Looking for a decent laptop for under $650 ($500 or less would be ideal) and I'm laptop dumb. I don't do any gaming. I don't download movies/music or do any video editing. Just needs to be used for basic uses......Microsoft Office, internet (I'm going to purchase a wireless router aswell), and eventually I want to get the software and hardware for a MLS measurement system. So processor, RAM and HDD don't need to be industry leading, but I also don't want something that will overly limit future uses. For example, I would probably take a higher quality videocard over a huge HDD. I want a minimum screen size of 15" and DVD RW (which anymore seems to be the standard). I'…

Most of the old school ssa folks know me pretty well and I've been working on a project for while now called Alchemy Computers. I am located in Tulsa, OK and in a nice central location for shipping purposes. Alchemy Computers is a new computer line based around the mid-high end gaming market primarily. We do have some low end desktop systems that will be comming into play here over the next few weeks as well for the more budget friendly gaming market. Our aim is to build a unique computer to each individual. What that entails exactly is a more personal computer buying experience. Computer systems that are designed to fit the exact needs of the consumer and not fill them w…

  5. I'm in the market for a 22" LCD monitor for my music server. Constraints are that it needs to be under $350 after any rebates, and I don't want a lot of backlight bleedthrough. What would you guys recommend?

Got a PS3 a week ago and now I'm looking for some games. Anyone know how the interface is for the racing games? Better than the Wii? I like RPGs and racing games mostly. I've just about beaten Ghost Recon 2 and like it OK. Will probably get Rainbow 6: Vegas here soon. I also have a Wii. Looking for a good game or two for it as well. I have Tiger Woods '08 and play it a lot. I've beaten Resident Evil 4 3x over. Liked that one though it's not my typical genre. I've heard that the interface for racing games is a good bit flaky so I'm shying away from racing games for it. I got Super Mario Galaxy for the wife for Christmas and I'd like to find some other games that…

First off, I don't know much about computers so take that into consideration when replying please. Anyways, my new harddrive came in for my OmniFi. I pulled the old one out, plugged the new one in, partitioned it for FAT32, plugged it into my Omnifi, and well, it creates a file called "\USR\newroot.xml", but it need's to be "\USR\root.xml" instead. Now, everything went fine until I plugged it back into my computer to change the file name. I cannot find the drive on my computer anywhere. It does not show up on the My Computer tab, but if I go to "safely remove hardware," it shows up. Anyone know what my problem is and how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

I'm going to be getting some money in shortly, and I figured I'd put it towards my music computer to finally get it where I'd want... As it stands, I've got a Dell Poweredge 600SC running XP. 2.4GHz P4, 512MB cache, 256MB RAM. Hard drive right now is a Western Digital 250GB IDE, 8MB cache. Obviously, that's nowhere near enough storage for me. I was thinking about taking advantage of that guy that's selling WD 250GB drives over on CA.com for pretty good prices, Sean's mentioned before that the 2MB cache of those shouldn't cause a problem when searching/during playback...I have three open bays, what would be the easiest way to combine three drives so it looks like one ~750G…

<-- Noob I haven't ever had a wireless connection before as my old house was completely wired, considering this I am not sure of the proper & logical way to secure my wireless network. Amusingly, I can use my neighbors both here and at my old house but considering the price of routers these days wanted to install my own for flexibilty. So, any recommendations or primers on doing this the right way? I figure I am not the only one here not in the know so I thought I start a thread. Any input would be appreciated!

I'm buying my 13 year old daughter a keyboard for Christmas and I think she would enjoy hooking it up to her computer and mixing/composing some music with it as well. What INEXPENSIVE (well under $100) would you suggest for her? I need something that would be easy to learn and use but powerful enough that she wont get bored with it in a month.

Okay, so sometimes when I try to open certain pages, they'll load and as soon as they're done loading, FF closes. It will keep doing this, and it's completely random. One minute, it works on one site, then it won't. . . Anyone know what could be wrong?

So, my daughters PC needs to have RAID drivers installed for it to read a SATA drive.....and M$ in their infinite wisdom, has made it so you still need a floppy...booo..... So I decided to try to make a slipstreamed version of XP for my install. After hours of searching on the web for more information, I found a program that makes all the changes that a guy needs to get this done. nLite is what it is called. And, boy oh boy does it work. I am happy that I found a piece of freeware that actually works. So, if anyone else is interested in doing the same, may I suggest looking into this program.

Ok, so the old man just got connected to xbox live today . Played a couple of games, (burnout, forza, and guitar hero). How do I get world rankings. My ranking is just a - on the screen. Also, how and the hell can I play Guitar Hero online. I know these may sound like dumb questions, but you have to remember that it wasn't till college that computers got integrated into the classroom. HELP!! I'm trying to catch up with the youth. Thanks.

Well, I can't quite figure out how to make Winamp do this. I want to be able to have it random shuffle through albums, and then play through the album in order...and then once its finished with that album to move to another random album. Winamp seems to let me randomize from all the files, not really useful. Are there are players out there that can support this? And if you recommend Foobar, I want a link to something that's already configured
