    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

theres some clays i believe at home depot or elsewhere that have high temp ratings? i was looking them up a bit ago. tried to do a quick search for it but cant find it... hmmm forgot the name edit: maybe it was Duct Seal. which can also be found at home depot and some other common stores. meant for gardening i think lol. but ive heard it can work well to mass load? what do you think?

Left tweeter seems to be dying, sounds weak

i know you would say that! lol but yea okay i will go off of what sounds good. but im also just curious if its actually putting it back in phase, when its reversed polarity at the amp, because maybe the speaker was wired wrong initially ive heard about doing this. but also heard you can damage the speaker doing it...

Left tweeter seems to be dying, sounds weak

i tried looking those tweeters up, cant find them. just curious what tweeters they are, since you said you used them. lol wanted to see what you use. but also..... pleaseeeeee simple question i hope.... so i was messing around with my speaker wires at the amplifier. and mixing the polarities.... i remember i made them out of phase before and noticed right away. but this time its much harder to tell. its very subtle differences, it seems. but i think i do like the left speaker out of phase, and the right in phase. it seems to make the left speaker less harsh and less piercing. but it made me question if the speakers themselves were wired correctly to begin with. because if the speakers are wired out of phase on the speaker itself.... then by making the wires at the amplifier out of phase, it should then mean its actually in phase then? right? as in the speaker is wired - to + and + to -. but then at the amplifier its wired - to + and + to -. then the two being out of phase, would actually mean the sound being played is in phase? right? im not sure if its actually wired like that. but wondering. because at the amp when i swap the polarity then it sounds overall better, i think.... less punchy and more of a well rounded sound. on the left side.... so to check if its in phase or not. i took off door panels and played a woofer tester thing on youtube, ill link it below. but it definitely made the midbass woofer bounce and different low end frequencies. but i tried to look to see if the speaker was pushing out or pushing inwards. and i kept swapping the polarity at the amp back and forth. disconnecting negative terminal at battery and reconnecting it.... took me awhile but i cant fking tell if its pushing in or out.... all looks the same lol.... other than electrical equipment to check the polarity, how can i tell if its in phase? ive seen some apps on my phone, but none seemed to work? all seemed randomly saying in phase or not? thanks m5!

Left tweeter seems to be dying, sounds weak

its alpine type R, the SPR 60c speakers i got them from sonic electronix and ive heard they have a reputation of sometimes selling refurbished items, but listing them as new. but it was a decent price at their place at the time. thinking back im not so sure i would buy from them again. but luckily they do have the 1 year time where i can exchange it if theres an issue or something so ill send back the tweeter, and i think they will test it, and then send me a new one. they claim to have a fee if they test it and its not actually having any issues. but it is having issues as far as i can tell.

ok thanks. i was thinking about disconnecting my tweeter a bit earlier today so i can drop it off at post office tomorrow. but i am busy tomorrow till midday and ill check this real quick if i can. but if not i think i may just send the tweeter in. and i should hopefully get the tweeter back in around 7 days at the most. and ill post back here when i get it for an update. hope it works!

Left tweeter seems to be dying, sounds weak

ok thanks. yea lol sounds a tad bit complicated for me to do. just because i dont know what 2x F means? and well you say i can easily destroy the tweeter. but thanks for letting me know. i like to know what options i have available. and hey i may feel daring and try something new every now and then, but yea, like you said ill just send out the tweeter. theres definitely something weird. i think the tweeter that i always though was fine, sounds okay at times. but then again, at times it sounds very harsh and high pitched. although theres not distortion that i can tell. unlike the other speaker which occasionally makes a crackling noise. so im very curious if the new tweeter will also sound very high pitched and slightly painful at times. but as long as it doesnt crackle, then im sure i can go ahead and use my parametric EQ to attempt to fix the harshness. but i think i should start by getting a new tweeter before i mess with the EQ any further. also..... i want to use a knife or something sharp, to make a very light and small scratch into a part of the outer casing of the tweeter. or something to be able to identify if they send me back the same exact tweeter. i honestly think they may just send me the same tweeter. of course i may be able to notice it by listening... but id rather know 100% without having to second guess it. what would you suggest? a small scratch with a knife should work? i feel like a sticker or permanent marker can easily be removed with rubbing alcohol lol. a small scratch shouldnt damage the tweeter, nor do anything bad, just to let me identify it

Left tweeter seems to be dying, sounds weak

ok thanks. only way i can think of to play just the tweeter is to disconnect the midbass woofer? so the signal would still have to go through the crossover. unless theres some way to just play the tweeter without the crossover? i dont see how?

    Welcome to the IHoP v.2

ok thanks lol hmmm but i dont know if those would be very visible when installed? edit: well i guess it can be visible, depends on the rim style trying to lookup neat aftermarket brake calipers online to see how they could look but idk seems neat, but hard to tell

weirdest thing is it went away or sounded less loud, when i would tilt my head at an angle or cover my ear with my finger....

