I created this thread so everyone can post pictures of their tint so that I can get an idea because in the next month or two I plan on re-tinting my car. Currently, I have 15% all around and nothing on the windshield but I want more privacy and heat protection from the shield so right now I am planning on doing atleast 5% all around and 50% on the windshield but am considering as dark as 35% on top of 5% all around and 35% on the windshield. I don't want to hear anything about legal issues, trust me I am aware. Just interested in your opinion and if anyone has experience with tint on the windshield and how it is to drive in rain/night/both.... Also Will 5% all around give me complete privacy during bright summer days or will people still be able to see in a little bit, which is why I would add another layer of 35% or possibly 15%. Here is what I have now (15% all around) but obviously i took the pictures to make them look as dark as possible so I will update this weekend with more realistic pictures

Hello everyone, I will be getting a new car come this winter and won't be putting my current sound system into the new car. Instead, I decided I would take the subs and box out and put them in my room. I didn't want to use my car amp and have to find a power supply or any of that mess so I've been doing some research and I think I need something like the amp in the link below. First, a little background on my equipment. I'm running (4) 10" SSA Dcons off of a Sundown 1000D. Something funky was going on with the SSA subs when I was ordering them and instead of getting a 2-ohm DVC they had to give me 4-ohm SVC (I may be wrong with that but if aI recall correctly that is what it is)... anyway, the subs are wired to 1-ohm so I was wondering if this amp would be good to use with them: http://www.amazon.com/QSC-RMX1850HD-Stereo-Power-Amplifier/dp/B0002GXXLA Let me know what you guys think or if I am going about this the wrong way. Based off the research I've done, it seems like I could get around 300 watts to each sub if I wired them to 4-ohms with that amp. If you have any other suggestions for amps (especially if it is a cheaper alternative) please share. Look forward to your help, Thanks

allright, well i guess i'd just use it for music then and bring the subwoofer that came with the HTIB for the few occasions i watch a movie with this system.

i haven't decided if it will go back in a car at some point or not, but i think i'd like to keep it in the same box.... mainly because i don't have time now to build one (much less 4) new boxes. as far as use.... it will be used mainly for music which is why the (approx) 32 hz tuning should work but hopefully its low enough that if i do watch a movie with it, it'll sound decent. what do you think?

ill have to look into that amp and the box is the one in my signature... its a ported box, roughly 4 cu. ft. if i recall and tuned to 31-32hz

how could you wire that so that each channel was 2-0hm if there are 4 subs and they are all 4-ohm single voice coil? unless I'm missing something, that isn't possible

I believe that is correct, for now at least.... however, i think a long time ago it was D2 and D4. They were making the switch from D2 to S4 when I ordered them (this was over a year ago). I have 4 of the 4-ohm SVC but would I be about to get two of these (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=248-4052) and wire 2 subs to each amp at 4-ohms.... That would give me approx. 230 watts rms to each sub. That is over 70% of the rating of the subs and if I recall correctly, one can get MOST of the subs potential from >70%. I would prefer a cheaper solution but this would be around $400. Thanks

I am looking to buy a double din video headunit so that I can have a backup camera. The alpine is my favorite so far but the cheapest I can find it for is $600 which is pushing my budget but I can sell my alpine 9886 and garmin for around $300-350 all together. Just pick which one you would get and why or which one you would stay away from if you have heard something... reason for getting it is i need a HU that supports rear view cameras because my tint I will be getting will make backing up at night hell. Must have functions are rearview camera and ipod full control (hence why i favor the alpine) all other things are extras but not mandatory. Thanks, Patrone

First of all I want to apologize because this post is LONG overdue, but finally it is here. I have been enjoying this setup since the summer, but thought I was going to be going to get something else installed and so I was waiting to make this thread until I did, but I have not found anytime and its not really a priority in my life right now to finish this... I'm satisfied for now and probably over christmas break will finish.... So I purchased (4) SoundSolution Audio Dcons in the 10" size and a Sundown 1000D. I had a custom box built but due to having to put it in my trunk, I had to decrease the size... the box was designed by Shizzon (thank you immensely) and built by Freeman's Audio in Hickory.... Here are some pictures of the build, some final, some in progress... and a few more to come.... Also threw in a picture of my 15% tint for the hell of it... For the subs, they are loud enough for my satisfaction and sound wonderful. Ofcourse, if i had time, money, and invincible ears, i would build a louder system (and have thought about it) but it is louder than my friends can stand and loud enough to damage my hearing so ive decidied this is enough for now and within a matter of time, i will probably loose interest in being loud anyway and just want the sound quality aspect..... arrival day. hell ya this is before i put on the final black suede plate and the amp... this is before even the red suede shot of inside the box of the port and bracing. bare box. 15% tint all around...i will never own a non-tinted car again.

I didn't do that wiring so I honestly can't answer that but its no a 95' 850, its a 1999 volvo s70 but they are very similar in many ways. My brother has a black 96 850 glt however... as for the eye doctor thing, yeah I've heard that too and I was born with esotropia so at one point I was considering doing this but I've heard its a HUGE pain in the ass to get all the paperwork done and go through the process and for 2 years I haven't had any problems with cops concerning tint so for now I'm going to hold off on that.

