. I ordered a driveshaft for my mustang about a month ago and the FedEx delivery guy chucked it at my door so hard he dented the door. My mother sent me some sweets by FedEx last year and that delivery guy pitched the box at my porch and missed, the corner of the porch hit the side of the box and broke containers on the inside, spilling a container of caramel sauce all over the other items in the box. Perhaps they can do well, but have just not done so by me. Edit: it isn't my intent to anger others or bring negativity towards fi. My beef comes from the actions of a hand full of FedEx employs who did not act professionally, perhaps even the same one multiple times. Never caught the face of the driver. Its hard not to have a biased opinion when you're in such a position.

    customer service.

While Fi has great customer service, I must say FedEx does not. They had a 3 day delay due to weather. When I called to enquire as to when my package might arrive, every customer rep I spoke with told me it would be out for delivery tomorrow, tomorrow, then tomorrow, then today, as that facility is delivering on Saturday. Then when call today to see if today might be the day they finally catch up, they tell me that facility in fact does not deliver on saturday. Now this shipping company has lied to me 4 times. Bad business. If ever I get the chance, I will skip FedEx and ship via another service, even if it costs me more. I harbor no hard feelings for Fi, they have done me very well so far and this failure falls cleanly on FedEx.

    Another Happy Customer from Fi!

Wow nice turnaround time. Congratulations! Hope you love it! Ordered mine on the 18th. Wonder if that means mine is coming soon?

    customer service.

I've ordered a lot of equipment from many various companies and never experienced such concise, respectful, and businesslike as Fi gives.I made several mistakes when creating my online account and ordering and they fixed all they could, next business day... astounding! Can't wait on my sp4 to come in... if the same work ethic goes into the making of my product that goes into customer service, I expect I will be more than pleased.

Alright, here goes the first update. I've upgraded to a quality power 200 amp alternator, built for a slk320. 1/0 power and grounds to block and battery. Run 1/0 cables to the rear of the car. Ended up buying a box from a friend who builds fantastic labyrinth ported boxes. Built it to fit in the rear opening. Gives 3.6 cubic feet after port. Tuned to 31 hz. Ended up going for a fi sub, sp4 15. Also had a free amp dropped in my lap by that same friend. Some hifonics 2400.1d, supposedly CEA certified. We will see. Still sold on the crescendo 2500 and may still buy it. Sub ordered Nov 18. Expect it in around xmas. Pics incoming over the next few weeks.

In a couple cities in OK, the law is 500.00 first offense, they cut your cones out, second offense.

too little power on your subs?

I've seen it happen, especially with cheaper amps. Some of them start giving crazy voltages when pushed too far. Couple that with a speaker not moving the way it was designed to move. You could run into serious cooling issues.

Not a srt. That would be a waste of horsepower.

Okay, alternator problem solved. I found a company called quality power that builds 200 amp alternators for the mercedes slk320. Their customer service was great, they returned my call within an hour. This guy tells me they test the alternator at ~125 amps idle 200-220 amps at 2500 engine rpms. Their build matches the delco factory alt, and as such fits a crossfire with the 3.2. I don't know if the supercharged 3.2 uses the same alt. This with my 2 xs power batteries oughtta help push the crescendo bc2000d nicely. Still haven't purchased a woofer. I want the 18 bad, but I might settle for the 15. I have the one box built, but I'm leery of building a box into the car. I could get far more air space that way. Its just an undertaking that might push me beyond my skill level. MDF is cheap. I can always build another.

Ah. Speaker box comes out. Barely. Will have to put the sub in it after I put the box in. Found an alternator for a slk320 200 amp and a universal 220 amp made by powerbastards. I might try the universal fit one.
