Of course without knowing what level, what song is recorded at, setting your gain based on that clipping isn't particularly (read at all) useful. You get the cd with the device. The vid SM made, showed that on his handheld o-scope it started clipping exactly at the point the light flashed, and he just put in the 60hz cd and the 1000hz test tone. They will first build prototypes and let them test by people, and improve, that's why it still isn't for sale. He doesn't just wants to make money, but also to have a device that actually works the way it's made to function.(so not sell a non-working device.)

What knowledge do you need? Put in the cd and turn up the gain till the device shows a red light.(so not really "knowledge") Like i said a 5 year old could do it without having to read manuals that are longer then a page... It's quite easy to know why he said it will sound like shit. See that it has a peak at 47hz +6db.(logical that it's at 47hz, because that's what it's tuned to) The peak or resonant freqeuncy is close to it, so you get a huge spike around that frequency. I haven't found the correct resonant freq. but i assume it is above 42hz and under 55hz.

That's not using it how it's supposed to. It's very simple, take a X amount of watts sub and a Y amount of watts amp.(X=Y) It's just made to make sure you aren't clipping. That's why you tune it with a 0dB tone or a -3dB test tone. -3dB test tone is better if you have normal music, which means that it doesn't goes up to 0dB . Assuming your amplifier is not a complete piece of crap, you could then just use a DMM as well. Just set it at 80% of its rated power. Not like you'll hear a difference anyways. If your amp is jack crap and can't do 80% then you shouldn't use it. The last time this came up I tried to think of a time and use for it and couldn't where there wasn't an easier or better way whether for noob or experienced user. You can use a dmm and set it at 80% of the rated power but if you are starting out to "compete" on a low budget you could use this. It's fool-proof and easy as hell, even a 5 year old could do it. Some amps are jackshit, but people still use them.. You can't control what amp people should buy. You are right, there are little occasions where this is the best solution, but there are some.

Not only burning up coils will break a driver. It's a easy way to set the gains, no need to buy a o-scope and know how to use it. Maybe it's not 100% clip free in some situations, but normally it should. And if it's used the way it should be used it is not gonna blow things up. About the red part, you can also say that about a o-scope gain setting

I think the pricing is spot on. The extra 10 bucks isn't that much, if i would be in the market for that kind of sub i would buy it. Not only do you have a great woofer, you get great customer service too. Not really something you get from DD, and DD costs almost double..

You won't hear a noticeable difference if you only change out the driver. If you build a new box and buy the driver you will hear a difference.(if the box is well designed..)

It depends how much you know about car audio, if you are very carefull with the equipment or not. But general 2400 will not blow it, but sometimes people can blow it with a smaller amp.

Stetsom is known for making bulletproof amps if u stay above 1 ohm. They can handle low voltages quite good and will supply enough power at 1 and 2 ohm, they are very efficient amps.

Dear Mr. M5, This tool measures DISTORTION. Yes it takes a lot of power to build a real time analyzer to measure distortion. That is what it does, that is why it works. Dirty power that your system can handle for a burp, but still more power. For a regular system, to set your gains properly you should use an O scope. This product is designed to replace the O scope (for gain setting purposes). EDIT: i find it intresting that it's easy to talk shit behind someone's back, but once you see/hear him it stops.
