    Blown fuses and smoke

I got in my truck this morning and started it up then turned on my stereo. I heard a small pop and noticed my front speakers were not working. I started investigating and discovered the 3 fuses on my 100.2 had all blown. I went to put in new ones and they blew right away and then smoke came from the amplifier. I have gone over all my power and ground wiring and cannot find any shorts. I have a sundown 1200d running off the exact same power and ground thru distribution blocks. That amp continues to play my subs and the fuses are all fine. I opened up the 100.2 and saw a burned part. I guess it's one of the fets along the side. Is this an amp problem or is it something else I've not found? I don't want to pay to have the amp fixed and then hook it up to be destroyed again. It's weird because I've had the system installed now for a few months and never had any problem.

    Blown fuses and smoke

you do know that this was your fault right and chris will make the amp run like new. Listen genius, you have no idea what caused it. You haven't looked at my trucks wiring and you haven't seen the amps guts. I have seen both and I know a thing or two about electronics. Like I said I checked the wiring myself and had it looked at by a local shop. There is no short on these cable runs anywhere. For one thing the 100.2 is not the only amp running off the same power system thru distribution blocks. The other Sundown is fine. If the fuse blows internally it can't be the ground or power before that point in the circuit. The battery fuse or distribution block fuse would have blown instead. So that narrows the problem down quite a bit to either an amp problem or a speaker short problem. I checked those cables and so has someone else who does this everyday for a living. We have ruled out the speaker wires. That leaves the amp. Lots of things could have caused the amp to go bad internally. Electronic parts fail all the time. I'll say this about Sundown and then I'm out. I spent close to a grand on these amps 2 years ago. I have had a few problems and every time I came here for resolution I was treated rudely by other forum members. I don't have a problem with the product or even that the product failed so soon. The general attitude is how dare you say anything bad about Sundown. It can't be Sundowns fault it's automatically user error. Well, I hate to break it to you but even Sundowns can fail and yes, sometimes it's even sundowns fault.

    Blown fuses and smoke

Well had my truck looked at just to be sure I didn't miss anything. All my wiring is fine. The amp just failed. Owned it for 2 years and 2 months. In that time I put around 3k miles on the car it was installed in. I only played it when I drove the car which is hardly ever. Db-r quoted me $80 to rebuild the amp. I think that's a good price but if the original amp only lasted 2 years I have to wonder how long I can expect from a rebuild.

    Blown fuses and smoke

I checked all my cables for a short and can't find one visually or with a multimeter. Anyone have a suggestion of what else to look for? I'm a little paranoid about putting the amp back in if I don't figure out what caused it.

    Blown fuses and smoke

I bet one of my wires going into my passive crossover inside my door came loose. Chris at db-r Click this will be able to get you back up and running after you troubleshoot your speaker wiring. Thanks, I sent them an email with a couple pictures of inside the amp. Hopefully the damage is less than buying a new one.

    Bravox CS60K Component Set Review!!

I've been rockin a set of these in my f150 for a week and love them. At first I had them going off the stock head unit just to try them out and was worried they were going to suck after hearing them. Once I hooked them to a Sundown 100.2 they started to sing. Awesome sound from these speakers for the price. Wish my truck got better MPG so I could listen to them more...

    CUSTOMER FEEDBACK SECTION for SSA

Bought some bravox CS60K comps last week. Got them super fast. Had a couple questions and got answered right away. Good service.

    Headunit choices.

Just curious what head unit some of you are using. I've been using a Kenwood kdc-x791 for the last year and I hate it. It sounds good but the screen is horrible in daytime and the interface is the worst I've ever seen. Anyone have a good suggestion in the $300-$400 range? I mostly play mp3 so that feature is a must.

    Headunit choices.

I was looking at the eclipse mkII 7200 but it says 8v preout, is that to much for Sundown 1200 and a 100.2? The next one I like is the Alpine but it seems like you have to buy so many addons to get features that come with many other brands. Pioneer was on the list until I read about the interface not being to good and I just came from a unit with a crappy interface so I'm a little wary of the pioneers. Although that prs880 looks nice enough to forgive the interface short comings.

amp trouble with my sae 1200 :-(

Do you notice in the picture how far back the wire is exposed on that lead going into the big inducter? That's begging for a short circuit. It looks like it is in contact with one of the resistor leads in the picture. There is a very thin varnish type material that coats those wires but it scratches off very easily. I wouldn't count on it preventing a short.

    I had to work people!

Listen 1st of all I posted on here a few days ago about not getting my invoice. I had to go out of town for a job and could not post. This is the 1st chance I've had. Just let me start by saying some of you are so out of line it's unbelievable. I'm a paying customer who spent alot on my 2 amps. All I wanted was my invoice that DB-r fucked up and didn't send. The reason I posted here is because where else do I go when DB-r never get's around to sending the damn invoice? Give me a break I have done nothing wrong at all except ask for the invoice and it's not my problem if Db-r can't seem to remember our e-mail communications in which they told me they would send the invoice when they were less busy. I wouldn't have posted here at all if they got there act together but when I come here and read Jacobs FAQ where he says my amps warrenty will be void without that invoice what am I supposed to do? I have to say I'm shocked at the way I have been treated on this forum. I never insulted anyone or put down the quality of Sundown amps in any way whatsoever but I got treated like a piece of dirt by some of the posters on this forum. The way that Jacob and DB-r acted like I'm some kind of moron for posting here about the invoice is unbelievable. Maybe if DB-r got it's act together in the 1st place this wouldn't have happened.

