  1. I was going to try to take one out of my stinger cap, which i don't use and probably can't even sell. But for $18 shipped, I got the blue one. I just hope it isn't as blinding as the sundown blue led on the remote bass knob :wacky:

really you think there blinding? i am using two of them and it's not to bad

They're not that bad, but sure are bright! I do most of my driving at night and usually have to squint/block the led with my hand to see where the knob is. I'm about to have two of them as well, my sax 100.4d came in yesterday. :drink40:

  2. You think that's bad, it snowed here just before xmas, was 60+ degrees the day of xmas, and then back into the mid 30's the next day. The weather here is as bad as a blonde trying to find the corner of a circular room. :puzzled:

  3. lol @ smart mexicans.. and margaritas before noon :D

I just found out I can use my droid as a usb stick on my head unit. I've been using a 1gb thumb drive to play music, but can now fill up my phone with downloaded mp3's and play them. :rocking:

  4. Well finally pulling the trigger and building a new computer.

Picked up a Core i5 today at a local store for a great price and ordered the mobo, ram, and graphics card today. Only thing I'm worried about is my power supply might not be big enough/compatible.

coming from a athlonXP it will be a huge improvement.

I happen to have a couple brand new (from last year) higher power PSU's I can sell if ya need

  5. It is snowing here in Dallas, this is crazy the first actual white Christmas here (I have had a few before). It is cray outside, Im done out running errands and in for the weekend. :santa:

It'll be in the upper 50's and rainy here on xmas day in Va Bitch, Va. Hopefully it won't rain much and I can get my big 3 done.

  6. The smart power supplies are a constant voltage powr supply. The 45 amp would work fine but if you mix different sized batteries you should charge them individually. For practical uses I would lean more towards their inteligent charger (35 amp as you put it). A high output alt should be put in however and use the charger to keep the batteries maintained..it is a handy item to have to maintain all of your 12v car batteries.

Aahh, that's exactly what I was looking for. :thanx:

  7. Only reason you need a charger is to charge your batts while the vehicle is off. And AGM style batts like slow charging, 2-6 amps.

Why do you want such a large charger anyway?

I've searched the hell out of kinetik 2400 charger or kinetik chargers and found virtually nothing. The kinetik site says to use at least a 2-stage charger, but only have their 45/60/80 amp chargers listed. I found a kinetik 35 amp on ebay for $99, but wanted to confirm it would be powerful enough. My original thought was to keep the 90amp alt, and just charge/top off the batts every week or two.

Edit: AGM charger came up with better results

  8. Ok cool, I didnt know you could use speaker wire too haha.

Well, now I just need to find out if my current 4 gauge power/ground cables will fit in the 1/0 Sundown connectors. The screw seems pretty big...

It will, I currently have 4 gauge running into my saz 1500d, but it's only running at 2 ohm. I'll be putting in all 1/0 wire when I put in my xcon and drop to 1 ohm.

  9. I'll be powering a 12" xcon off a saz 1500d and mli65/not sure about tweeters on a sax 100.4d in a 96 volvo 850 glt. The stock alternator is a Bosch 90amp, and I'll be replacing the stock battery with a Kinetik 1400 (already purchased). I'll probably be putting a kinetik 2400 in the back as well. But will this be enough? I have 235k miles on the car, so not sure if I want to get a heavy duty alt.

Also, which charger should I be using: 45, 60, or 80 amp?

Posting here since it's 10pm and likely won't get an answer from kinetik soon (holidays), but I did email them anyway.

  10. Sweeeet.. ordered a sax 100.4 from db-r ~ a week ago.. and they're refunding me the difference between the current sales price! And NOW, due to some miraculous mistake, my supposed B-stock amp is actually A-stock and brand new!

