  2. Hi, I've read everywhere I could, but I get very different informations!!! My enclosure is about 4 ft3 and has a round 5.6"(diameter) PVC port; port length is 14". It sounds good, but I 've read that port area should be much bigger : 4 (ft3) * 15 = 60 sq inches. And my port is far from that. I don't really know the actual tuning, but I would like it to be around 30-32 hz. Do I have enough port area ? Or enough length? Enough port ? Please, help me !!!

how does this look? Used the RE calculator and it is confusing me a little bit. It is saying 4.58ft^3 volume with 105 sq.in. of port but when i do the math I get the volume shown in the box (in the drawing)... Sayd the tuning is 42Hz~ which is exactly what I am looking for but I wanted to make sure everything is good since I am getting conflicting numbers on teh box volume... Box is for a Mach5 SPL15

in the quest for possibly the best SQ to our ears, proper install would always be needed, proper positioning and aiming etc... but on the midbass install part on doors, sometimes we feel something still is lacking... even though we have done all the possible deadening etc needed. and ending up in trying to fit an 8" on the doors. modifying the door moldings and cutting through the metal sheet... Question is... is it worth it? destroying some parts the your car used as daily driven just for the midbass sound were looking for?

OK I'm finally going to begin my build next week sometime. The box will be a center console going from the dash to the back seat with 4 12" RL-p's facing up. My question is should I have the port firing forward towards the dash? Or firing back under the rear seat? This setup is going in an '05 Chevy crew cab. Thx for any help.

Ive made my own ported boxes in the past but nothing more than a rectangular ported box with f-glass. I dont want to pay a shop to make my box, I want to build it myself. Its a 2000 grand am. Back seat obviouslly removed. I dont really understand how to do the edges and different angles. to take up ALL the space. Or do I forget angles and just do what I can. I was going to do it all in fiberglass but that is probably a stupid idea and a stupid amount of work. The only other problem is how to calculate volume with so many different angles and how to exactly calculate how to measure the bracing and port volume. If anyone has a site to direct me to that deals with Wall setu…

alright, so i have a FI Bl 15" with, cooling, daily, universal d1. I am planning on building a new box because my current box only takes up 1/2 of my trunk which is in fact bad. Due to the trunk and how it is made there are two metal bars coming across the length of my trunk, and it makes my sub box aprox. 1 foot away from my trunk lid, which i think lessens the well initial BOOM, when i had my MTX JH55's in they sounded much louder when they were pushed back so i thought well "why the hell not build my own box" here are the specifications, i even made a pretty picture for you guys. ports from eD. (made in Google Sketchup!) Ideas, comments, suggestions? (some insight from…

well its that time of year again, when i have some money comin in. Hopefully this will be finished up in the next few months. its goin in my 84 cutlass. 2 Mach 5 MJ-18, off of a AQ 1200. the box is 10.97 cubes @ 34 hz, and 175 sq. inches of port. the bracing in the pics isnt what its actually gonna be like, i got in a hurry and just threw it in, ill be glassin the inside and usin thread rod. the corners will also have 45's. oh and its out of 1'' mdf. Comments or suggestions appreciated. demensions are 42 wide, 29 tall and 24 deep. It seems that a box that big with that much port would have horrible port noise, but supprising in the car none of my boxes have have ve…

I have an '04 focus Sedan and I want more midbass. I currently have some walmart pioneer 6x8s in the doors but I just bought some MLI65s and some peerless 2" fullrangers and I figured while I am taking the doors apart I should probably fix the giant holes. My doors look like this: http://www.reversestress.com/other/FocusDoorb4_293.jpg. Well not exactly, mine are red and they still have a bunch of foam on them. But anyway, my midbass sucks. How do I cover up these holes so I can better separate the back wave from the front wave? Oh, and I just bought an SAX100.4 to power them.

Just trying to figure all of this out. One site says figure your tuning dependant on port length, others say by width and height of port (square inches of port area). So what's the verdict? I have 2 SSA Xcon 18's wanting them in a 6.5 cuft (each) box tuned at 31 hz. Also, what is the difference sound quality and SPL wise between having one large port or a seperate port for each sub?

in a 4th order bandpass, is it generally better to have the magnet in the ported section or the sealed section of the box? it seems like you would get added cooling from having it in the ported side, but would the motor obstruct airflow to the port?

What's the best way to figure out the displacement for each one of these? They will be about 15.75" long & 1.5" in diameter. I used them on the last build I did for the blazer, and they held strong, and were easy to use. So I'm thinking of using them again with my next one. Thx for the help.

  20. I'm assuming if i had one of those woofer testers to pull the T/S parameters of a speaker, it would pull different specs if i took a single DVC subwoofer and tested it wired in series, then tested it again in parallel. Well, i dont have one so i'm gonna rely on those experienced here to relay some info to me. I will be using 4 subwoofers, 2 subwoofers per amp. Each pair of subs are dual 1 ohm. I have 2 ways of wiring this- 1 - Parallel both subs then series them to the amp 2 - Series both subs then parallel them to the amp Is there a difference in SPL potential between the 2? this info is pertaining to a meter, not the ear. I notice when looking at specs of subs, in gener…
