    Welcome to the IHoP

if your talking about where setting your welder in relation to the edges that you are trying to weld together. then i believe you place it at a 45degree angle pointing towards the middle of the thicker metal. if that didn't make sense then i'll show a picture, i can't think of how to explain it in words. thats my 2 cents, then again you probably don't care what i say whether it's true or not. but i tried. Penetration depth... ahh, okay. i have no clue then. sorry my mistake

    Welcome to the IHoP

I have found several compacts that are very fun to drive, especially given their power-to-weight ratio. The only thing I've ever dislike was the torque steer.l my dad got a gti autobahn recently that is a lot of fun to drive, it replaced his cooper-s which was also good for some laughs too. fwd isn't always your worst enemy, just most of the time. my dad has a El Camino with a 504 in it, thats fun to ride in.. he won't let anyone else drive it. not even my mom who pretty much paid for 60%+ of everything that went into it. and she's a way better driver then him in everyway.. cept donuts, my dads pretty good at those in that thing. Good at those in that thing? Is he still in high school too? jeez. besides my horrible last sentence, i don't see what the problem with doing donuts are? i've only seen him do them once. i see people (adults) do them all the time in they're rigs aswell. once again, they're just having fun. By saying someone is good at something it implies they do it regularly and the only people I know that do donuts regularly are high school kids. Stop typing like a tard it is annoying. k. i saw him doing this donut 2 years ago, and it was the only time i've seen him do a donut. considering he has been my step-dad for 16 years, and it was the only time. i would say he doesn't do it too often. maybe he just got lucky. would you please get off my case already, you don't seem to appreciate anything i say and just find something to give me crap about. quit saying i'm being immature when your not being the best example.

no +1 for sharing, way to be a douche bag i was sharing the music! and i can only fit so many people in my car. we even tried squeezing the sub that i had when teh fire drill went off in my car! he threatened my friend that if he didn't gtfo he was gonna tell the real teacher that he was swearing, cheating, throwing chit (yes he said chit), punched a whole in teh wall (the sub accidently put a hole in the wall during class =]). but then the fire drill was over in the middle of his sentence Even worse on the douche side since you are bragging about being one. i was just having some fun! first time with my system for over 2 months, with the second day of actually getting to blast it after letting it warm back up. whats the whole point in having a loudish system if you aren't gonna blast it so other people can hear it? i'm still kinda in that "new sub/first system" stage, i get a little giddy everytime i can show it off. and that was a good time to show off. sorry to enjoy it yourself? Thanks for giving the people who actually have matured a bit a bad name. douche. i enjoy it loud. anyways i'm done trying to explain myself. i don't think i was doing anything wrong, you can't make everyone happy.

  7. i'm leanin towards the 2 15" icons. that's if you want insanely stupid loud. but that will give you pretty good music too. if you don't care about how it sounds too much, go 2 15 BL's. either way you'll be really happyyy

I realllly don't like hearing other peoples music. I can deal with it in traffic when the person is passing by without to much of a problem, but when the vehicle is stationary and I can't move out of the range of hearing its a pain in the ass. I don't like other people hearing my music. Plus I'm sure those "jealous fingers" weren't that at all, but rather "turn it down, idiot" fingers. i talked to some of the ones that gave the fingers. they said they were jealous that we were nice and toasty and they were freezing. ehh we all listen to pretty much teh same music. well all the kids that were looking. except they're all more mainstream music then anything. and i wasn't playin mainstream. then theres always that group of kids that have theyre own secluded sections of the commons, they dress really... oddly. and they like screamo music. and they talk crap about every kid that isn't in they're little group.. they didn't appreciate me too much. then again i'm not really sure because they were "acting like there was really a fire" a couple played dead and layed on the (dirt/snow/mud) ground while the rest "dragged them from the burning school." atleast that's what it looked like.
  12. yea i used common sense and a little trial and error and figured that polarity one out. and thanks for all your help John! means alot!
  13. in the pinned topic, it says "Gain Setting Equation Voltage of the output = sqrt(RMS Power X impedance of the speaker)" i have a 2ohm DVC sub, so is my impedance 2ohms? or 4ohms? (2[dvc]*2ohms) or 1ohms because i'm putting it as a 1 ohm load onto my sub? the DVC is what throws me off here, the thread doesn't specify whether it matters or not. it also says to stick the positive and negative into the amp terminal... well my amp has 4 (2 of each polarity) terminals, should i use the negative from one set, adn the postive from the other? ex) A+ and B-? or ex) A+ and A-? thats my amp.

