Either would be a 15." The setup is going into a Dakota ext. cab. Ive got my electrical upgrades (200 amp alternator, extra battery, and big 3 done with double runs of 0 ga.) and sound deadening is completed. Ill be powering either driver with a AQ 2200 (Gain will be set accordingly). I listen mostly to 90% reggae music, 5% rap, and another 5% with a mix of others. Am wanting a setup that is very musical, and can get loud when needed. But dont get me wrong, am not looking for an all out SQ setup, but i do like to sound good. The enclosure will be constructed around whatever driver is selected, hopefully by this weekend. Both are in the $500 range give or take a few bucks so that part of the equation is done. Am really leaning more to low-end bass because of the bass guitar that I love and is used heavily in reggae music. I would really like to make a purchase by the end of the week or any information would be great. Thanks

If the DP and 9500 are more similar drivers, which would outperform the other in their optimum enclosures. Thanks honestly, i dont think youd notice a mega DB gain but i like the DP because you can tune it different and DD's just have a different sound to me that i dont like. I agree with you on this one. A guy at work that i didnt even know had a setup in his car gave me a demo of his DD setup (2 12" 9500) on an Audiopipe. It was loud as hell (enough to give me a headach), but the "SQ" was nothing to talk about, and thats not what am looking for. I need a woofer that can do both, and from what ive read on both subs it seems that ill be getting a 15" DP here in the near future. Thanks for the input guys.

Yea well, this is a open forum, I will say what ive seen. If you've got a problem with the guy for whatever reason thats your problem, sort it out with him. You shouldnt cry about it in ppl posting what they have seen and experience.

Am not talking about RDs customer service, we all know that it sucks ass, thats a given. What i was taking about was their products that I have seen first hand. I know guys that have been running their subs/amps without problems for a few years now. I personally am running a 15" FI Q on a AQ 2200 amp. Am not saying that I am going to buy a RD product ( But I had considered it at one point, but the CS screwed it all up). But i must say that SSA does have a pretty quick turn around time with returned equipment, and my hat goes off to them. But i was just giving my opinion from my personally experience, and for the most part I thought that what forums were about. Didnt really expect to get bashed for sharing, but ill know better for next time.

Yea, am going to go with the 15" DP in a 3.9 cu.ft enclosure tuned to 32 Hz with extra bracing. I wanted to tune it lower around 28~30 Hz but this should work. Hopefully I get what am looking for, if not ill try something else i.e another enclosure. Thnaks for all the help guys

I know that this post maybe useless to some ppl, and I may not even get a single response but here goes. I am planning to purchase either a single 12" or 15" IA Death Penalty for my application. It will be going into a 2000 dokota ext.cab and am running the AQ2200 in either a 2.5 cb.ft net for the 12" or 3.75 cb.ft net for the 15". I was woundering which would play the low end with more authority. The reason for my asking is for a 15" enclosure, the enclosure will take up most all of the cab space under the glass (no wall). I believe that with so much room taken up, it would give the sound less surfaces to bounce of giving a more boomy sound than low end. Whereas with a 12", the enclosure will be smaller which gives more surfaces for the sound to bounce off giving a more quality low end sound. Am I correct in my thinking? If not, then can someone let me know how it works? Any input is welcome. Thanks

Are your talking about resonant frequency of the vehicle? As in larger vehicles tend to have lower res. freq.? YES. Thanks man i couldnt get my words right for shit. Now in a truck like mines (2000ext. cab dakota), how do i know which woofer at what frequency will perform better?

