  1. I just recently picked up a 98 F150 extended cab PU, and I have always been curious as too if there is an ideal amount of cone area vs cab space available? I am only planning on putting what ever i can fit in the place behind the drivers seat, so i have room for 2 people to still sit in the back. But i wasn't sure (if i could get it to fit) if 2 10's/12's in a daily ported box? At this point, it is just an idea but i am thinking about an Xcons. I'm looking for more SQ with some output when i really want to turn it up. anyone have experience in a small cab space? I picture that much cone area in such a small cab space to be sloppy sounding. My last rig was a single 12" Q ported in a 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it sounded buttery smooth. I know sub, box, tuning is all dependent on how it sounds, but as a general idea I imagine a very sloppy, over whelming bleh sound.

Extended cab trucks - TOO much cone area?

so by "lower" you mean height wise? that's an interesting thought, I kinda wanted my port and driver pointing out the side towards the passenger side, but i dont want to have it blasting right in the people in the back seats' face. I don't know if there would be room to do port and driver down firing, what if i did driver up/port down? for some reason i don't picture that working mechanically at all.

Extended cab trucks - TOO much cone area?

haha thanks, I was getting a little worried myself that people didn't know how to read. btw, got any pictures or videos of your setup? I'm having crazy withdrawals from my old jeep and i was really close to putting a 15" btl in there but i had to turn around and sell it? my only dilemma is with this is that I'm unsure if i can remove just the seat behind the drivers seat, or if its mounted all as one bench even though its split 70/30. I was just planning on folding the seat down, and have the sub mounted on top of the seat. Do you think it would be worth having it down fire off of the seat? it would be on somewhat hard plastic (with the seat folded down/open) and i just picture that absorbing all the sound and not allow the waves to bounce off of it very well

Extended cab trucks - TOO much cone area?

ahh, yes. That is exactly how i feel about it. I have heard 2 different trucks with a system, but only one from the inside and it was a while ago. I couldn't pin point what i didn't like about it, but I believe this sums it up. I'll definitally be upgrading the speakers, so hopefully that will fulfill my satisfaction. I think I'm just going to go with a single 12" as i'm sure that will fill in plenty of the lows at half power with the ability to crank it if i wanted too. Now the question is, which way to face the sub and/or port. I heard down firing in trucks is pretty succesful, but I don't have to do that if I choose not too, i have plenty of space in each direction. Time to do some research! Anyone have personal experience having the same setup in multiple different ways to compare?

DROP IN TEST DD vs. Fi

what does the term "clamped" mean? i picture it meaning where they are both measured and held at a constant amount of power? i.e. 3k watts steady?

    any results yet?
  10. they had it locked on to show just the highest db hit, so idk what i made on tones. my sweet spot is somewhere between 40-45hz but i hit 135.7 with my single 12" FI Q w/ BP Option, powered by SAE 1000D my first box, tuned to 31hz playing the opening of Tortilla Chips by T.Bizzy. mic on driver side dash, passenger door half down. in a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. sub and port facing back hatch nothing fancy in here. i know when i bought it i was curious of some numbers, i know it's not made for SPL but i was somewhat impressed with what it did.
  11. long story short. stupid on my part. but i am in the process of getting a thing built so i can hold my box and amp down, without having to screw into the seat or false floor. so for the time being it is freely hanging out in the back of my jeep. the sub slides around alot, the amp barely moves. well saturday night i was driving around with frineds, and went to a part of town i rarely go too, and witht he fresh snow on the ground i didn't see a speed bump (no signs...) well i hit it and i looked int he reiw view mirror, i saw my sub slide, but not really go in the air. i heard my tool box fly up, and i'm assuming my amp did too, as they were by eachother. after it landed, no more sub i turned the car off and turned it back on to see if it will get off protection mode. it did, and then it would randomly cut out in a song, whether the sub is hitting or not.. i thought it was just too much power so i turned the volume down and listened to it at low volumes, then i realised that it seemed to only cut out when i turn. and i don't mean slight turns. but like if i was to turn into a driveway, it would go into prot mode. or a slight bump would cause it. even if i have no music playing, it would do that. do i need to send it in? or can i do something myself. fusees are fine, i haven't opened up yet, frankly i'm a little scared haha, but i wanted to get some idea's before i check it out myself... idea's? questions? i'd put my detailed info up but i'm in a rush now. quick details are: 2001 Jeep Grand cherokee Limited V8 134 stock amp SAE 1000D 1 12" Fi Q @ 1 ohm 2.1 cuft ported box @ 31hz stock battery big 2 of 3 done. (amp to bat +, bat - to chassis.

    sub cut out placement

shizzzon mentioned not to put it so close to the port hole because it might cause phasing issues, so that is why i mentioned between A and B but closer to A. here are my specs my baffle is 23.25 inches wide, minus the radius of my ID cut, 5.85 gives me about 17.4 inches to work with. for specifics, somebody want to give me a rough length to put the sub from either side of my enclosure. also, how much room is there to play with when cutting the hole for the sub? i plan on using a jigsaw this time, and i wanted to know how precise i had to be, should i cut a little on the inside to be safe? or is it just a matter or making a nice clean circle or not?

    sub cut out placement

where is the optimal placement for the sub cut out. i went a head and am building a box for my single 12"Q. and it's just a basic little 2.36cuft @ 31.69hzported box. i got to thinking before am going to make my cut out for the sub. should i put the sub closer to the port? or dead center? or away from the port? what are the advantages and disadvantages of each? and what would you recommend? also the sub cut out should be at 11.7 inches right? on the website i got that from the cut ID number. thanks guys

    sub cut out placement

this is the kind of response i was looking for, thanks for all your input guys! shizzzon, i posted a topic a week or so ago hoping you'd jump in it, but i was asking for a box deisgn, something similar to the one you put in.. when i get home i'll put a picture up of the RE calculator i used to design my box with dims. so basically you guys think i should go somewhere between A and B but closer to A? thanks fo rthe input. hey shizzzon, if i sent you a PM later, would you be able to help me design a nice box for most likely the BTL or Xcon i get in the near future?