    some random questions/thoughts

Question: 1) enclosure size, i'm about to build a box for my 12" Q, and the recommendations on Fi website say 1.8-2.5 cuft. what will the different box size sound like between 1.8cuft and 2.5cuft? like a general rule of thumb would be nice 2) i have been playing with my amp settings lately (for my first time) and i notice that there is pretty much no output when the gains are as minimal as they'll go. is that normal? same with bass boost, theres a pretty large change between 0db-16db. but mainly i'm just worried about my gains. i can't seem to find what my sub sounds like clipping. maybe i'm hearing it but it's not what i think it is. 3) without using any settings on my midrange/tweeter ("highs") amp. how can i use my HU to set the "highs" so they don't play the lower (80 or so, down) frequencies? i tried using my HPF on my HU and i played with it a little bit, and noticed that it doesn't play those low notes as well when i have it set to 80-125hz. but it still plays them. my midrange speakers are fairly cheap (no idea what kind, they came with the car when i got them. i do know they're aftermarket) and they hate those low notes, so i want to get arid of it as much as i can. any help would be much appreciated!! 4) on my headunit, there is a "SW Settings 1 & 2" in Settings 2, there are 2 options i can modify, it looks like "SW: [50 through 125]hz [-26 through +6]. how should this be set? there is obviouse change in the second option, but with the "50 through 125hz" option i don't notice much of a difference in the sub playing on pretty much any tone.

    some random questions/thoughts

    1) so i don't think there is a meter in my town, nor has there ever been one. (i live in teh capital of Alaska, but the only way in and out of town is by plane or boat either way it's 2/6 hours outta here.) so for someone just starting in car audio like me and all of my friends. we have no idea what 140+ or i'm sure 130+ db sounds like.. how can you explain it to some noobs so we can get a guess as to what were hitting with our subs? 2) how do i know about what htz my music is hitting, i mainly listen to hip-hop/rnb/rap. a very even mix of all. and i was just readin in another thread that pretty much rap and really heavy bass songs are higher bass hits.. well how high? and how low is a common low? basically my issue here is my 12" fi Q, its sealed now and i'm gonna go ported to try something knew. figure out what i like.. and idk where to tune it, and/or what it will handle and sound decent with. 3) i had more that kept coming up but when i try and think of them ig ot nothin.. ill post wheni can think of them. anyone feel free to ask random questions here.

    Tuning my amp

tommy, i got a 12" Q too, and i wanted to go ported @ 32hz around 2-2.5cuft would you mind sending me your dimensions? so i have an idea, i really don't know where to start with this. also how does it sound with the lows? by lows i'm talkin low 30's? right now i have mine in a 1.5 sealed, it sound great with 40+ but the "lows" just aren't cutting it for me. what was your temp box cuft? sorry for askin so many questions, i'm just trying to figure out what i might like here.

I know I have a car audio addiction when......

from my own life.. when... you get excited everytime you get new music just so you can hear how it sounds in your car. when... your 18 years old, driving is a teenagers life, you stop driving for 2 months. and the day you can drive again all you want to do is sit in your car and feel that bass. no to mention i spent 75% of saturday (the first day driving) messing around with my sub/amp and tuning it again now that i kind of know how.

it doesn't look too bad, considering what happened. but wow that would be scary for your POV. i could just imagine that slow mo in my mind. then i could just imagine 60+ as the speed you were going when you went in there.. if i read it right? that could've gone very very badly. glad your alright.

hahaha when i totalled my first car, 98 corolla. i last thing i thought was "i hope the airbag doesn't hurt" everyone of my friends that got hit by one says it sucks horribly. i felt fine. the worst part was the smell after. it's like that new car smell.

    Welcome to the IHoP

today about 15 minutes before lunch, somebody pulled the fire alarm. so everyone had to leave the school. well luckily most of the classes cause you to go out the front main entrance of the school. into the teacher parking lot. well i had the privilege to have my car park in handicap parkin right there with the teachers. i had a cast on my leg and my cripple pass goes untill the end of april =]. not to mention i started driving on saturday after 2 months. anywayssss it was 23 degrees outside, without wind chill, adn there was a steady 5-10 mph wind chill going on. and everyone except me and 4 of my lucky friend was outside being miserable. we all loaded in my car and i got to blast my system and turn some heads. granet it's only a 12" Q sealed. but it does the job fairly well. and i put all of the windows 1/4 way down so everyone can enjoy my music. +1 for sharing?? needless to say i got a bunch of jealous fingers.. and the administrators didn't like it too much. i talked to the principle after (she's really chill and laid back) she said that she wants a system like mine for her own car, and she was being completely serious. so i might be building a system for my principle here soon. p.s. it was nice to show off after 2 months of MIA, plus i'm one of ehh 10 or so kids at my school with a decent system, i think i'm the only one without a RF/Alpine/Kicker/all other big [pathetic] name brands. and i think mine hits harder then theres of equal size. i can't wait to go ported next week!!!
