General Audio

I have a Sirius satellite radio, that the plug/transformer end of the powercord for it, no longer works. I want to wire it directly into the car. However, the transformer steps the current down to 5.2v/1.5a. My question....based on a system that puts out 14+ volts, what size resister would I need in order to correctly stepdown the power going to the radio? My biggest concern here is frying the radio itself.

right now i have a 12" btl powered by audioque 2200d in a ext cab ranger but im looking to get a new vehicle ( murano probably) how will it sound, i know it will depend on box size and all but as far as vehicle specific what will be the ups or downs to the suv, ive never had a system in a suv so im just looking for some input. So, I've finally come to the realization that it's quite cumbersome having a large, complex stereo. My original goal was to have adequate equipment for 3-way active frontstage plus substage....but the fucking gear just doesn't fit in my trunk the way I'd prefer. I want to maintain as much trunk space as possible plus have access to my spare....and it's just not working out well. Too much equipment, not enough space. I want to use the line out from an Alpine MRP F300 amp to temporarily (1-2mos.) power a mono amp for subs until I get a head w/sub pre-outs. Any suggestions for a good reasonably priced one. This is very temporary. Also, will doing this affect the 4-channel speaker outs of the amp?

I haven't posted on here in awhile, so figured I would give a quick review of my newly installed setup. Vehicle is a 2003 S-10 extended cab. Decided to switch to Kenwood with this install and running a DNX6980 receiver. Front stage consists of a Focal Access three way setup with the midbass in the stock door location and the mids and tweets in the dash. Running this off of a Boss Havoc that I purchased from the group buy on here two years ago. For now I am just running them off two channels, and using the other two channels to power my pair of 12" DCON's. Got my amp and sub hooked up, started bumping some music then it cut off. I went back to check out what was going and and saw that a razor blade had fallen across the speaker terminals on the amp. Now the amp wont power up.

Hey guys i know i may sound like a straight noob i apologize before hand but this is really driving me crazy!! I have gone step by step one for one and have isolated that the radio is the cause of the issue or the alternator, i have tried running new rca's from the head unit, ive tried pulling the eq out of the equation but still the same noise. I have tried different radios: older alpine 9887 or something like that, a walmart pioneer deck, and just today an alpine cde-123 and still the same thing!! I just got a 09 crew cab 1500 chevy silverado. I currently have quite a bit of equipment from my old builds, but none will really fit in the truck. It's all 6.5" speakers in the doors and tweets up front in the a-pillar. I'll probably be selling some of my stuff to pick up speakers that will fit. I have had nothing but good come from focal, so I was thinking of staying with them. I was thinking of going either with the Access or Polyglass lines. The K2's get a bit expensive and Utopia is out of the question. Also, what is your advice on running them from the HU (Alpine IVA-W200). Hi, i new to the forums and would for my first post to ask something that even after being around car stereo often i still dont understand.... which is Ohms... say i have a subwoofer that i run at 2ohms with a amp that can run 1000 watts at 2ohms... then i have the same subwoofer that i am running at 1ohm and a amp with 1000 watts running at 1ohm... just the change in ohm with no change to either the sub or amp will the sound be any different or would it be the same? any input helps thanks in advance!

Has anyone ever taken out the backseat of a sedan or coupe in order to make space for an enclosure? This is like a mini-wall type enclosure with two 12s or two 15s, most likely the two 12s going directly behind the front seats. I was wondering if it is worth it, i want to optimize output without having the rear seat distorting the sound waves, and the difficulty of fitting a larger size box within the small trunk opening(going inside an infiniti G35 coupe). Would this be a good idea? I have no need for the backseat, so should i just go with it? Any input would be much appreciated.

Alright got my SAZ3000 in today, all installed.. went to set gains and couldn't get any voltage out of the amp.. 39volts is what I got with gain all the way up.. aiming for 50 (3000watts). Lowpass was set fine, subsonic wasn't set too high, bass was on the HU. Pretty stumped right now. Also the subs are at 1 ohm.

Now its been awhile so i forgot all the fancy terms but im sure you guys can answer this. So i have my amp set up for my max volum at 25. Now i listen to a lot of reggae and i dont at 25 it doesnt come close to clipping my amp. So is it ok to turn the volume up more?

I have 2 15" lanzar subs hooked up to a 1400 watt lanzar amp.. how do you wire the amp down to .5 ohms so it will be max porformace 1300 watts??

For those of you familiar with bass box pro and/or winisd, help me out here. The box is 2 cuft tuned to 30hz (12" rlp), 4" precision port When I do this calculation (Lv=((8466.4*r^2)/(Vb*Fb^2))-(1.463*r) I get a number like 15.89". Winisd gives 16.28" with end correction being .614 (is that right for 2 flared ends?) And Bass box Pro gives a length of 17.35". Which of these is correct? Or is there some other part if it I am missing? It seems as though they should all be the same length if my numbers are identical, but they obviously are not. Also, a precision port ordered from PE is 17" in length with adding the flares and not cutting anything, correct? Thanks

Hey guys im in the process of taking out my system in my truck. Well i took out the three batteries and all my amps and subs i have in my cab and when i went to start the car it wouldnt turn on. My volt meter was reading like 8. something volts and to turn it on i have to have it jumped. Any suggestions on what it could be. My fuses by the battery under the hood looked fine. The alt is fine as well it idles at like 13.7 volts. thanks.

Has anyone owned or used the creative zen mp3 players? I am considering the X-Fi2 touchscreen model as an alternative to an iPod (i've had 6 iPods; all of em broke) Main concerns are sound quality, how loud it can get, and functionality.
