Sound Deadening

Treatments for vibration control, noise mitigation or maximizing SPL

Getting terrible rattles coming from a stock spoiler in a 2008 Grand Prix. What's the recommended treatment here? My first thought is taking it off and drilling a small hole to shoot expanding foam in. Unsure how the expanding foam really works and if it has any negatives.

i decided to try some spray on deadener as opposed to stick on, i gutted/cleaned my truck before application and applied multiple layers. i found sprayed in a 1/16 inch coat with about 40% overlap a single spray has no effect, two layers is enough to stop reverberation of a smaller 5X15" panel when you tap it with your knuckle and 3+ layers is needed for larger 2X5' areas. however the peel and stick products (dynamat and mesamat in this case) not only stop the reverberation but audible lower the resonance of the panel they are applied to while the spray on does not do this, or at least not to a noticeable level. i applied 6 coats of spray on for large areas with seemingl…

So now that I have a little bit of extra money I want to put this in to sound deadening. First up is I want is that I want to do the door panels. So what I need is the CLD tiles right? After that I notice the install Aaron did in the SSA Mazda I want something like that I want it to block of road noise and make the car drive like a luxury car. So can anyone guide me in the right direction that i need to make my car quieter?

Im about to redo my dodge ram 1500. I will be tearing out all carpet, seats, etc and deadning as much as i can. Right now i just have dynamats on all 4 doors and my back walls. I maybe want to add to the doors with something just dont know what? I bought the speaker pad things that go behind the speakers in the door but that is all so far. For the floor i wanna out some deadner down at least and maybe some type of mat or something, can anyone give me some direction in these areas?

i completely removed everything behind the front seats to get ready to put in some damplifier pro and found out my trunk already had some pieces of sound deadener that came from the factory. i was just wondered if it would be better to remove it or just place the damplifier pro on top of it?

Trunk rattle is probably the biggest issue for me as far as extraneous noise goes. This is probably true for quite a trunk-oriented bass setups out there. Anyways, I am trying to diagnose EXACTLY what is causing the noise. I have put padding in between the spoiler mounts and the trunk lid, so I am fairly certain it is not that spot. The license plate is padded and deadened, and the vibration continues even if it is removed. Now the back of the lid is hollow. could it be the panels rattling against each other? Would expanding foam in there solve this? The trunk is obviously padded against the weather stripping all the way around, so it seems unlikely that any of these spo…

Hey guys, I'm in the process of deadening my trunk and I have a question. I have (2) vents in both rear quarter panels just below the floor line of my trunk. I plan on applying deadener all around those vents, but should I apply it OVER the vents as well? I know these things are designed to relieve cabin pressure or whatever, but what should I do with them? Here is a pic:

Well the rear dash Is shaking a lot now, broke some clips that hold in the 6x9s into the dash, lots of rattle via the back trunk. I'm familiar with fat mat as I've used it before, but I'm looking to only spend about 50-60 bucks on some sort of sound proofing material to use on my back trunk, top lining and the bottom where the 6x9s are(ill probably just take them out for good). Would probably need about 50 Or so sq ft. What would be some good options/alternatives? I heard about just using roofing material insulation with. The tar/rubber based bottom from home depot. What would be the downside to using a material like that?

Hey all I'm looking to add some sound deadener to my vehicle but not looking to do the entire vehicle. Just trying to get the spots on the car that will help out the most. Around the speakers? A few Strips on the outer door panel? On the hatch? Just looking to get a small kit maybe 10-20sq ft. I'm just doing a budget build and not trying to spend too much. I figure with this product some is better than none.

I have a 03 ford explorer that I'm planning on doing a full build on soon hopefully over the winter. I have a seasonal job so I'm free all winter. I want to do this the right way so I figured I would start with sound deadening. I think I'm going to go with second skin damplifier but I'm unsure about how much I will need to order. I think I will do the roof and the doors rear hatch included. Does anyone know approximately how many sq. feet I would need?

I'm going to be firing my subs and port forward and sealing off the trunk from the cabin. So far, I only have my front doors and trunk lid deadened. I only bought 36 sq ft of dynamat extreme (I live 5 minutes from the factory, gotta support them haha), what should I deaden primarily first? Because I'm sealing off from the trunk, do I even need to deaden anything in the trunk?

Just a shout out to Don of SoundDeadenerShowdown! Shipped me everything I needed to treat my doors at a great price. Answered all my questions and then some and even saved me a few dollars by keeping me from buying more than I needed. His product exceeded all of my expectations and the fact that I was able to help a small business was icing on the cake. Thanks Don! The only problem now is that the engine and road noise I couldn't hear before is coming through loud and clear Time to start saving up to treat the rest of my vehicle

  20. Hi need help from you guys who understands soundproofing and noise better. I've recently soundproofed the trunk and the floor pan of my VW passat. Used CAE equivalent of dynamat, CAE VB4.5 , 3M thinsulate. Firstly the road noise "seemed" louder but I'm guessing it is because I've brought the whole noise floor down too much and therefore accentuating road noise further. Secondly there seems to be pressure building up my ears and it's causing minor irritation whenever I drive. My guess is the deadening lowered the resonant frequency of the car panels too much causing it to resonate and drone. The drone is quite low frequency and it is not very audible. You c…

I upgraded speakers in Challenger and with better bass comes a little vibration in the rear package tray. It's installed correctly, just rattling/vibrating over and behind the sub. I placed a small piece of rubber between the tray and the rear window and that helped some but on some notes still getting the rattle. Any easy fixes here?

I am running 2 SA-12's of an SAX-1200D in a 2001 Ford Expedition. My back hatch and doors were rattling pretty bad. Got a hold of Don for 40 CLD tiles. From ordering to getting it to my house took about 5 days. I did the back hatch and two front doors, did 25% coverage and the difference is really noticable. Great product and easy guy to deal with. I will definitely buy from him again!!!! I used only 14 of the tiles and my truck sounds a lot better, I will do the other two doors next weekend.

So I'm trying to sound deaden my moms 2009 or 10 (it's the newer body style) Honda CRV to kill road noise. She commutes 1-4 hours a day (mostly highway) and hates the road noise. This car is horrible! Ultimately she doesnt care about stereo or thermal insulation, she just wants a quieter ride. I was under the impression that the floor would make the biggest difference, so I used ~80 sq ft of damp pro on the entire floor, spare tire area, as high up on the firewall as I could get, and some on the back hatch. Also did the back quarterpanels I believe they are called (above the rear wheel wells) and stuffed the huge open cavities with several yards of fiberglass. The result…