'There has been some mistake here. This amp is new, never been mounted, not a single scratch, it's not a B-Stock, it's an A-Stock. Oh well, their loss your gain, I only paid for a B-Stock amp.' :drink40:

  11. so now everbody that buy's an amp, has to go out and get a DMM meter and an o-scope just to prove the amp puts out what on the box , or maybe the amp manufacture would just throw those instruments in the box with the amp. what else does the consumer have to judge amp A to amp B. i really wanna know!!! Because you can never get a straight answer. ( so what i can't spell)

I don't compete, so I could care less what my specific amp puts out. I do know my sundown saz1500d puts out more than 1500w at 12v (others rate at 14.4v) from seeing Jacob's benchmark test. Whether it's 1550 or 1580w from my specific amp, it's not audible anyway.

  12. I know nothing about either, but a quick google search came up with:

    - AGM batteries excel for high current, high power applications and in extremely cold environments.

    - Gel Cells use a thickening agent like fumed silica to immobilize the electrolyte. Thus, if the battery container cracks or is breached, the cell will continue to function. Furthermore, the thickening agent prevents stratification by preventing the movement of electrolyte. As Gel cells are sealed and cannot be re-filled with electrolyte, controlling the rate of charge is very important or the battery will be ruined in short order. Furthermore, gel cells use slightly lower charging voltages than flooded cells and thus the set-points for charging equipment have to be adjusted.

    - Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries are the latest step in the evolution of lead-acid batteries. Instead of using a gel, an AGM uses a fiberglass like separator to hold the electrolyte in place. The physical bond between the separator fibers, the lead plates, and the container make AGMs spill-proof and the most vibration and impact resistant lead-acid batteries available today. Even better, AGMs use almost the same voltage set-points as flooded cells and thus can be used as drop-in replacements for flooded cells.

-Basically, an AGM can do anything a Gel-cell can, only better. However, since they are also sealed, charging has to be controlled carefully or they too can be ruined in short order.

  13. I picked up a Droid a bit ago with the 2yr upgrade.. upgraded from a VERY basic phone, so this thing may just be incredible to me. Here are a few of the free apps:

    - gps turn-by-turn directions (w/ voice).. only thing it doesn't do is traffic patterns (compared with tom-tom), likely to be added later on. I do like the turn-by-turn on the street map, so you can see EXACTLY what it looks like where you turn.

    - usb/bluetooth tethering (internet on your computer using your phone's internet)

    - visual voicemail (with google voice)

    - instrument tuner (guitar/violin/etc)

    - ocr reader (only works with printed documents atm)

    - metal detector (lol, actually works too)

    - bunch of other crazy random free apps

edit: wow, just found the app google goggles. You can take a picture of something, it'll scan and recognize it, and search google for it. reads barcodes/products/text/virtually anything.

  14. i just love these people who think they know sooooooo much and are so above they average guy that they cant answer a simple question and even go as far as to call the question stupid. thanks alot idiot!!!

Well, the question *is* dumb, we're trying to get more info. What do you mean by better? Better lows? Better for competitions? Even still a hard question to answer, since the important part is the actual install. However, if you're trying to decide between the two, flip a coin. I guarantee you'll be very happy with either. I picked the single Xcon over a pair of Icons, my coin landed on heads. :drink40:

  15. I tried using the SSA gallery, but had a few issues, so photobucket links. I'll be building a few boxes soon, at least one sealed and a couple test ported boxes for my 96 Volvo 850 GLT (trunk). This 12" xcon d2 will be replacing my current Infinity Kappa Perfect 12vq's, and powered off a Sundown SAZ-1500d. I have a 50ft spool of 1/0 welding wire in my room, a sax100.4 on the way from db-r, and will be ordering the mli65's from the ssa store along with a battery or two. Now I just need to find some decent tweeters, and get to the box building.

Found this on my porch the other day:

  16. I already have one box thats tuned down to 30hz but i am looking to build a second for competetions. I know higher hz are much easier to get loud on TL. I want to figure out the best hz to tune my box to so it will be as loud as possible. Is there a way to figure out what my cabins best tuned too.

I hear a sealed box, a microphone, and a bit of testing does the trick
