I have a cobalt that comes with the battery in the trunk stock. It was grounded to a piece of sheet metal that was spot welded to the wheel well. I had to remove said piece to fit the 2 extra kinetik hc16v running off the second alt. Any way i have all the batteries grounded with 2/0 to one spot (sheet metal) and the amps hu and processor are also indirectly grounded to the same spot. The only thing audio wise not connected to this one spot is the second alt which is grounded in the engine bay instead. Even as such I've experienced tons of ground loop. So the past few weeks I've spent rewiring my car and doing some tricks to eliminate the ground loop. The hard work paid o…

  3. After being out of car audio for a couple years now, I got the bug again. I recently bought a 2004 Toyota 4Runner and have factory speakers all the way around. The only upgrade I have done is install an Alpine CDE-W265BT. The drivers door speaker is making noises, and there are some annoying rattles that need to be addressed. I figured while I try to find the annoying rattles and replace the blown speaker, I will do some proper deadening and install a new front stage. This system will be for casual listening. No competitions and I don't care a tone about getting really loud. Sound quality ismy number one priority. So here's what I have and my initial id…

Quick Question What is considered Mid Bass? To be more precise, the frequency range. I hear this usually when people put 8"s on their doors (which I plan to do), but I would like to have clear what exact range is mid bass. Im guessing 100-200hz?

  5. Ok so I've been trying to troubleshoot alternator whine through my 4 channel since I've installed it. Let me first list my equipment. Car: 2004 Grand Prix GT no monsoon system, no onstar Headunit: JVC KD-720 (old, bought it back in 2007 or something) U-35 cable converting cd changer to AUX EXT IN is in use. Wired this to cars harness myself as I did not need the expensive PAC harness, as I didnt care if I maintained onboard date/time display or door chimes. 4 channel amp: SSL F400, poopy I know, but this is my first time hooking up a 4 channel so babysteps 6x9s: Infinity Reference 691.3 3-way, Using a pair of stinger bass blockers on them to just get use of frequencies 15…

So, I am getting ready to buy a box from a friend that is made for a 2008 F150 super crew (which is what i have)...however, the box is carpeted in a fuzzy gray carpeting and my interior is black. Is it ok to just rip the carpet off and recarpet it? Also, if I decided I didnt want to recarpet in black, is it ok to sand the parts of the box that you will see down some, apply some light layers of resin to harden it, sand it down and paint it? I have never done this, but I think it will give the nicest look. Thanks

  7. Ive noticed that my entire system gets louder when its raining outside! i know this sounds weird but i wonder if the weight of the water on the panels acts as a mild deadener? is the moisture creating a better ground perhaps? pretty odd..

  9. Hey guys i think I'm in the right area of the forum to post this but if I'm not, my bad. I bought two Fi BL 15s fully loaded with the daily option a few months back. Originally I was going to buy a Sundown or Cresendo amp but money is tight so I've been looking into the Hifonics BE 2500.1. I know they have a bad name, but I currently own an older series Hifonics BXi 2008d and honestly love the amp. Don't get me wrong I've had it repaired about 4 times but all due to inefficient power supply. The new series is CEA compliant and Steve Meade proved they do put out the power advertised. With that being said, do you guys think a 240 amp Mechman Alt could power the 2500 rms am…

I have 10-8 inch and 6-10 inch PRV audio speakers. I have Taramps HD8000 2ohm running all 16 speakers. My question is will I get better performance from all 16 speakers if I separate the 8's and 10's to different amps? It does get reasonable but in my opinion I have heard smaller systems get louder with less power.

Its been a hot minute since I've been back around the SSA Forums. So what I have to share is our new M3 lvl 6 15. http://youtu.be/LgINN67wNHs?list=UUCyrPB8lLWhPP-oWTfTP7hQ New proprietary 15in basket uses a newly tooled 10in spider. It can accomodate a full 4in peak to peak and comes in with a 28hz fs. Just what the low low tuned daily groundpounders need! In the video sub was on a 10k in a box built for 2 lol.

i need some guidance here. I'm looking at a 2 way 10" mid bass with horn setup, the 10's I'm looking at seem to go up to around the 800-1200hz range so the horn needs to handle around 1k and up. i found some limited information from 07 on how a setup would work and from what i gather i want the horns positioned under the dash and firing parallel to the floor? with some processing i should be able to raise the sound stage up to about dash level? i also read that the width will more than likely be less than the distance between the a pillars if i don't add any other tweeters and that the horns would benefit from a 16khz and up super tweet? ive never done a horn…

Who makes a decent volt meter that isn't a $100+ dollars.(No SMD) I'm gonna order one soon, and just looking for opinions on who makes a decent meter. What are you guys using, and has anyone used the stinger meter are they decent? Or the 99 cent ones on eBay are they even worth the trouble to hook up?

This is my setup and i need advice to see if i need a capacitor or not. 2001 toyota avalon xl 2 Type r's 1222d Kicker zx1000 Kenwood double din headunit This is my first system and the people at the electronics store said that i need a cap but i cannot be sure. I dont know how to do the big three upgrade. My question: Do i need a capacitor and if i dont have one will my lights be dim? and Will the alternator and battery be able to handle the power without sacrificing the dimming of lights and other electrical problems? i think the alternator gives out 80 amps stock and with the car on it is between 13.5-14.5V thanks

I have a 1966 Chevy C-10 Pickup and I am pulling the system out of my car to put in the Truck when I get the brakes fixed. Anyway, I have been surfing the web like crazy and I can't find a dash install kit for the truck So I can put my HU in it. Do they even make one? Or am I going to have to have someone cut into the dash to make a custom fitted one?
