I just picked up a pair of MTX Thunder TA81001D amps, and according to the engineers at MTX there is no way to disable the subsonic filter or bypass the built in EQ in the pre-amp board (which is a crock). The TA92001, TE4001, and TE1501 units all have a button to bypass all of this garbage, but no such button exists on the TA81001. If you take the pre-amp board out, you can clearly see a spot on the board for the bypass switch - Labeled as "S102". MTX refuses to give me a schematic or instructions on what needs to be jumpered, removed, etc. to eliminate the EQ and Subsonic filter pieces. I'm about to tear into it myself, but figured I would ask here first. If anyone has …

I have been designing and building solid state and tube amplifiers form scratch since I worked for Audioprism in the early 90s. I have designed and built over 10 amplifiers, from scratch... I have been using test equipment for decades. I am an active duty Air Force E-7 select who has been a radio and RF systems technician for the past 12 years. I have built over 200 loudspeakers. A guy I work with has (2) 12" Hifonics Brutus in a sealed box. He said he would give them to me for $60.00, do you think this is a good deal? I have not seen them yet, he will be bringing them in tomorrow. I am not to concerned with how they will sound. I will be getting my new setup in September so basically they will be used in the mean time. Onlinecarstereo.com has them for 119.00 Ea., I am thinking that I may even be able to sell them for a profit when i am thru with them. Sean, I noticed your comments on the BMW thread. I have the same problem with my vehicle. The rear seats dont fold down nor a ski hole. I was questioning whether or not to cut out the ski hole, still havnt made a decision.

Unless the driver has a Q of around .01 and it is below a few Hz, they can't reproduce a squarewave without ringing and are never really at rest... I guess it is interpretation of what rest is beyond this point... jw 2 + 2, did you actually read the results of clipping test?