    I'm done with Sundown..

I've made repeated efforts to get an invoice for one of the amps I bought from DB-r over the last 6 months. I've posted here and sent e-mails to db-r. Neither of you have lifted a finger to help me. I've come to the conclusion that Sundown support is all hype because when I needed some help I couldn't get any at all. The next time I spend a grand on audio equipment it will be someplace else.

    Sundown Amplifier FAQ

I don't feel like playing detective either. I posted on here right after I bought a 100.2 from dbr that i did not get an invoice with it. I also sent them an e-mail and they responded that they were busy but would send me one when they had a chance. That was 6 months ago and I'm still waiting. In fact I had forgot all about it until I read this thread today. My amps run with zero problems and I don't forsee any but if they ever did need repair I would be seriously disappointed to be told my warranty is no good without the invoice i never got.

    Being apart of Sundown

Hell I should become a team member just based on the fact that I probably have the smallest car per watt around. I have a tiny Honda Del Sol with about 2k watts of Sundown goodness in it. Nobody ever expects it when they get in my car and I crank it up hehe.

    1500D problem

This is what makes the Sundown name stand out above so many other companies. No other owner is going to step up like this to try and help a customer.

    Having problems with amps.

I bought 2 Sundown amps. One sax-100.2 and one sae-1200D. The 1st problem affects both amplifiers. Neither of the remote gain controls work. The blue led lights up on both but when you turn the dial it does nothing. Just so it's clear I set the gains on the amps 1st with a dmm then if I try and adjust it further in my cab with the remote gains nothing happens. The 2nd problem is with the sae-1200d. This amp is barely putting out any power at all. I have triple checked all my wiring and even hooked up an Infinity 600 watt amp to the subs I'm using to see if it does the same thing but it gets plenty loud with the infinity. If it makes a difference I have 2 10" dual 4ohms PG rsdc competition subs wired down to 1 ohm. All my power and grounds are done with 1/0 gauge wire and I have also done the big 3 with 1/0 gauge wire. The 3rd problem I have is that when I bought the 100.2 I did not receive an invoice. I have mentioned it here on this forum and I have e-mailed DB-r where the amp was purchased and they do not respond.

    Having problems with amps.

No worries, I probably won't even use it anyway. I was off work today so I did some more work on my install and I think I got it all dialled in perfectly. Man, I gotta say this is by far the best sounding system I've ever had. I must of spent 2 hours just listening to different tunes before I realized so much time went by. The 1200D is the perfect amp for someone like me who wants nice SQ but then once in awhile you feel like blasting your face off. On my stock amp that puts out 90 amps I can turn it up to unbearable levels (for me) and not dim my lights. Another thing I was worried about was the amp heating up but I had zero issues with it after a good 2hrs straight of blasting it. I kept touching the amp to see if it was hot and it never even felt like it changed temp at all. Anyway, I'm not worried about the remote and plus it's kinda redundant when I have sub control on my headunit. I also got in touch with db-r today and they are sending me an invoice. Nice guys over there. They were friendly and helped me get everything squared away. I'm really happy I bought these Sundown amps and I'm thinking I might try some of your subs in the near future.

    Having problems with amps.

Yes I am using the correct remotes for each amp. The hard wired remote is for the 1200d. The 100.2 remote does work in LPF I figured out but the 1200D remote doesn't work at all.

No, nothing happens when I turn the knob either up or down. The led's are on though so I know they are connected right.

Yah, hopefully Jacob can tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'm sure I'll get it worked out eventually. Thanks for the help from you guys though I appreciate it.

    Having problems with amps.

I figured out the output problem and now the sae-1200d cranks. I had the crossover accidently set to the lowest point. Once I turned that up to about 80hz the amp came to life big time. I have a stock alt so I don't expect to get the full potential from the amp yet. Oh and the 100.2 puts out way more than 100 watts by my ear. I didn't do any scientific tests or anything but I can tell by listening that it's under rated by far. I had to turn the gain way down on it to get a good match with the subwoofer volume. Now I just need to figure out why the remotes aren't working. It doesn't matter if the 100.2 is in low pass, high pass or thru, the remote still doesn't work. The sae-1200d doesn't have a low, high or thru option.

    Got my new SAE-1200D

I got my 1200D yesterday evening and had a chance to look it over and take some pics today. 1st off this thing is built like a tank, very solid feeling amp. It blows away the Infinity 611A I have been using as far as build quality goes and the Infinity costed just as much when I bought it new a few years ago. Not to mention the Infinity puts out half the power. On one side of the amp it's got heavy duty power connecters that take 1/0 gauge wire. They are not made from cheap crap that makes you afraid to tighten things up.The speaker outs and remote turn on are built the same way. It's also got 5 30 amp fuses. On the other side there are 2 rca inputs and I believe 2 rca passthru's. It's got everything you need for a subwoofer amp IMO. It has phase, bass eq, subsonic, x-over, sub remote, gains and high input. The thing I noticed right off is how well you can read the labels of each thing since it's white on black. I hate amps where you can't read what knob your adjusting once you have it bolted down and you have to work from weird angles unless you feel like dismantling your install. Overall based on looks and build quality I'd say this is one sweet ass looking amp. Here are some pitures I took of the SAE-1200D: Hopefully I'll have it installed this weekend.
  25. Does the new heatsink on the sax-100.2 look the same as the SAE-1200D? Just curious because I thought it would be all black but the one I got today from db-r wasn't.
