Okay, I have had this horrible smell for about 3 days. Didnt know what it was until i opened the good and seen my fuse smoking..... So I found my fuse holder smoking with the side that goes to the amp alll burned up and melted.... I dont know why at all.... It only started after my car had ran out of gas... Not sure how or why that would have an affect. but the odd thing too is my subs pound fine and my highs are still going. What can I do!?!? or check for? The only other thing I could even think was bad was a ground? Would that be a problem?

do you feel that satellite radio, either XM or Sirius is worth the $13 a month? what about the qualities and features of the receivers? cost of them? what do you look for in a receiver? what would you like in a receiver? is the sirius s50 worth the msrp tag of $350 (or so)? i have a few thoughts, but need some input. there could very well be a new receiver on the market soon....lol....with a nice kick to it. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Asset sale puts frustrating close to Phoenix Gold saga The Portland Business Journal - by Aliza EarnshawBusiness Journal staff writer Struggling audio equipment maker Phoenix Gold International Inc. has found a buyer, but some long-suffering shareholders stand to be wiped out. Phoenix Gold managers told investors at last week's annual meeting that the company plans to sell its assets for not much more than its estimated liquidation value. Those attending the meeting were not told who is buying Phoenix Gold, only that the buyers are not current company managers. The proposed deal could put an end to Phoenix Gold's often tumultuous history as a public company. The once-pr…

Heys guys I will be building my sub box for 2-15inch NS subs come this summer and I had a quick question. first of all here is my box. see how the subs are firing DOWN and the full weight of the subs is on that one board, well i am going to need to support that board somehow. The 2 subs weight about 60~lb's each so 120lbs total will need to be supported. a friend told me to just use a piece of wood (dowel) and screw it from both ends and then glue it and not worry about it. but then i started to think over time due to vibration and temperature change would the screws start to lose their grip and potential come out or something of that nature? so i thought about threa…

It seems I'm in a constant state of evolution with my system. Currently I have a modest SQ system, in so much as it sounds good to me. I've made certain compromises in order to keep a mostly stock environment, as well as my preference for listening to my iPod (versus CDs). My current setup: Front Stage: Alpine IDA-X001 AudioControl EQL Sundown Audio SAX-100.4 JBL P650C 2-way components Sub: Sundown Audio SAX-100.2 2 @ SoundSplinter RL-i8 (sealed) I play a wide range of music but have a preference for alternative/punk/dance. I had purchased a set of Seas CA18RLYs last year, but they won't fit my stock 4Runner door panels. While I'm satisfied with the JBLs, I can't hel…

Might be a ridiculous question but i'd rather be safe than sorry. Is it an alright idea to mount my amp directly on the top of my box. Never really see it so i figured i'd ask. Just to throw it out there it will be a Sundown SAZ-2000D on a box for a Fi BTL 15". Thanks.

  11. Big thanks to Shizzon for shipping out my meter promptly and what a great price for a rare and extremely helpful tool. Specs, 02 Camry (sunroof) Mechman 220a, 2 dekas in the rear, XS D2400 under the hood AQ... Wait, Soundcubed 3500.1 @ .7 2 BTL N2 18s, pink dustcaps which help a little on the meter. ~13 cubes at 36-37hz Not exactly completely sealed off, I used high density foam to keep the resell value of my car. Box has awful flex which I'll be fixing in a week with some steel bracing. Plenty of testing to come so I'll keep updating this thread. So far I just ran a sweep legal style and just used the same frequency outlaw. Outlaw Sealed Another outlaw score Outl…

  12. So today i went to replace my girlfriends hifonics bxi 610 with my old rd 1000.1 v1 amp. Before i made the swap she said sub was playing. After i swap the amps i go to tune the amp by ear and absolulately zero output from the sub. So i grab my dmm and turn it to the ohms setting, with the car off it reads .9-1.1 but when i turn the car on it goes to -23-25. first i think maybe the sub has a bad lead or something so i go grab another perfectly working sub and get the same results. Then i was thinking its gotta be the amp then so i switch them back, same results on both subs and both amps. So now shes without beats and its all my fault of course so i wont hear the end of it…

I have a zx1500.1 kicker amp 1500 watts at 2 ohm's//. 2 ohm stable,,,, a duralast gold battery. (primary) 0 gauge knu wire. I just put it all in my f-150 . it all worked great with my two type r 12" wired at 4 ohms. but i recently got a 15" Fi BL fully loaded dual 1 ohm. I built a box and wired it up, set the gains and it worked great for about 4 hours. then the amp suddenly shut off. i'de hard reset it and it would work for another 2 minutes and go in to protect again. so i got the duralast gold. cuz it worked great with the amp and 4 type R's at 2 ohms in my galant. no voltage drops. .......... so i put one in my truck and it made no difference. eventually it just didn…

So I don't live in a bad neighborhood, but I just bought an amp that cost me over $1K, and I plan on spending a lot on speakers and subs, but I am just going to bolt those down. As for the amp, what would be the best way of locking it down? I thought about a bullet proof glass case(with holes for venting), but ventilation would still suck, I have thought about just putting 2 long steel bars across it and bolting them down on each side of the amp, but I am undecided. I thought it would not hurt to come here and see what everyone else has done to protect their equipment.

Well, I finally got the last word about my deployment. I ship out right around New Year. Now that I have a time-line I need to get the Neon in saleable shape. I bit the bullet last night an bought the amp. It's an older Kicker KX550.3 3 channel. Fresh refurb. $149 shipped. Now all I need is the sub. Looking for an inexpensive 12 that will work well in a small sealed enclosure and 200@4 or 400@2 for power. The build will take place over the next 3 weeks before I ship out. More sooner than later. The current trunk install comes out this weekend and the build begins. I'll start a build log in the correct section. Looking for ideas for the sub. Needs to be a 12. …

i purchased a dd-1 years ago and recently i purchased a dso nano oscilloscope, for half the price of the dd-1, and decided to do a little testing... I used them both on both of my amps and this is what i got on both amps. clearly the dd-1 shows that there is no "distortion" yet there is some soft clipping, which can be seen much easier from the picture i took closer. i did not have to turn the gain down much more to get a round wave. so, my conclusion is that if people want to set their gains with tones than they should save some money and just buy a dso nano.

  23. WOOOHOOOO!!!!! WOW, so excited. Well, Jason (UndercoverPunk on caraudio.com) came over yesterday at about 1 p.m. to help me out on some deadening. Deadener was SecondSkin Damplifier and SecondSkin Spectrum. After borrowing my truck from the mechanic's (Just got a whole new transmission, 3 weeks later...problems... thank god for 3 year warranty) We took it home and began to strip it down. Took All the seats, body panels, and carpet out. There are AT LEAST 2 layers of Damplifier EVERYWHERE seen (sometime 3 layers). Spectrum didn't get used yet....MAYBE i'll put the full gallon on the floor next time. Here's a pic of a *few* things in the bed of the truck... After about…

Trying to figure out what to cover the amp rack and box with. I've normally just done carpet that was the closet match for the area the install is in. Trying to decide if I want t do something else now. I did a couple installs in the past where I used formica on the amp rack and trim pieces with carpet and I liked the look. Used to be able to pick up smaller sized pieces at Home Depot, but seems only full sheet now. Can't do vinyl, tried in the past and it just doesn't work well for me. Since all my trim will be black, I was thinking maybe white formica on the amp rack and maybe do the same on the top of the box, then make a carpeted trim pice that is cut bigger t…