Ok let say that we take two of the exact same subs and place them in the exact same enclosure tuned the same. Place one in an SUV and one in an ext. cab truck. The setup in the SUV seems to yeild more output with low end extension verses the setup in the ext. cab truck which sound more boomy. Now lets just work with with a smaller space, the truck. Since the 15" enclosure takes up most of the ext. cab part of the cab taking up a lot of space, while the 12" will take up about 1.25 cu.ft less, will this yelid more low end bass to the ear with the 12" having more space to work with in the cab? Am just throwing this out there. I just want to make the right chose in the size woofer I purchase. Thanks

I am using an AQ 2200 amp. With that size box what size enclosure would you recommend? I could probably do a 4 cu.ft but the port would be like 2~3 inches from the side wall of the truck. I was thinking that this would take away from the sound and cause port noise.

Am trying to find out if a box that is 3.75 cu.ft net vol. with 64.5 sq.in of port be to small for this sub. I was considering buying a DP over a DR and needed to know. If it is them ill go with a DR in the same box. Am looking for mostly authoritive low-end bass, the box will be tuned to 30~32 Hz. How does this sound for what am looking for? Any input will be helpful. Thanks

Yes i did. I was just wanting to know if i would be able to get the low end extension with a slightly smaller enclosure than the average size enclosure that i saw on the IA site. Im using the AQ 2200D amp, but will set the gains so that it put out around 1800 watts. How does this sound?

I am getting a recone from a high quality company, one from this site. Enough said, am not going to get nothing else from this thread so thanks to all that lend their input.

So i had 2 of these sealed and decided on going one ported. I had the other in my room for about a month, before selling it to my brother. He got through with the enclosure built, and put the sub in but there was no sound. Its a dual 1 ohm so it is wired to 2 ohms (triple checked it). When we hook up either side, the sub will play, but when wired to 2 ohms there is no sound. Tried the sub in another car and the exact same thing happens. Any suggestions on what is going on?

Just for what its worth. I used a DMM to make sure that a each sub ohm rating was correct before uses (two dual 1 ohms voice coils subs wired to 1 ohm). This is how i know that i wired them correctly. Ive been dealing with car audio from i was 15 years old, and here it is 11 years later and i have my first sub fail on me. No disrespect to you, but I dont think that one company on this site is much better than the other when it comes to getting a recone. So getting a recone is my business and ill leave it at that with no more to say. But anyways, thanks to all that chimed in and lend their input. Thanks you

2-3 mth old thread, but dont sleep on RD products nor SSA. Am good friends with ppl that use both products. All I can say is dont jugde a book by its cover, dont speak what you dont know, and try both before talking S$!t like ive heard lots of ppl do on this and many other sites. Both products are great quality, its just user decision on what they want. Just my 2 cents.

Yea man. I think its something to do with the coils IMHO. I think am going to get a recone from Fi or possible get a Hybrid made. I always woundered what difference in sound would there be with a motor from one company and soft parts from another. But anyways, thanks for all the input out there.

KU40 your right, pos is on the left for both sides and both voice coils are seperate, wasnt thinking. I tested the terminals with two different DMM and both gave same readings for both terminals. Ive tried testing a few different ways with the DMM but i still continue to get these jacked up reading and no output from the sub in a battery "pop" test. Ill just cut my loses and get something else. Thanks for all the input. You guy have been really helpful in trying to get the issue sorted out.

No need for a video. Like i posted earlier, this was how i wired the subs with the pos terminal always on the right for both terminals. I though that the sub was out of phase, so i wired it the way i was told and it play for a few seconds them stopped it didnt smell or anything. I used a DMM on one terminal and its reading anywhere from 0.2~65 yes 65 ohms. On the other terminal it now reads anywhere from 1.3~100 ohms. Tried going from pos on one side to neg on the other and it reads open. So am sure its all f#$ked up now. Guess now ill really have to get a recone.

That how it is for both terminals, red is on the left and black is on the right. Or are you telling me to do something else. I guess i didnt get what you were saying.

Positive on the left negative on the left for both terminals? Yes for both terminals

With the sub on the table( magnet on the table, cone up) the pos is on the left neg on the left for both terminals.

My previous post shows how the sub terminals are labeled and how i wired it. I dont have a camera to take pics. Shouldnt the diagrams show the same thing as pics would?