Hey, I tried to PM Sundownz but it would not work. Anyway, I currently have a Sundown 1000D amp and one day the blue LED decided to stop working. I don't know what caused this but I was wondering can it easily be fixed or can I get a new one shipped or what. It is not a huge deal but because of where I put it, it served as a floor light for me. Thanks, Alex

maybe it was just the recordings ive heard but i can tell a difference.. ive also been playing violin and cello since i was 4 and guitar since i was 13 so i would consider my ears well trained.

well unfortunately the plan did not work.... i had planned to get 5% added to my current 15% at Custom Daves in Mooresville but he wouldn't do it not knowing the film or condition of the film put on since he did not do my 15%. So then i went locally to England Bros and they would not do it either because they thought it would peel. So i went to plan B. Plan B was get the shield done at England Bros (since Dave's wouldnt do shields either) and then go to Daves and get 15 stripped and 5 put on.... well at first the plan was working. Friday I dropped the car off in the morning and picked it up at 11am. Windshield done! They gave me options of 5, 15, or 35 in their regular Aegis tint or 45 in their nano. The nano tint is more for heat reduction and costs way more. Supposedly it cuts 90% of heat, i dont know if that is legit but the regular film costs $60 for a shield and this was $150 but I decided to go for it becuase i was afraid 35 might be too dark. So then yesterday (saturday) i had my appointment with Dave's to get the 15 stripped and 5 added. Then friday night my mom found out about the plan because she saw my car at England Bros and called me out. Well my friends were with me and we almost had her to a breaking point and then i just decided to not go through the hassle of if we could even convince her and i decided that if i got 5 it would shoot my chances of getting pulled up and since i havnt yet i didnt want to do that... also just this week a kid got 5 all around put on at school and got a ticket and had to strip so after all the rambling the point of this story is that i kept my old 15 all around and added 45% to the shield. If i had known i was going to stay at 15 i probably would have gone with the 35% but i thought i was going to have 5 so i went lighter. It blocks out alot of sun and adds quite a bit of privacy. Also makes the front windows seem darker than before because it is blocking out some sun. Ofcourse the same day it was put on there was a WICKED rain storm. For example, i was in Subway with my friend eating and it started raining and by the time we were done it was pouring and my car was probably about 25 yards from the door and by the time we ran out to my car it looked like we had been drenched with a bucket of water. But it was a good test to see how dangerous the tint was and it was no harder seeing than without it. I saw with rain there is no difference and at night there isnt much differece at all. From the inside you can't tell it is tinted unless you know and are looking for the difference. Also the line of the tint is virtually impossible to see. Looks perfect. (Props to England Bros once again) Maybe their new tint guy and tint shop was a good investment. Anways, if i were to it again id either go the same route or maybe 35. Even though i went the expensive route with the nano tint im glad i did and i love the tint. Received nothing but compliments from friends and people. as far as the film goes. it does seem to block out ALOT of heat. Compared to the side and back tint the shield has a more blueish hue to it whereas the other tint has a greenish hue to it. Shield is Nano 45% (idk anyhting else bout the nano) and the other is Llumar 15%. Also the windshield tint has a more hazy look to it. I dont know if that is because the angle of the glass/tint or the film. But once again, i love it and think the 150 was wel worth it.

what do you guys think would be a reasonable price for a full windshield job. ive heard anywhere from $40-150.

thats a good idea. a) as far as brands to use all i have used so far is Llumar 15% film and i believe it is the CTX but im not positive. I have nothing bad to say about it. Works great. Heat blocked. Has lasted for over a year so far. No problems. From inside it has a very slight green hue to it but not a problem at all to me. b) havent had any yet. c) heat rejection, glare reduction, refelctance, and UV rejection but for most its 99% or better d) I used England Bros in Viewmont, NC and my brother used Custom Dave's in mooresville. I think my brother got the better deal. We have practically the same car. Mine is a 99 Volvo S70 and his is a 96 Volvo 850 which basically are the same as far as design and window sizes etc. Mine cost $225 and his was $140 and we both got all around me 15% and him 20%. I also had to drop my car off and leave it there most of the day and my brother dropped his off and the guy siad itd take about 90min and my brother waited there and he was done in 75min and it looked great. He has only had his tint for a week so there isnt much to say yet but it seems great and its suntek carbon film and im getting my car tinted soon and im heading to Custom Dave's this time.

naa bro tint would look "G" on your car just dont go crazy dark on it. yeah it would look good with tint. my brother just got his whip with 20 all around and words cant explain how much better it looks.... its also black though and i think black cars are the best looking with tint. but my car is white and i think tint made it look better too. cant go wrong with it.

hahaha lmao. well within the next 5 weeks I should get my tint done. I decided, screw it. Im going 5% over my 15% now on all windows and 50% on front windshield. It'll be dark as hell but I should only have this car till December 2011
