  4. Currently i only have a need for an alternator in the low 200's (i'm looking at one at 220) for an 18" Fi BTL. My question is as follows; Is there any harm in buying an alternator that produces more amps then you need?? For example, i will probably put in another BTL in the future and i would like to just buy one 350 alternator now. So if i put a 350 or 320 alternator in my car, which only needs about 220 amps, would it cause any harm to my vehicle? Would it cause harm to my battery? Amplifier? On a side note, any of you fellas try out the Kinetic HC 3800??? Thanks!

    Fi btl 18 box design

well it's going into the back of probably an explorer sport. problem is i don't have the vehicle quite yet. I tried searching the web for some dimensions but i've failed miserably. So unofortunately i really can't give you any guesstimations of max dimensions. sorry! oh, and nice Fi BTL 18 review =] it's what convinced me to purchase my own Well Im sorry to kill your dreams but it will be hard to design a box without a vehicle, you should just wait that would be the smart thing. Well, by tomorrow i will post dimensions. A kid at my school has an explorer sport (perhaps the one i will purchase). I will get measurements soon. thanks!

    Fi btl 18 box design

So, i hate to be one of those bums that asks for help on designing a box. (help?? who am i kidding, i need full assistance) I have a Fi BTL 18 just sitting here teasing me while i earn my money for a refurbished SAZ 3000d. i thought as i was waiting, i might as well build the box. Space should not be an issue, i want this box to built for performance. It will be used for daily use. So my question is, what would you do? From my understandings, tuning at 32hz seems to be the mostly desired tuning frequency. Alternator and batteries are all taken care of, just down to the box. SO! if space was not an issue (cause its not! =] ), what would your box design be for a Fi BTL 18 with the hixm coil and cooling options for a kick butt daily driver? and replies are greatly appreciated!!

    Fi btl 18 box design

Okay so i some advice an advisor gave another postee. so i will follow his advice. I Listen to all kinds of music; and i say that honestly. I just want really deep bass that can finally satisfy my bass need. Honestly, i have absolutely NO idea what this will sound like. My current system is pretty low performance and i've never heard a high performance system before. I probably wan't the box to be a little more aimed towards rap music. here, if it helps at all, these are the 5 most listened artists on my itunes: AC/DC John Lee Hooker Ludacris Muddy Waters Louis Armstrong Like i said, i like my music diverse. I do study music and music theory quite a bit so that has alot to do with it. BUT, i do want this system to be mostly based towards rap and still obviously a high bass system in everything else, if that's at all possible.. thanks for the help all. If it wasn't for this site, i wouldn't have even ever got my BTL or the SAZ-3000d. I do plan to write a product review once all is hooked up. The BTL is a dual 2 ohm, hi xm coil, cooling, SAZ-3000d will be refurbished and pushing the 3000 watts at 1 ohm. box request= 32 hz, cubic feet= whatever you think is best =]

    BTL 18-Sundown 3000 or RF t2001bd?

So i picked up my 18 inch btl with hiXM coil and cooling options(DAILY). Now for the amp. Normally i would say that i don't have the money for the SAZ-3000D, but i found it online refurbished for the same price that i can pick up the Rockford Fosgate t2001BD from sonicelectronix. I read a post from a guy who got the refurbished SAZ-3000D and he claimed that it was functionally perfect so i wouldn't mind purchasing it. both are about $560. I plan on doing all the elcetrical upgrades necessary for either of these amps (big 3, Kinetic hc2000, high output amp, all that good stuff) now my only concern is that my sub is the dual 2 ohm and i will be running it down to 1 ohm like most. But the sub is rated at 2000wrms and the SAZ-3000D puts out 3000 watts at 1 ohm and i reallllllly don't wanna blow this BTL. The Rockford Fosgate runs at 2000 watts at one ohm. I've heard really great things about both of these amps. Anyone else got anymore advice? thanks

    Box for BTL 18

Just got my new BTL 18 with all the goodies i wanted. now for the box. I plan on building it, but it will be the first one i build. Naturally i have a few questions that i would appreciate anyone taking the time to answer. I got alot of box building info from http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com/ it seems to be legitimate information, i'm pretty sure i got the link from this site. but should the height of a box really be 1.4X the weight??? with my calculations, to get a box of 8.6 cubes BEFORE port and sub displacement, my box has the be 34 inches tall!!! (25X34X17.5) Ports brings me to my next question... are there are any performance differences in the type of port you use? RE has a handy-dandy L-shaped port calculator on their website. I can do the tuning frequency calculations, although i don't particularly like to (i'm thinking about 32Hz... it seems to be the choice among many). So square ports, cylinder shaped ports, L shaped ports, all the other ports... whats the difference? I don't plan on competing in any competitions. I just want a nice sounding system that hits hard. one last thing, i should use the thickest MDF i can get my hands on, right??? Would you say minimum of 3/4 inches thick? Lastly, for real this time, box size constraints based upon my vehicle shouldn't really be a problem. Either going into the back of a Ford Explorer sport, or a 1987 Bronco. I'm not bringing home groceries so i don't care if it takes up the whole back. Thanks guys!