Left tweeter seems to be dying, sounds weak

ok thanks. so whats a test bench for speakers? ive heard of and seen test benches for pc gaming rigs and such. but the tweeter has a weird connection at the end that seems to only be compatible with the crossover it came with? its like an alligator clip that slides into the other part of the wire for the crossover? i dont know how to just play the tweeter unless i just disconnect the midbass woofer. and play sound through the headunit, which would then go to crossover and only be played through tweeters, once the midbass woofer is disconnected? but i am pretty sure its the right tweeter. (used to be on left side but i swapped it) i can balance the sound from left to right, either balanced, or up to number 15 left or 15 right on my headunit settings. so i would balance the system to the side with the tweeter in which i suspect to be having issues. because its now on the right side and further away, i balanced the sound to number 5 over to the right. so its significantly on that side. and when playing music for around a total of 1 hour yesterday, i could hear the distortion that would sometimes happen when that same tweeter was on the left side, right next to me when driving. i think the biggest issue is, its easier to notice the small imperfections in the tweeter when its on the left side, where i am sitting in the drivers seat. and a bit more difficult to tell when its on the right side, further away from me. but even when its completely balanced to one side or the other, and constantly swapping sides with the balance, its somewhat noticeable, but sometimes can be confusing. i think it made it much easier, when some volume was out of one side, but the side i suspected had the issue was being played a bit lourder, so the imperfections could be heard easier. the issue with the volume always being lower on the right side now is one issue. which i though weird, that just the tweeter can cause such a difference in volume level, even though it sounds pretty similar in quality of sound. but there is a slight difference in the quality but much more difficult to notice. until i listened to it for a longer time and had both playing sound. but the slight crackling distorted sound does play only at certain parts of songs, seems to happen more so with female vocals. and well it happened a few times. so yea ill be sending in the tweeter! thanks for all of the help guys, and m5! but sadly yesterday at night time, i started to get a very high pitched ringing in my left ear only. i thought my pc tower motherboard or gpu were causing it. until i realized i didnt hear any ringing at all in my right ear..... and when i tilted my head slightly or covered my left ear, the ringing would somewhat go away. so weird that when tilting my head at an angle caused the ringing to stop a bit....... pretty sure i damaged something in my ear. i hope its temporary. for now ill give these long music testing and high volume things a break. im seriously concerned for the health of my ear now... sort of funny, but also a bit scarry.

I did not disconnect anything when playing test tones. But i thought a test tone of 1000hz or 2500 hz shoud both only be played out of tweeters? And a test tone of 100hz should only be mid bass and not tweeter? So i assumed they should not interfere. And i dont think i heard the mid bass play the 1000hz tone at all. I may try only the midbass to see how they sound but i think its quite difficult to disconnect the midbass speakers because of where the crossover and connections are for it.

Left tweeter seems to be dying, sounds weak

who is Shawn and yea i dont want to spend alot of money on something to test my speakers, speakers are not cheap for me, but i guess in comparison to some peoples standards they may be cheap but i still do appreciate learning the info from m5 about what equipment can be used, and other possible equipment that can be used as alternatives. learning is always a good thing and i am open to listening the whatever m5 wants to say. when theres someone who is willing to spend time and answer my questions i appreciate it and read what they say with interest. even more so the fact that he seems to have great knowledge on nearly every area that ive asked about. im aware you two have your differences and well thats how it is on the internet, but you cannot deny that m5 is knowledgeable. even if u wont admit it here, due to your past together. just move on. im sure he may be willing to help you out if you try to move past arguing

Left tweeter seems to be dying, sounds weak

yea lol it is a huge leap....;. i dont even know where to start with those things you just mentioned. so im wondering whats the next best thing to do? i do feel as though the tweeter has an issue. but like ive said, i dont really know if i am completely convinced. when it was hooked up to the left side before, it always seemed to have an issue. and now i moved the tweeter it still seems to always be playing at a lower volume. but the type of sound produced from left door to right door is quite a bit different. its super weird. i really dont know what to make of it. the left side sounds louder and more crisp. while the right door sounds lower volume but deeper bass sound. i do like the less crisp side a bit because the crispy high notes hurt on the left door. the thing is.... both sides should be the same considering i didnt alter anything at all that should make left side sound so much different from the right side... i dont think its just the tweeter thats causing this issue, although id argue it is part of the issue.

whats a woofer tester? and i thought u said a cheap multimeter wont work? so how would i test one note at a time? test tones? around how much should i expect to pay for a multimeter that can do this? thanks! edit: just looked up woofer tester and these things look expensive? at least $100? and i would have to completely remove the speakers to test each individually? wow? im trying to get help. and m5 is really nice enough to spend time and answer my questions. please can you stop these petty comments. contribute something positive or go elsewhere

Left tweeter seems to be dying, sounds weak

lol ok thanks. yea id be looking into a cheapo one since i dont really know how to use one or when i would ever use one again, other than now. im considering asking another local shop nearby if they have any equipment such as an advanced multimeter and/or feel confident in trouble shooting these things.... id hate to go in ask them to look at it and say theres nothing they can do and still charge me a stupid fee. but i feel as though ive done all i can as of now? i may just send in the tweeter, and hook up new tweeter when i get it. and then go from there. depending on how it sounds after, i may need to bring it to another shop to get someone with more experience have a look and get their opinion. but im very hesitant to bring to my car to any shop due to the other one being bad, and i feel like they will all try to take advantage of me and charge me for doing almost nothing or make up some issues just to get paid more.

hey m5 so would a multimeter help me? if not what would? its very difficult to really pinpoint the exact issue still... some songs sound better than others and my opinion keeps somewhat changing. although im still somewhat convinced the tweeter has issues. yet at times its hard to tell......
