Sound Deadening

Treatments for vibration control, noise mitigation or maximizing SPL

I recently primered my chevy nova's hatchback trunk lid with one coat of primer just so it wouldnt have a yellow trunk and primered body. I was wondering how would I prep the underside of the lid with acetone if it removes paint/primer? I hope this isnt a stupid question haha i just couldnt find the answer anywhere else.

I have an opportunity to get a bunch of hushmat extremely cheap from a shop wanting to clear it out. Now, my question,is it any good? Normally, it is too expensive to consider over the other brands on here, but this is a good deal. I don't want to spend the money or time if the stuff does a poor job. I only want to deaden once.

  4. I have a 2017 Chrysler 200 and I have had it for a couple of months now. Before I had a 2012 ford fusion SEL but I just had one sub and not as big as a setup in my veichle and it never rattled before for me. I got into a really bad accident somebody hit me going 65 mph and I was crippled and couldn't walk for a while so that car got totalled, but this is my new one the Chrysler 200 limited and I got a new set of subs and amp too. Some bigger stuff bigger amp 2 subs now but theres some rattling in the inside like where say you'd put some Sunglasses in, in a compartment that's on the top of the car roof area and the lights in the middle of the windshield that area. Otherwis…

  6. We always love hearing back from customers (or professional installers in this case) and sharing their results. Nothing beats real world testing of great American made noise & heat insulation products. Bruce at HCA has some awesome data he shared with us via email and we are passing it along. Using Damplifier Pro to clean up the structure borne sound in his clients Mitsubishi Evo has greatly decreased the noise level which will greatly increase the amount of music you are able to hear or just to enjoy a more quiet trip down the road on daily commutes. Always insist on high quality American made sound insulation products....Second Skin For The Win!!!

  7. So yeah basically about 2 yrs I installed Rattle Trap extreme in my car. Over the past few weeks its been extremely hot in san antonio and I noticed that there was something leaking out the side of my door. Doing further investigation i discovered it was the rattle trap extreme melting from the inside of the door through the drain holes in my door. So i decided i might as well remove this crap and then i noticed quickly it was too easy to remove it off the outside of my door panel. But as I was about to begin removing it on the inside of the door i realized it was way too hard using physical strength. Anybody know the best way to remove the rattle trap extreme and clean o…

So I'm trying to sound deaden my moms 2009 or 10 (it's the newer body style) Honda CRV to kill road noise. She commutes 1-4 hours a day (mostly highway) and hates the road noise. This car is horrible! Ultimately she doesnt care about stereo or thermal insulation, she just wants a quieter ride. I was under the impression that the floor would make the biggest difference, so I used ~80 sq ft of damp pro on the entire floor, spare tire area, as high up on the firewall as I could get, and some on the back hatch. Also did the back quarterpanels I believe they are called (above the rear wheel wells) and stuffed the huge open cavities with several yards of fiberglass. The result…

Ive searched and searched for any info about how to decrease the noise created by my Thule 686XT Atlantis 1600 Roof Box to no avail. Is that because its simply a silly thing to try since it just makes so much noise? I have done no sound damping to my Subaru Impreza, but plan to address noise coming through the floor, hood, doors and roof. my question is this: Is there something I can do to the box to get it to resonate less? Or do i simply focus on the roof and possibly, load bars and rails? Thank you very much for any help you may offer. Noah

I was just wondering if it is ok to use that rubberized undercoating stuff that comes in a can for the inside of speaker boxes? If it is possible to use would I benefit from it? I'm not looking to but if I do thats fine, I really just want to seal up any "potential" leaks and make sure it won't hurt.

Alright, obviously this isnt very possible but i want to cut out as much rattle as possible. I already have a single layer of Dynamat and its not working. My rear bumper is rattling like crazy, trunk is rattling, rear-quarter panel basically everything from the C-Panel back. Iv been looking into SDS, a good cost effective choice. Im guessing my best bet is MLV tile but im not really sure if ill need anything else? Also, iv heard to eliminate quarter panel rattle is to use a shaped piece of MDF and spray foam. Tell me what you think. Total noob when it comes to deadening. Help me out.

Just a shout out to Don of SoundDeadenerShowdown! Shipped me everything I needed to treat my doors at a great price. Answered all my questions and then some and even saved me a few dollars by keeping me from buying more than I needed. His product exceeded all of my expectations and the fact that I was able to help a small business was icing on the cake. Thanks Don! The only problem now is that the engine and road noise I couldn't hear before is coming through loud and clear Time to start saving up to treat the rest of my vehicle

If my port and sub are firing foward into the car from the trunk and sealed off, is there any benefit sound-wise to putting sound deadening material in the trunk? I am on a budget and have some second skin, I just want to know if I should deaden the trunk or the inside of my car first. The box I have built has to be put together in the trunk because it is bigger than the trunk opening, so once it is in it is really in. I have a 15" XCON being powered by a DC 5.0K at 2 ohms (2300 watts nominal). Should I deaden the trunk or concentrate on the interior of the car, best bang for my buck? Thank you for your help.

Hey guys. I'm looking to deaden my Jeep Cherokee the right way. But just like anyone else, I still want a quality product for a good price. I have heard tons of good things about quality and price of Second Skin, But I also found this site: http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/products/cld very useful. I Understand the fundamentals of sound deadening and only want to do this one time with the greatest results possible. Please no arguing about asphalt or using low quality products or any of that other stuff they do on lame forums. My questions: 1. According to Sound Deadener Showdown, more than 25% coverage is a waste. I don't want to waste anything whether is be t…

This has probably gone over HUNDREDS of times but the search function didnt give me the results I was looking for. From what I have read sound deadening will make you lose spl? Well I like my sub being loud but I hate the rattle from my trunk. What is the best way to apply Second Skin (Seemed to be the best) without losing the loud boom that I am going for? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry to those I anger with this post. Thanks, Jeremy Also....Has anyone ever tried Spectrum? Seems easy enough.....

If the stuff comes on a roll is that a dead give away that it's asphalt based? Recently a new player has come on the market claiming butyl based sound deadener. Audio Technix is the place. Their claim is a 60mil thick sound deadener / 4mil aluminum with butyl adhesive, Their introductory offer seems good, but their stuff comes on a roll. Should I stay away? Thanks.

I am running 2 SA-12's of an SAX-1200D in a 2001 Ford Expedition. My back hatch and doors were rattling pretty bad. Got a hold of Don for 40 CLD tiles. From ordering to getting it to my house took about 5 days. I did the back hatch and two front doors, did 25% coverage and the difference is really noticable. Great product and easy guy to deal with. I will definitely buy from him again!!!! I used only 14 of the tiles and my truck sounds a lot better, I will do the other two doors next weekend.
