So I was searching this forum and others and I found this stuff called BIRCH PLY. my thoughts are it looks sexy and cost more than mdf. but my question is how does it compare to mdf? does 3/4 mdf= ½ birch ply or 5/8 if ½ is to small? are there any downsides to using this type of wood? also can someone confirm if birch ply is 1/2 the weight of mdf? (say 3/4 mdf vs. 3/4 birch ply = 1/2 the lb's) I am considering using this type of wood for my box rather than MDF b/c my next setup will be a heavy one and eliminating weight will be good in my part or I will HAVE to buy a luggage kit for my car which is ~300$ my next setup will be: 2-saz2000 = 40lb~ 2-NS 15inch v1 subs = …

Hello all, as mentioned in my newbie intro I made my way here on recommendation while searching for a solution to add some bass to my 2010 Camaro. I wanted to post up and see what thoughts/suggestions others may have. Here is my current set up: 2010 Camaro - stock. No upgrages to electrical - stock sound system which is the Boston Accoustics. What I am wanting to do is add bass that is clean and tight. I do not want really to be noticed 20 feet away and I do not want the "excursion effect" where its all warbley and distorted. I typically listen to Rob Zombie, Godsmack, Rhianna, Lady Gaga, ect. No rap. What I am looking at so far: Subthump sealed mid size side drop in…

I am looking to upgrade my current setup. I have a Directed Audio D2400 pushing 2 Hifonics Brutus Subs in a ported pre-fab box. It was a pretty good setup, but now I want more. I have been looking at the AQ sdc2.5 15" woofer. I would want to power it with a Hifonics 1200D Brutus Series amp. Running it at 2 ohms, which would send about 900 rms to the sub. I researched, sub and amp is a little under $400 total . Is there any setup that is better than this for the price. They are going in the trunk of an 04 Grand Prix. Thanks Justin

I saw lots of songs on a list here but I noticed that there were no songs from the Southern hemisphere. I know of many songs like Reggeaton that have awesome rythm and bass. I uploaded one to one of my websites. Take a peek and let me know what you think. Listen until the bass kicks in. Thanks. music

I usually am used to seeing boxes with the shape of a port like a L, but the box was to be tuned to 32 hz and is missing the piece of wood that is found behind the cutout usually... what is wrong here?

hello guys im going to start my new box and this time im building it my self . anyone who has work on some FI bl's not sure if the size matters but mine are 18" and im looking to have them to reach their limit using less power so going with a bigger box instead of smaller box with more power . my dimensions are w58"L24"H26" these are the outside measurements. im thinking of using two sonotubes either 8" to 10" because their 8" ones are more like 8.5" or 9". so i have to get back at you guys with the tunning of the box which i wanted to be 30hz sub up port up so if someone has time to make me a design i will appreciate it. i don't want something crazy just 45's and…

  9. Lately I've been looking into Fibeglass subwoofer enclosures and I'm just wondering if they function any differently then an MDF enclosure? I've done some research and wouldn't think it would affect the sound if it was properly constructed but alot of people online have said that MDF is the way to go. Is that just because MDF is so much easier to work with or does fiberglass really affect the output of the woofer? Also, after looking around the site alot of people here use fiberglass for speakers and midbass drivers but not many use it for Subs and that got me worrying about it too. If any of the Guru's here could shed some light on the subject it would be greatly appreci…

What would you use to kill rattles in your dash? I'm looking at the secondskin site but they have so many different products I don't know which would be best for the dash (plastic on plastic). Also the roof of my jeep wrangler is plastic-ish Heres a pic: Would it be worth it to put some "Luxury Liner" or any other product on it? It doesn't rattle, but might make cabin quieter from road noise? Any input? Thanks

Hey, going to build a triple amplifier rack out of 1/2" MDF. Is there a paint recommended for use with MDF, I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I didn't find much with the search. I would like it to be as chip/flake resistant as possible, would spray or roll on be best?

I have a friend in America that keeps saying Fiat Panda gets very loud and I should buy one for my project. It has something to do with the vehicle's acoustics and the shape of the car... like Honda CRX's. Sean and Jacob are at SBN right now, and Sean said there is a Panda ... Something like 158db - 2 x 15's In Bulgaria I can find some Pandas for cheap... the cheapest one is 350$ ! And some better ones for about 500-700$. What do you guys heard about Pandas? Is it true about them and SPL? I am thinking about two Nightshades 18's or 15's if there is not enough space. Wall or no wall? If I go with a wall does the vehicle really matter that much? With a box somewhere in …

Hopefully this time I can make a decision. I have a 2004 Tahoe, listen to mostly rock, rap, and blues, and want to have a two-way active front stage (finally decided to stay clear from the 3 way active front!). I want to mount in some kick panels, both the mid and the tweeter, which I will either buy from Q-logic or just attempt my own (which is what I am leaning towards). My budget for drivers is up to $500, although I don't think I will need that much. I guess they will be pretty much on-axis and for this project I am considering going more of the SPL route, beyond reference levels, with low distortion which I guess is now referred to as ""SQL"" (e…

I'm going to mount my amp vertically on the side of my enclosure, anyone have any tips or suggestions for reducing vibration? I've read where people mounted them straight on the box then ruined the amp after heavy playing... So should I mount the amp to some mdf with rubber grommets then have that mount to the side of the enclosure? Any help would be appreciated

  21. So to start here is my sub box so as you can see my box will be made of 3/4 mdf and nothing will be visible the only think ppl will see are 2-6inch ports and 1 slot! now let's say I replaced the front piece with a piece of lexan or Acrylic Plexiglas (racecar stuff I think...) that way ppl could see a side profile of the subs and then I could use some LED's and have a sexy light show lol! now more info that sub box is ~7cubi and 6.1 after all displacement the subs are NS v1 15inch subs, this is a TOTAL in the trunk enclosure. so my questions are: 1. will Lexan work 2. what is Acrylic Plexiglas a. how does it compare to lexan I am currently searching Google and …

I'm looking for a site that sells ring terminals and fuses for cheap. I know a lot of the popular sites do but I can't justify spending $10 for a ring terminal and $6 for a fuse just because they're gold plated or have some company name on them. I've been poking around and found a few but they mostly seem to have a lot of poor reviews and try to rape me on shipping.

I went to two local shops recently and asked for help in setting the gains on my system. I asked if that was something they did and what methods they used. The first shop said they turn the HU vol to about 75% and set all the gains by ear. Are you f**king serious! What about my HU and my 4 channel amp? The second shop I went to told me that they had access to an O scope and they would do it at no cost. Wow, I was ecstatic. The only catch is they couldn't do it right then, even though they said it would only be ~15 min. It was 3:00 in the afternoon and the installer said to come back at 7:00 pm, so I was like sure i'll be back. When I arrived at 7:00, the owner of …

I'm looking to get terminal rings for when I do the big 3. Where do you guys find ones big enough to go over the battery terminal for 1/0 cable? Is it worth getting one of those fancy battery terminals that can accept two runs of wire? Where would be a good place to find those. This thread can also be used to post websites etc. of where you get your nuts bolts and goodies from. Thanks, Jeremy