    sub cut out placement

paint ftw so by interior opening your talking about the opening above B correct? anyways this is roughly what my box is, minus 3 subs. but where would be the best place to make the cut out?! a distance from either end would be nice if it had to be that specific. thanks guys

    sub cut out placement

bumpppppp i need this answered so i can finish my box please

    i've been thinking, need answers

i know it's always install dependent. but i just want some straight up answers, hopefully answers with some experience behind them. but i was planning on getting 2 (12's or 15's) btl's. and just work my way up to the setup i want as money allows. but i don't want to have to upgrade my alternator and all my electrical other then the basics, like big3, deep cycle bat, yadda yadda. and if i was to get the BTL's i wouldn't give them the 4000ish watts they deserve.... so i started to think about the BL @ 1000w rms. how much of a difference will be if i get 2 BL's at ~2000w vs 2 BTL's @ ~2000w (i'm thinkin around 2000 so i wont have to upgrade electrical) would the BL's perform a little better output wise then the BTL's, considering all the variables like install, box size, song/note being played. any input is welcome. what i honestly want to be able to do, is shut up EVERYONE in town with the mainstream brands. not all of them are bad but they are all crazy about orion HCCA or P3's around here. but i don't want just strict SPL. i just want a groundpounder i suppose. i'm gonna be updating my sig here hopefully after i post this if i don't get side tracked. i got a new car and different stuff.. so ignore that untill it has a 2001 grand cherokee as my vehicle. let me know if you want any other info, i'm thinking keeping around the middle box volume that FI recommends for either sub @ 31-32hz

    i've been thinking, need answers

no they were braggin about a RF P3. and M5, i have a 135amp stock alt? i'd still have to upgrade after big 3 and all? yes the box's will be built correctly to the best of my abilities so for clearification, 2 BTL's on 2000w total will be louder then 2 BL's on 2000w total. if that is true, then what are the benifits of having a BL over a BTL? better "SQ" or just price?

    Attn: box design enthusiasts

yea i didn't mean with the Q. he said his friend hit that with a 15".. i want to get 2 15" BTL's.. i'm kind of leaning towards 12's. i can't decide if it will be worth the upgrade. nobody in town has 2 15's. not that i know of at least, and everyone know's everyone here. theres people with 2 12's. and my cousin has 3 10's. any input on which i should go with.. i just want a ground pounder and also maybe make a seperate box for comps? obviously 15's would be louder, but is it worth losing pretty much all the trunk space
  20. i have a 12" FI Q w/ BP option in a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. powered by a SAE 1000D @ 1ohm. right now it's in a 1.5cuft (external before displacements) enclosure that i had the (horribly stupid) local audio shop make for me. i was short on time. i'll let you know dimensions of the room i have to work with. but there is basically as much room as you could ever need for a single 12. or i want it ported tuned to anywhere close to 32hz. so yea, have fun, keep in mind this is my first box. and i don't want it to be over (i believe) 16 inches. i just want it to stay below my rear window level. thank you so much i know it's not really hard. it's just a temp box to get some practice in before i get a couple 12 or 15 BTL's

    Attn: box design enthusiasts

sounds perfect =] any way i could get the specs on the box? i'm going for daily though, if i could get those numbers that would be amazing. we finally got a local shop in town to get a TL so we can have some comps. the first comp here, the winner won with a 147 with 1 hcca 18". i know i could beat that no problem. everyone in town has a massive hardon for orion, so i just want to blow them all up with some Fi love.

    New setup

well i would think, if you stillw ant your sub to perform at the potiential it would if you were to use volume 27. just do the whole thing, but instead of setting to 27, set it to what you normally listen too. aka 23 or 24. just my 2cents, hopefully shizzzon will come correct me. but if it was me, i would just do what i said.

    new system, time to upgrade

i thought about it, but my intentions are for alot more output, not just a little more. i want more of a ground pounder.. daily use, loud setup. and i kind of want to get FI known up here in Alaska for the SPL side. my friends like how clean my Q sounds but they don't believe me that it can put out some great numbers too. thats what i'm aiming for.

    new system, time to upgrade

so i finally decided the Q isn't quiet enough for me now a days. i need something bigger. so i just have some questions for you guys.. right now i have a 12" Q powered by a SAE 1000D. i am debating whether to get 1 15" or 2 12"s. i'm looking for which ever has the better output. now obviously the best out put would be out of two 12"s. but money is pretty tight, and i don't want to upgrade all my electrical if i don't have too. i was thinking about just getting 1 12" for now, selling my Q, and running 1 12" off my SAE. how will that sound? will ~1200w make the BTL happy? (daily use) then when money comes along i want to get the second 12" and then eventually the amp. i was thinking the 3000D. but would i have to upgrade my electrical from stock 2001 Jeep grand cherokee limited V8 for it? the stock amp is 132amps. i'm gonna get a deka under the hood sometime too, but also would you recommend a second battery? i don't want to upgrade the alt if i don't have too. so basically whats the minimum wattage that will make the BTL's get nice and loud and make them happy. and whats the max my stock system can handle with a deka or 2. the big question for me here. would i get more output from 1 15" BTL off ~2000watts or 2 12"s off 1000~1500watts and if it's the 12"s, is it worth the wait??
