  1. That's what I was about to point out. My BMF1000d benched at over 1400 at 13.8v. Those amps are highly underrated. I'm not sure how underrated the Kickers are but you will probably not see any gain at all. I'm not even sure it would sound better. See if he'll let you swap it out and see if it's worth the change...also I'm not sure how much more power would help you anyway once you run into compression on your sub.

  2. Oh and those EXACT SAME crossovers were with those EXACT SAME mids. We used peerless tweets in his because they had a little better responce than any of hte other in their price range.

  3. If those guys were talking jibberish then you are in trouble building a crossover...Those EXACT SAME crossovers sound great in the setup I built for my dad...they are a hell of a lot easier to install than building one. I'm very good at that stuff and I didn't see the point in it for a simple HT setup. A SQ music system would be somethign else but rap doesn't qualify as SQ IMO. If you canceled them then good luck building your own.

  4. Why not just drop that amp to 1 ohm and be careful with the gain and see what you get. I'm pretty sure that amp will take that load without trouble if you don't push it really hard (It'll go into protection but won't hurt it...all modding does is take out the protection most of the time)

If that doesn't do it I would say port port port and get an amp that does about 800-1kw at either 4 or 1 ohm. What kind of truck is this? I have done many installs in everything from mini's to fullsize single cabs and never had any problem with single 15s (stamped basket) in mazda/ranger/s-10 trucks and dual 12 cast or dual 15 stamped in fullsize chevy/ford/dodge trucks and never hurt the seat movement.

  5. I used some pre mades from PE...I just looked at the graphs and picked the tweet to match the first rolloff of the mid then bought crossovers for that point. The tweet would go very low because it was oversized and stayed smooth way up in the range so they worked perfect together.

  6. I'll get some ASAP. I was lucky enough to have time to build housings into the ceiling and hang my boxes up there so I can image them later. My wifes dad cellulosed the attic so there was no problem with insulation.

  7. I bought a bunch of those Dayton 7" aluminum cone mids from them and some Peerless tweets (they no longer carry) to do an HT setup in my dads house and they sound very nice. Granted I've only got one set of mids and tweets mounted sealed in the ceiling but I have another 7-8 of them left to do the towers and center channel. Packaging was great and they sound really smooth...amazing for about $15 per speaker.

My next 3 way setup with come from Partsexpress and be mostly Dayton speaker. Probably go with dome mids and tweets in kicks and a big healthy 8 for midbass in the factory location.

  8. I've used cardboard for a while now to do mockups. I used it for the front doors and the side profile of the box mostly. The rest of it was pretty strait forward measure/measure/measure/cut.

  9. Really good work. I like the way you trimmed the whole trunk area. I thought about doig that for the Impala I'm working on but the owner wanted to wait and have his trunk soundproofed by a shop (so they could spray it in) before I did that. Now I see how!

  10. Thats 42sq" of port and they worked out great as bracing too! I think one reason they work so well is the way the box jumps up behind the speaker like a ramp. The ports go all the way back to the top shelf so the air accumulates there and makes a circle then hits the ports. The sub really doesn't move much at all to get extremely loud and since it doesn't move much the ports really don't blow a lot of air anyway. We even tried a db Drag and USAC bass cd with sweeps and the sub never really looked like it was working and it was killing the car. Maybe I'll get this thing on a meter and see what she does. The guy came and picked it up today because I'm not going to be able to finish the box until this weekend and his dad came over to ask about putting an 8 in his car. Then when he went to college 3 of his friends want me to look at their rides and give them quotes on doing something for them. I'm really proud of myself because I learned a lot what I know from you guys here and at Termpro. I just want to say thank you to all you guys here that put in serious hours doing this and don't mind sharing with others.

  11. I wish this car was mine! It sounds so good now. I'm not on the level with some of you guys but I do my best to not half ass anything I do so you can rest assured all my joints fit tight as hell and all my wires are routed correctly and tied.

I ran all the speaker wire on the driver side, all the RCAs down the center and the power wire and remote wire down the passenger side. This guy never knew what it took to install some gear so he came over for a couple of days and "helped" It was fun and he leared a lot I think.

  12. Yeah I'm going to smooth the box with putty and sand it smooth. It won't have any seams or screw holes. Then I'm going to prime it black and then paint it with textured fleckstone paint. I might even put a gloss enamel on it (at the owners request)

I was going to mount the amps on the sides in the fender wells but this idea hit me when I started taking measurements and realised they would fit prefectly beside the box. I was worried about doing the triangular ports because of noise but I have to say for some reason they don't have any port noise at all...I'm really shocked and happy it turned out so well. I wish I had pics of me installing the P6.2s in the doors and back deck. Actually I'll get pics of the back deck install tonight but I'm not taking the doors off again unless I have to. They are on a 3/4 MDF plate and the tweets are flushmounted into the doors above the mids.

  13. Yeah it's a 35.1. Sorry I fixed that in another thread but forgot to when I copy/pasted.

I don't have pics of the car. It's a black Jon Moss signature SS. Not much to see on the outside...just a black LT1 SS.

  14. Here are some pics of the '96 Impala SS I've been working on in my spare time for the past couple of weeks. It's nearing completion and I want to see what you guys think. I'm not up to using fiberglass just yet but I think my next install might be a testing ground.

    Anyway...on to the gear!

    Alpine CDA-9835

    Orion 8004

RE 12.1 LE (the black one!!!!)

    RE HC 15 (1)

    Orion P6.2 (2 sets)

#1 wire fused at 250A then distributed via #4 to each amp fused with 80A fuse 4" away. All component crossovers are behind the amps in the amp rack along with the fuses and distribution block. Each amp is grounded to the floor of the car with their own wire. #1 for the RE and #4 for the Orion. The box is 3.55 cubes after all displacement with 42sqin of port tuned at 33hz. This setup get LOW! The box is going to be puttied over on all the seams and screw holes and will be painted with black fleckstone. It should look very smooth when done. The orions sound perfect and with the crossovers on the Alpine I've set the fronts up at 18 db/octave and they are tight.

    ON TO THE PICTURES!

  15. OK so I was considering this amp heavily but wasn't sure of useing it at 1 ohm because I want an amp that will last for 10 years of normal daily use. This changed my sub options but if all is well I might go ahead with a 1 ohm load.
