Hello everyone. After reading through new member rules and regulations, I can see this is a no-nonsense group. Good, I'll get right to it. This install started as I have aquired (3) 4' x 8' sheets of 1" MDF and like my music louder than necessary and typically in the rock/rap genres. On top of the material and shop to work in, I have all the tools required for making a good system (table saw, trim gun, router, electrical meters, function generator, D/C power supply, oscilloscope, etc.) And the know-how to use these tools correctly. Here's my parameters for the project. 2004 Nissan Armada with 44"W x 24"H x 26"D to work with. $1000 to spend on this, I know…

Hello everybody, I'm Jarrett from Lafayette La, just thought I would introduce myself. My first car was a 1999 mitsubishi mirage. I put 2 Orion HCCA 10.4s in a custom ported box with an Orion D5000. The D5000 stopped working so I bought 2 cheap Sound Storm amps to replace it. When I started college I sold this setup for $900 Now I drive a 1988 Toyota pickup. I Had an Fi Q 18 in a sealed 5 cu ft box with a US amps MD1D. I traded this setup for these wheels and a spare tire. I enjoy wheeling this truck through the mud as much as I enjoy my bass. My next plans are to put a 10 in a ported box with enough room to fit my tools and my air compressor and 1.5 gal tank behind th…

I am looking at both of these units' specs. The J.L. lists 75 watts per channel at 11.4 volts, the Sundown seems to list 100 watts per channel at 14.4 volts. When I say seems to; it lists testing voltage at 14.4.I would like to know if the 100.4d was tested at 14.4 volts, and if so what would be the rated wattage at 11.4 volts. Apples to apples. Also the signal to noise ratio is much different for these two units. If anyone can tell me at what output these tests were run for each unit.I understand the there is a good chance only the manufacturers know these answers, and they may not want to tell. I also would like to know where Sundown Audio manufactures their products…

What up guy's! So, I need some tuning help/opinions. Vehicle is a 1996 jeep grand cherokee. I have a pair of evil 6.5's, and a pair of evil 1 tweets running off a nvx jad 800.4. Also, have a dayton dsp408. Midbass is mounted in stock location in the doors. Doors are deadened and sealed of as best as I could. Haven't fully installed tweeters yet, but they are wired up. Stock location for tweeters are in the dash. Is this a bad spot for the evils, or is there maybe somewhere better for them? Also, was wondering if anyone had crossover suggestions for the evil mids and tweets. I'm really not sure what steps I need to take as far as the tuning goes. Any opinions are welcome. …

  19. Hello Everyone, I have some questions concerning a high output alternator and figured there's no better place on the internet to find a good answer to my problem. I own a 2002 Tahoe, and am in the process of trying to set up dual alternators. The alternator I ended up with is manufactured by Mean Green Industries. I know nothing about this alternator. The website tells me very little useful information about it. When I attempt to contact them I get voicemail every time, and the box is full so I cant even leave a message. I would have went with some other company, but every transaction with a certain stereo/rim/custom shop in Baltimore, MD (i know some of you know who…

Well maybe not totally. I joined back in 2003 when the site came back up. I took about a 15 year hiatus from car audio. Spent some time in college, spent some time on my career, spent a little time on life. Now I'm in a comfortable spot in life where I have the time for treating my car like a toy again. So I figure why not stop back by one of the best forums I remember. I'm Alex, from northern illinois, the only older piece of equipment I still have is an old blown Avionixx AXT800.2 so don't expect to see any OG gear haha. I'm still a noob, hoping to gain as much knowledge as I can as quickly as I can about newer gear and doing a simple install in my boring '23…

Sup all, i'm Brandon and i'm from Lincoln, NE. I've been into car audio since about 2004, on and off. I currently have 2001 Jetta 1.8T that i just purchased a 10" Dcon for. I just build a ported box 1.25cf tuned at 29hz. I ordered my sub a week ago and still haven't got a tracking number yet so who know's when i'll get it. Are these subs made.after you order or are they made ready to ship? I can't wait to hear this thing in my box. I just have a 10" RE X taking it's space powered by a JL 250/1. The setup i'm most proud of was in a 95 Camaro, i had a Kenwood KDC-X990 HU, Polk MMC6500 components powered by a Kicker KX350.2, a 15" FI Q in a 2.5cf ported box off a ED nine.1. …

  24. Hey guys, I'm new to car audio and just installed my first sub a few days ago. It's a 12 inch Dcon D4. I have it running at 2 ohms off of an audioque aq750. I built the enclosure using the optimal ported recommendation on the SSA website. The problem is I cant turn up the gain on the amp very much without the sub making a rattling noise. Any ideas what I might have done wrong to cause this? I know I'm not getting anywhere close to full potential out of this thing. With the gain set low enough to eliminate the rattle, the mirrors don't even move! The sound is very good, but there just isn't any power at all. All advice is greatly appreciated.

  25. Hey guys. Now that i have my new sub and amp on the way (SKAR Audio 12" subwoofer and Sundown Audio SAX-1200D), i wanted to post a thread that might ask for clarification on the theory of what everyone refers to as " 10% is the Equipment and 90% is the Installation". What exactly does this mean? I mean, obviously, i would imagine that the box within which you place your subwoofer will make a huge difference. The grade of wiring you use will make a difference. All of the level adjustments made on the amplifier will make a big difference. I just want to ensure that i get the best sound out of my new purchase, and if 90% of what is to be expected is in the installation i wan…
