When using a PR in place of a port, you would keep the same internal box volume as the equivalent ported enclosure, correct?

I'm having trouble getting the right mass to tune a PR enclosure I got ~1200 grams when I used a calculator online but 158 grams when I used the mass of the air in the port as my starting point. I feel like i'm missing something. i'm aiming for 8cu @ 26hz with a single 18" and two 18" PR's What do I need to do to get the correct calculation? The reading seems straightforward but I keep getting these two opposing answers. Thanks, -Chris

Just as the title says, I'm paying this kid 10$ for a box design. He is going to be working with me to help figure it out what would be the best results, I think so atleast... Is that a decent deal?

How do you find or know your vehicles peak frequency? And how much high or lower than that should you tune you box for spl applications? I drive a 06 silverado extended cab.

I would like to know if you see any potential problems with mounting a peerless 6.5" mid bass speaker "in" the door pocket of my 2000 ranger. I currently have jl audio xr 5 x 7's (coaxial) in the stock location in my doors. They image like crap ( no real surprise there, a lot of the time it's behind my head or at my feet ). I've been playing with some T.B. W3's as well as some FR 88 ex's on the dash by the a pillars. I like the sound of the fr88's and am going to try going without tweeters. I also bought 2 peerless 6.5" sls mid bass (830946), which I plan to put in the stock door location (red square in pic) to see if like them. If I do, I plan to get 2 more 6.5's …

Yup, I think it's worthy of a new thread. Tomorrow I have to lug this PC out into the hot muggy humidity again, cuz as if it wasn't enough that the guy made me realize I could/should get so much more out of my tweeters with his Memphis 5.25 coaxials shredding my drums, but he went to bragging that his Anarchys and/or SA pro 8's could prolly do well in the 129dB class. So for the fun of it I went out and dropped the PXA-H701's from 50Hz to 25Hz, still 30dB/oct, left the Kicker at 50Hz 12dB/oct.... cuz I keep thinking about how the REW sweeps showed a cliff dive at 125Hz peaking again at 65Hz for another dive. I can turn them up to the same volume with no clipping, no excur…

This is for a project I'm working on. I've only ever done a slot port once that didn't physically bend but that was on a really small enclosure. This port is physical length of 12.5" and 6" width. Is this acoustic length right? I'm used to a slot port having a second leg and just adding 1/2 of the port width. For this enclosure, if the acoustic length is right on the pic then it will make nearly a 10hz change in tuning. Kind of a big deal. Thanks!

Figured these could get their own thread, so if anyone else wanted to join in, we'd have a place... Dave, in the center...placating the crowd around the Magnum, as there often is one Teh van in the lane, getting ready for the SQ test and SPL run. How the testing area was set up. Chad's dual Mag D2's...pretty asses Kevin's car getting ready, with the team from NC testing. Dave's doing...something. Beats me. The other Chad's amp rack/battery rack...the drill adds deebeez Motivation for Bucky. He's quiet. The guys from NC with an 18" Solo X And c'mon...a car audio show without the local fuzz showing up is..well, no fun at all Bucky is a menace to society...th…

What's up guys, I hope this is the right section. Having trouble figuring how to do my front stage in a 06 Charger. So I wanna see pics if any of you guys have a serious front stage in your Charger Magnum or 300. Also for this who wanna help, front door has a 6x9 which I have looked at and can make adapters for a 6.5 that's no prob. Now the dash has a 3.5, where I can put a tweeter or supertweeter. But that's not really what I want, I don't think a tweeter facing the windshield will sound any good. I have space on the door for a regular tweeter, but j still would like to see others before I proceed. Further notes, I can't fiberglass (would love a pillar tweets and mult…

I'm working on a home theater sub. It'll be an aa avalanche 18 in an 21 cu ft llt tuned to 15 hz. I'm trying to figure out how to cut the complicated bracing in this box design. So I was thinking if I got someone to CNC the bracing I can cut the rest of the boards and will have a much easier build. Any suggestions are appreciated. Here is a link. And some pics of the design. I have the google sketchup file, and was wondering if it would be able to make templates of each piece and print them on a plotter. Then I'd cut them to size with a table saw and cut them out with a jig saw. Link to build post

Well I'm trying to plan a fiberglass build for my twin 12" jl w6v2's that will be going in my WRX (sedan). I've asked around to get suggestions on how to go about the design, but noone seems to be able to help me with my question?? I know with a regular box your kind of limited to either just facing your subs straight back or straight foward... straight back, pushed up against the backseat usualy being "as good as your going to get" as far as cabain gain goes. What I've been trying to find out is, since sub orientation is just about limitless with fiberglass, what orientation will yield me the best possible cabin gain and sound in my trunk? Like facing the subs towar…

Just got about everything I need to start the build, so I am starting to design the enclosure. Did some searching on the site and haven't really found the answer to a couple of my questions, so I will post them up here. First the box is going to be for 4 RE SE12's powered by 2 SAZ-1500D's strapped. I have the 1/0 for power and runs, and am picking up 2 new batts for the back tomorrow. This all going in the Suburban. Box size ideally is going to be 8cu.ft. with around 128-157cu.in. for port. Will see if I can fit aero's if not I'll do a slot port and this is for daily. I have built and tried 3 different boxes so far. All peaked between 40-45hz, one box being 2 1…

Come summer/next fall id like to hit a few competitions and then head to daytona even next spring break. Because ill be finished with online classes and im officially done with soccer. the onlything preoccupieing my time will be work and cross country. As for ocmpeating, im doing competition on a budget. Id like to run my BX1205D it even less for power and run maybe a pair of 12's. Im thinking a pair of 187 12's in a 4th order bandpass. Ive always wanted to build "The Wicked One" to see how it performed. The 187's seem like a good canidate. Reletively high efficency, good Xmax, and reletively low inductance. For Competition i would build one with a wider throat for high…

Anyone here used plasti dip to finish a box with? If so how'd it hold up and how much area would one can cover? I was looking at some the other day at Lowe's and IIRC it said it was ok to use on wood, but MDF isn't wood.

I'm holding off on the 4 BTL's just for now until I get my money right but for now I want to know if this is a good setup? I plan on buying 5 of these (To Save Space) http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3835_Kicker+05C84.html This amp for subs http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9551_H...+TXi+1008D.html The box is going to be custom made (To fit the trunk) (Ported) maybe tuned to 27 Hz.,is 27 Hz. loud or should I tune lower? And its going in a 2004 Chevy Aveo. Im going to parallel wire the 4 ohm subs to 2 ohms. For a educated guess do you think I'll be hitting @ leats 140db? I…

Hey there! I need serious help building a ported box. Ive never had, nor built a ported box and i want to see for myself what the difference is. Ive tried every different box calculator i can find, but im sad to say there a little too complicated for me to understand. Im a rookie when it comes to car audio specs. Im a pro at listening tho lol. I want to learn more, a lot more, but everyone close to me dont want to teach, they want to charge. i could easily build a sealed box, but i really want to port my subs. I have 2 lethal injection 12's. I need 4 cubes, 60 square inches of port and i want it tuned at about 32hz. Space is not an issue. I took the back seat out of my ra…
