  1. Wow!!

I think the shipping calculator got fed some incorrect information.

I was in the process of ordering several decals for my Grand Prix. I had added the SSAudio windshield banner, the Evil inside and speaker nerd decals all without any issues. Then I added the "Let the bass drop" decal and the shipping came back at over $21 for that one decal.

I'm not any sort of expert in anything but something tells me that something is a little off to be charging that much for a 5" x 5" vinyl sticker. Unless maybe it's an entire case of them or something, and if that was the situation I'd gladly pay it, lol.

So, right, wrong?  Something's fishy, right?

Trying to have great output, great SQ, and minimal space used.

Hoffmans iron law is going to force you to give up a little bit of one of those goals.

The SSA ICON is definitely at the top of the list for recommendations, it's a proven solid performer for the goals you stated.   Measurements are going to be key before any real serious suggestions will be relavent though. Hopefully maybe you can measure the current enclosure which would get things in the ballpark at least.

Move a lot of air?how big is your port and what are you tuned too? And that's crazy, 10's in the doors. :)

It's definitely rare, though the forum has a member that started with 10's and switched up to 12's in the doors of a Honda, Civic I believe. The drivers were all Aura NS series woofers.

I have a set in ported enclosures which Bill did listen to. Mine are tuned around 66-67 hz, I also have a set in my 4runner IB. Both applications sound very good.

Also with a little top end eq the evil sounds very good full range to.

I don't doubt it, it's got great extension on the top end.

How's the midbass in the enclosure?  I would imagine it murders the IB setup.

How much weight did you end up using on each of your pr's

Sorry, missed this in the recents list.

I honestly don't know for sure, I never measured it. It ended up using a two or two and a half inch long 3/8" bolt and about eight or ten 3/8" washers.

It doesn't really matter because I just added weight until I achieved the desired tuning.

Honestly can't even remember where I first heard of SSA, word of mouth for sure. I've wanted evils for a long time but just now got around to ordering one.

    Welcome to the forum!

That's a hell of a sub you chose!

  7. I sure wish I hadn't decided to delete Aaron's quote to me explaining the difference between the two when I asked the same question trying to decide what to get for my Jimmy.

Basically he said that the ICON can deliver lots of solid low end response, resulting in lots of smiles and that the XCON is similar but with a stronger more direct impact. He went on to describe them in terms of heavy artilery. The ICON being the shockwave you feel from the explosion and the XCON is the missile straight to the head.

Damnit I sure wish I still had that quote, the way he said it was awesome.

  8. There's a good chance you won't need the relay. Most DSP units have the remote wire to them first to delay the amps turning on to eliminate turn on pop/bump. So far the ones I've seen that have the feature power the remote out from the supplied constant 12v powering them and have higher current capacity than the HU remote.

I don't know much about your particular unit so I would suggest double checking the manual or emailing the manufacturer to be certain in your case.

If it doesn't have that feature then the relay is a great way to get it done.

  9. Sorry to hear about the breakup, even when they go well they still suck.

I am glad that you still have the subs but it sucks that you never got to use them.

I hope you can get something rolling too, no one should be bassless, lol.

On another note, I'm working in Evansville now so I might be able to help out with some things.

  10. I have a Zapco Studio Digital series ST-4D running the Bravox CS603CF bridged in the Traverse. It's a strong little amp that sounds very open and airy. I love the little thing and it doesn't seem to have all the limitations I hear people talking about that didn't like the sound of full range digital amps.

Sure wish you lived closer, I'd be glad to demo these VE and Zapco amps for you.
