    new weird sound

I would suggest next time you build within specs and problems like these wont arise, when a box is too small it will make the sub sound real "peaky" (thats probably what you have going on over there.

    01 Grand am Setup Help!

The 200Amp alternator is the biggest you will probably fine for your car and it will be fine just make sure you get you a backup battery.
  4. Usually when dealing with two different brands of batteries or playing with the car off a relay/isolator is needed.

    Audio Control

The main reason why you arent getting any lows is because of the box tuning, your box is built for spl. An epic-160 does add some intense low notes I just dont know how it will do with a fairly high tuned box, only used one on boxes tuned to the 30's so I cant comment (I think it should still do the same trick as you can adjust the frequency range). If all you want is some extra lows withouth buildind a new box then the Epic-160 may be for you. the only problem is on real intense bass songs it can cause over excursion in your subwoofers.

    Audio Control

Nobody complains about there equipment and my epic center-160 is a good device to have but in the wrong hands it can do some damage. Everything is gonna have its pros and cons, you just need to find out whats right for you. What do you feel is lacking in your system, what else are you trying to achieve? How is your system not cutting it for you? Those type of questions need to be answered, did you read all the information on the devices you are interested in(when you do then come back with questions about that product and the advantage or disadvantage it could have in your set-up)?

Will an 18" BTL be ok in 4.7 cubes?

Why because of vibrations, man your whole car vibrates due to subs or streets. Just put some rubber pads under the feets of the amp and you will be ok, I to have done so for years with no problems from my amps besides user error. I think 5ft^3 is small for an 18" but if thats what you want to put it in then ok, I would go with 6ft^3 (after displacements for an 18") and put a 15" in less than 6ft^3 but Im no expert. I know they recommend 5ft^3, Im just not a fan of putting a subwoofer in the smalles sized box, when you could get better performance from a 15" in its optimum enclosure.

    New subs, enough power?

Please stop making a topic where you have the same info in a post in another topic. Throw away the Batcap battery or sell it, get the biggest batteries you can (2 of them) and the biggest alternato r you can and a voltmeter and go from there. You wont know until you get everything installed, then go from there.

    help designing enclosure

I want the vibrations to rattle my chest, does that mean I want it to be tuned low? I figure lower frequencies cause more vibrations, right? Is the lvl 4 DC sub capable of being tuned to 30 hz? or would it damage it? If I can I'd like to have some slight angles in my box, is there a formula for figuring out the tuning frequency for a slotted port? is it relative to length? to cubic feet inside the port? Dude your gonna feel(rattles in your chest, whatever that means) no matter what you tune it ass. Once you get to a certain db level your body will feel what the subs putting out no matter the Hz level(just pick one and move on). Yes 30hz will work on that sub, just depens on your preference. The length determines the tuning frequency, height times width determines the port area in inches^2 (12-16in^2 per cubic foot of internal volume).

28-30Hz for sledgehammer, down-right ridiculous lows 30-35Hz for daily driving and good lows 35hz and higher more geared towards SPL I would suggest between 30-35HZ for your tuning.

Looks good, sometimes you gotta give the consumer what they want and let them enjoy it until they eventually come back wanting more.

Are you serious, explain this one to me so I can have an understanding. Or email Jacob(from Sundown Audio) so he can be aware of the problem and if its not true then dont throw false info around.

    01 Grand am Setup Help!

Give us better information like what subwoofer version did you get? No Kicker amp since they are expensive and have a set sub sonic filter which may cause you problems down the road, no Hifonics since it will cause you problems down the road. Try to find a alternator between 150-200A. What other equipment will you be running in your car? Get KnuKonceptz wire, its bigger and cheaper. Your not going to have enough stock power to run any amp above 1500rms.
  15. Ok now is it true that the stiffer the box is the louder the box is? Redo your signature so you wont be confusing anybody, some people have signature on and may be going off what they see down below. Yes a stiffer, best built box will be louder ( a piece of shit loose box will cause air leaks and all kinds of problems). Where are these qustions coming from man? Search for an answer before asking us, it will save some time and help you by learning.

what is 100 watts a channel really like?

Naw its just that many people on this forum believe all you need is a true 2 or 3-way front stage with good amount of power as all the interior speakers. Speakers in the rear deck can be thrown out if you are going to throw subwoofers into the car and I agree with this, gotten great results from that simple step. Then you do have some people who just want it balls out loud and speakers in front and rear doors like a surround sound style (instead of speakers in front of you like your in a concert and there singing at you). If the results from this forum werent what you were looking for then still pursue your goal and do it the way you want because it is your vehicle. Just know that in order to have a truly SQ car a 2-way or 3-way front stage is all you need.

    18" Fi Q in a Focus Hatchback

The Phase is on O also, the Bass EQ is on 0db, Sub Sonic Filter set around 0-10 Hz lower than box tuning and Low Pass on 80 or lower, maybe a little higher whatever you preference.

    18" Fi Q in a Focus Hatchback

Level knob is the Gain (.2 v to 9 volts), so you were just turning things and getting sound but not knowing that you had a gain and wondering why it was playing? Just so you wont mess anything up, turn the Bass EQ knob on O db. On your headunit make sure your LoudButton or feature is OFF.

    18" Fi Q in a Focus Hatchback

Since you said they dont have a Term Lab Meter its an unkown meter than its probably off and there is no telling by how much, but in that box and on that much power I heavily doub it. There are to many factors as to how big is the box, what is it tuned to, what vehicle is it in, etc.
  23. That sig is super old dont pay attention to it. So do you think 2 batts is enough for the 4k2d? Get the biggest alternator you can, start buy buying two off the biggest batteries you can get and buy a volt meter. Once you have everything installed, check your voltage and if you have voltage drops then your gonna need more batteries (nobody knows exactly how many you need or if they will hold up or not).

    18" Fi Q in a Focus Hatchback

Regardless if someone had the same setup as you, yall wont be hitting the same numbers (different cars do different things). Im not giving you shit and Im not criticizing you just answering your questions (if they are hurting your feelings or making you feel small than thats a personal problem). To set gains correctly buy a DMM (digital multi-meter) like I said earlier and go under the Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical section and click on- How To: Set Your Amplifier Gain and follow the instructions.
  25. Your gonna need alot more than two batteries with what you have in your signature.
