  1. ended up trading my kicker kx2500.1 for a pair of aq hdc3 18s. thanks for the suggestions!
  2. It's time for something new, and I'm thinking that I'd be better off buying a pair of more efficient, daily oriented 18's than buying a second 9518g and underpowering it with 2k each. My amp is a Memphis 4kw, and I'm looking for a pair of 18's along the lines of a Level 4 XL, Death Penaltys, Fi BLs, Nightshades... something like that. I don't compete, so I just want loud to the ear. How would these type of subs compare to a pair of 9518g's on only 2k each, and does anyone know of someone selling 1 or 2 of these 18's?

    12" fi q vs. 12" fi bl

i went from a pair of q 15's on a crossfire vr2000d to a pair of bl 15's in the same box. had about 1100 watts per sub on that amp. the q's were about the same, or a little louder. once i put an american bass vfl 200.1 on the bls though and gave them about 1800 a piece, they really came alive.
  4. Thinking I'm going to pick up a pair of copper coil HDC3 18's, found a great deal on em. The copper ones will handle 2k each without a sweat right?
  5. bump. Also considering some HDC3's.

    Prototype Big Boy SPL Motor

    that motor just made me
  7. i currently have a us acoustics USA4050 (50x4 @ 4 ohms) running my mids and tweets active, and it just isnt enough power for them. my mids are 8 ohm coils. unless i find a good deal on a big power, small footprint amp, i'll be picking up either a USA4080 (80x4 @ 4, 240x2 4 ohm bridged) or a USA2150 (2x150 @ 4 ohm) to run the mids, and bridge the 4050 to my tweets. how would those 2 options compare efficiency wise? the 4080 bridged would run the 8 ohm mids with a lot more headroom than the 2150 right? how does running 2 amps for my mids/tweets compare in efficiency to running one big amplifier with dual power supplies, along the lines of a DD S4 or a zuki eleets? any zed amps up around 150x4?

usa 4080 bridged or 2150 for 8 ohm mids?

i found a deal on a USA2200, the skinny one without the fan. gonna sleep on it, but i'll probably pick that up to run my mids with the 4050 bridges on my tweets. would fit into the space i have to work with... i'm a little concerned about the heat though.

would a usa2200, with no fan, the skinnier version, run really hot without good ventilation?

usa 4080 bridged or 2150 for 8 ohm mids?

creative sdx7, single 8 ohm coils. basically a bigger, badder adire extremis. http://www.solen.ca/pdf/css/sdx7.pdf

usa 4080 bridged or 2150 for 8 ohm mids?

i've had another person say the same thing, could i ask why? in theory, wouldnt it do around 75-100x2 @ 8 ohms, as opposed to the 160x2 id get from bridging the 4080? i'm thinking about digging my old crossfire vr602 out tomorrow and trying to find room for it. the only zed amp i have right now is the usa4050.

Yes, the dark grey heat sink models with the black and red logo in the middle. i have a usa4050 right now bridged on my alumapro components, still passive. have a usa4080 on the way, going to bridge the 4050 to a pair of creative sdx7 8 ohm mids and use the 4080 for dayton reference mids/tweets in the a-pillars. that 4050 gets pretty damned hot to the touch bridged on my components, is this normal? thinking about picking up a second 4080 so it will maybe run more efficient and cooler. i LOVE the sound of it. with my crossfire vr602 i always had a little bit of feedback, really low hissing i could hear with the deck turned all the way down. its dead silent now, no ground change or anything, just swapped amps.
  14. nice... are the prices on the website firm? eta on the 21?

    video - 2 loaded bl 15's on a vfl 200.1 @ .5 ohm

got the amp slightly used for 600. also have a vfl 500.1 but i'm probably going to sell it without ever using it, this 200.1 has plenty of power at .5 ohm, i think i need a bigger battery though.
  17. dropped it to .5 ohm today and holy chit... only have the 2 videos that i made today with it at that load, this one and the one where my cd player is skipping all over the place. http://s204.photobucket.com/albums/bb197/1...nt=SNC10101.flv

heres some of the roof flex.
  19. about to drop in a pair of d2 bl 15's loaded for daily to replace my d1 q's (to go a little easier on my american bass vfl 200.1, thing smoked on me before and cost over 300 to fix) in 8.2 cubes @ 32 hz. was pushing the q's to their limits, about 1300 watts each, and raising the load to 1.4 ohms (3kw at 1 ohm) i'll probably be giving the bl's about the same power, maybe a tad more. can i expect the bl's to be louder across the board? will they still pick up the lows as well as the q's did or will i need more power to get that low end extension?

    Amp for a SS RL-p15

i was actually really surprised how efficient they are. i just ported my pair of 12's in my trans am, and it was INSANE with my crossfire vr2000d, like unbearable. if i had to guess i'd say upper 140's. screwed that amp up after about 5 minutes of play time, had it mounted to the box and it started making a high pitched noise so i pulled it, and hooked up my diamond d5 600.2 component amp to them. they only see 300 watts each now, and they still pound. i doubt i lost anymore than 2 or 3 decibals. before they were getting about 1kw each.

dual 12's, trans am ported box build *PICS*

almost done. everything is cut, drilled and countersunk, the clamps are on and glue is drying now. going to glue the last couple pieces tomorrow, silicone the next day, should have it in the car in 3 days. hell of a lot more work than i was expecting, i think i've got 7 or 8 days into it. granted i work off and on, work a couple hours, take a break, toke some reefer, drink a few beers, play some games, work a couple more hours, etc. probably only got 4 or 5 hours a day into it, and i had to redesign the angle on it and recut a few pieces so that added a couple days to it. check back for finished pics, would take em now but its dark and my camera sucks in the dark.
  23. decided to get the ball rolling on this ported box, so i ordered the ports, bought the mdf, finished the plans and got cracking. started building today, thought i'd share a few pics. im planning on having 2 4 inch flared ports firing at the driver and passengers heads. just test fitting here, actually wont block my rear glass at all with the hatch shut. basically all i got done today after i finished the plans. i did 2 of the smaller side pieces, but only attached one. this gives you an idea of the size of the ports i have to accommodate. 4 inch port my ass, its almost 7" at the widest point of the flare. this is without the box in. going to see where it sits with it in, then drop the front to match. looks goofy all high like this, i know.

    Discolored cone on Rl-p

its aluminum, i'd assume you could just take the paint off and polish it like any other metal. only problem will be the edges, where the surround attaches to it. you're stuck either leaving some black paint at the edges, or tearing your surround all up, probably screwing the woofer up trying to polish it up the edge.
