The Box design i used from a guy from SMD didnt pan out so well, i honestly think the port length was longer than in my plan.... It sounds like it tuned to 42hz instead of 32hz. That being said im hoping SSA forum can help!! Keep in mind id really like to keep the box either as wide and shallow or flat/wide/deep as possible. Basically im trying to fit the golf clubs in the back, either in front of the box, or on top. 12" Fi Q on ~1600RMS tuned to 30ish hz. thanks for the help fellas/ladies

  2. i pieced together a simple system for a friend of mine and installed everything, only thing left to do is make the box and slap it in there! we both a totall newbs at sub enclosures and already failed miserably at making one for this sub (long story short, it turned out to be a fart box. box is sub forward port back which makes it interchangeable in positions 5 ways which we like a lot) so i need you guys to help us out on a box design/specs, i dont wanna be pushy but we need the specs by tomorrow because he really wants to build a box thats right and hear his sub how it should be already. hes a carpenter so the woodworking skills and tools are all here and ready. the ma…

Just pondering ideas and wondered why I had never seen anyone use polyurethane on boxes or anything else car audio related? Seems to me like it would be a great finish on the outside, as well as good sealant for the insides of the box. Polyurethane has a very smooth glossy finish which I would think would be great for ports and such.. Which leads me to wonder why it hasn't been used in place of fiberglass in some scenarios. Does anyone have any experience with polyurethane or know why it's never used? One idea I had, was covering an enclosure with playing cards (or anything really) with adhesive spray, then going over the cards with a few layers of poly to give it a swee…

Basically those bars connect the hinges from the left and right of trunk lid. They are bent in that way to accommodate the 6x9 speakers. I am going to remove the speakers this week. Could I replace them with some straight bar???

I'm building a box that's, according to my calculations: 1.9959 cubic ft (not including port and .12ft^3 sub displacement), with a port area of 28.75 square in, and port length of 33 in. This box should get me about 32-33 Hz. This box is for a single 12" SI Mag that's going to be powered by a Sundown SAE-1000D. Anyway, this is only my second box build, and my box building skills ain't nowhere close to most on this forum. But I'm wondering how some of my problems will effect the actual sound of the sub. My problems lie in the port, which runs through one side of the box, and continues around the back of the box. So, these are my problems with the port: 1. The port a…

Hey Y'all, im new to this (Forum) well im in the market for some new subs and dont have a big multi thousand dollar budget becouse im only 17 and am working on a farm this summer, well any way i was looking at some Alpine 15"s and was doing some measuring/planning and ive come to realize that i dont have enough or much room in the trunk of my 89' ford thunderbird so im just going to stick with 12's and after seeing/hearing vid's on youtube of the Fi SSD's they sound like some pretty good/stout subs for the money. well i was noticeing that the subs have a rateing of 800 wrms and im guessing the maximum would be around 1,600-1,800 watts but ive been told these subs can hand…

I'm looking into aero porting my box for my 15 so I can save room instead of building the box around the port. According to the Torres Box Calc 20x20x20 gives me a gross of 3.66ft3. .2ft3 sub displacement, double baffle, .01ft3 bracing (estimated) and a single 6" aero from psp, puts me at almost exactly 3 cubes at 38hz. The sub is an AA Havoc 15 on a MB Quart discus 1500.1. So now my question is, I know 12-16in2 generic rule, but the calc says my suggested port area is 28-40in2, and the 6in give me 28.26in2. Is that enough port area using an aero? its only 9.14in2 per foot. sub would face back and the port up, or sub up port back either way. I'm trying to stay within 35-3…

i should have the money soon for the zcon 15 so i want to start getting ideas and thoughts on a box size for the sub. im putting it in my '95 ranger. for electric, i have a iraggi 260amp alternator, big 3, shuriken bt60 bat. and all 0 gauge wiring. i have a audioque 3500.1 that i will be running at 2 ohm (should have 2000watts which is plenty for 1 zcon 15) reason being is that it will be much easier on my electrical, and easier on the amp as well. im more for SQ on this build for those wondering. i love the low lowsss haha. i havent found any box recommendations so im looking for a bit of help. any is appreciated!

how exactly do u go about finding peak note to use in port wars? i know what to modify AFTER the port is made but how do u know which note to use? i was thinkin about throwin the meter in the box and sealing it up.. but... if i do this, will the car's peak note effect the peak note for port wars? or IS the proper tuning for port wars equal to SPL tuning?

I have a 2002 Silverado 1500HD crew cab that I am wanting to put 2 xl 12s in. I will actually be underpowering them a little with about 1300 watts a piece when wired together to .5 ohms. I am not wanting a blow through I just want a box that may not take up too much room so I can have at least one person ride in the back. What volume would the box need to be? And how much port area?

  16. Price completly aside, how much better sound quality would you get with door pods vs components in a fully deadened door? I have a Crown Vic and my main goal is to get the best possible sound out of the components I'm gonna be getting. I'm going with the Image Dynamics XS series components. If I get them in the doors I'm gonna go with stock size 5x7s(XS-57). If I do the pods I'll go with the 6.5s(XS-65). Again my main goal is the sound quality of the comps so if the door pods sound just slightly better, than I'll pass. If the difference is dramatic though, its something I'm really gonna take a look at. I know there are a lot of variables involved in anything like this s…

  17. I am going the wall route and am in the designing stages to make sure everything is going to fit. The issue I am having is with my ports... I can get my tuning around 35 which is where I want it when there is only 4 inches ^2 of port per square inch but I know that is WAYYY low. When I get my ratio of port in^3 to box volume right my tuning ends up in the teens.... what can I do? The dimensions I'm going with are 48 inches wide, 36.5 inches tall, 33 inches front to back. I just need some help with tuning... this is going to be a daily heavily demoed setup. edit** and the port in this picture is 17x8 which is about as big as I'm going to be able to go. And this setup is f…

Ok, I got my first 15" sub today. All I've ever dealt with before are 10's and 12's. At the moment I have a pair of 12's in the back of my 97 Grand am, each one seeing 1.25 cubes sealed. The box is easy to work with, I can have the whole thing pulled out in a matter of minutes. I would like to have something similar with this 15. One problem....the clearance through the backseat is only 13.5 inches, I believe. The space to go in through the back isn't very easy to work with either. If I build a box that has the sub laying on it's back with the cone up, I really think I'll lose a lot of the potential from the sub that I would normally get from rear-firing it. Also, I …

I have a beautiful box that was built specifically for my vehicle. Now im going a different direction with my setup and I want to lower the tune on the enclosure. I have done a little research and I know that decreasing the port width will lower the tune of my enclosure but i will have to sacrifice a little port area to do so. What are the pros and cons of doing this? By the way the enclosure is tuned to 35 hz and i would like to change it to about 30 or 31. I currently have 100 in squared port area.