    Fi BTL 18. what alternator?

well see then i woul probably loose money, right? since i would have to sell the aftermarket alt seeing as it will no way be compatible with a 1978 Bronco which is the vehicle i will get. (july 2010) the AQ 2200D also looks like an acceptable amp... thinking about hooking it up with a kinetik battery... maybe a 3112?? I see lots of lots of people using the AQ 2200D amp with the sub so i figure why not?? Hell i think i'll just start buying all the stuff and just wait till i actually own a vehicle... or not Well if you want that combo to shine at its peak in the mustang then yes. You will lose some money that way though in the resale so you are correct. If you are going to get the Bronco later and use it and the system for a while, then you should try to maximize your dollars. Try to save your money and buy stuff like power and ground cable, fuse blocks, speaker wire, and dist blocks(if needed). You dont have to worry about wasting warr time with those things. You can wait for the amps, alt, mids or tweets, and drivers later and maybe have a better budget for something you really want. Instead of something you might settle for. If you have access to the truck now you can prewire it so when you get the goodies it will be ready to go. Well i think i can get 1200 without really working any more. just selling my current subs + a guitar + like $650 in cash. so im... gettting there!! but yeah i think you got it right man.
  16. So im about to buy a daily BTL 18 with cooling, the HiXm coil, and whatever color dustcap. (any one color look awesome to you guys?) I don't have much money for an amp, only about $400 so i'll probably buy a temporary one untill i get enough money (that sundown audio stuff is WAY too expansive...). Either way it's going to be at 2000 rms. This is the only aftermarket thing on my stereo (2009 mustang w/shaker 1000). The BTL will replace two pioneer premier 12's (begginer subs only about 400 rms). From what i've read, im going to need to some electrical upgrades. The Big 3 i can do. Am i going to need a high output alternator?? and how many amps am i looking at? Is it absolutely necessary? because if it is, it's not going into my car. My car is a ford lease car from the company (dad works there) and you can absolutely not change the alternator seeing that i have to give it back to ford in a year. That's really NOT what im hoping, but if so i can wait till next year when i'll have my brothers 87 bronco at college. I need to earn more money for a better amp and a new alternator if so need be. I still would like to know how many amps my alternator must put out for this system. Please and thank you.

    Fi BTL 18. what alternator?

Why cant you put in a new alt and then when you give the car back switch it back to the stock one? If you can, take a look at Mechman. He has good prices and I see a lot of people using them. I going to hook mine up next weekend. well see then i woul probably loose money, right? since i would have to sell the aftermarket alt seeing as it will no way be compatible with a 1978 Bronco which is the vehicle i will get. Why are you running the amp at 2 ohms? well good point! i guess i'll do that.
  19. Frostedflakejake

    Fi BTL 18. what alternator?

Its gonna be powered by a hifonics BXI2610D. yeah yeah i know... get a sundown, or a memphis, or an expensive fosgate amp. BTL will be a dual 1 ohm. so the amp CLAIMS to give it like 1700 rms. ... i don't know if that helps but i thought maybe it would

    Fi BTL 18. what alternator?

measurements like width * height * depth.... so it was like... whatever inches *whatever inches* whatever inches diveded by 12 cubed to convert the units into feet. prettty sure i did that right.. ford lists the 2010 mustang as having 13.4 cubic feet of luggage space and im sure a good 80% of that is in the trunk. BUT, you are surely correct in the fact that i didn't take sub and port displacements into consideration.. either way i can get the minimum of 5 cubes at least. after removing the factory subs in their i can get another cubic foot or two.. EITHER WAY, my question is not whether one will fit, i know it will fit, i've seen it fit. and even if it doesn't fit, i have another vehicle. my question is about the alternator. please answer that, you can grill me about volume all you want, as long as you answer my alternator question
  21. Frostedflakejake

    Fi BTL 18. what alternator?

i've done the measurements. i have about 8 cubic feet of flatness and my trunk is certainly tall enough. Plus i've seen a guy with an '02 mustang with one in the trunk. it will fit

    2 BTL 18s

I'm looking at the new BTL's right now on the Fi website.. is the third magnet standard now? I've read all the tech specs on the BTL's and none of the options include a third magnet. And on the home page of all the subwoofer lines, it doesn't state the number of magents for the BTL's. It does say that the BL's have two, but nothing about the BTL's. CONFUSED!!!!!

    Fi BTL 18 Review

Thanks man, great review. I'm looking to get one of those myself. if it fits!!!! otherwise going with the 15', either way, that was one of the most helpfull reviews i've ever read on the BTL. I'm probably going to go with that amp too cause it fits into my budget =]
  24. Yeah i think im going with a 15 or 18 Fi BTL. I hope the 18 works, doing some measurements tomorrow =]
