I did a search in the other sub-forum and did'nt quite get the answer I was looking for. I am looking to get the wife an MP3 player for christmas. Looking at around an 8-16 gb model. What do you guys suggest. What features sould I look for. 1st choice is an Ipod Nano. What about the Zune, or Sandisk models? Just looking at input before I buy one. Thanks, Toolmaker Mods: If this needs to be moved, go ahead, just trying to get a more diverse suggestion.

I recently built myself a Q9300 (quad 2.5stock, OCed to quad 3.33 for daily use) with 4gb of RAM(OCed to 1114MHz) with a FSB of 1772MHz for daily. I built this pc mainly to be able to backup 1080p videos as i have done DVDs on this pc and has been phenomenal! 6-8 minutes on a 2pass encoding up to 3.5hrs worth of video complete. I also wanted to be able to do High Definition as well but i see that's more complicated. It took me approximately 3hrs 32min to 2pass encode a 2hr movie at 1080p. Everything will be around this if not higher in a couple yrs and that's when i want to build the next new monster... but what i am about to lay out IS A MONSTER. So, for those who alway…

Ok, I have a computer allowance for my day job and the budget is right around ~ $1500 USD, but can go a little higher then that. I am just looking for solid choices and reasons why they are the better choice. Main needs: Quad Core CPU (preferably i7) Strong GPU 4 - 6 Gig of ram decent size screen Reliability Uses: Heavy duty modeling and design SSA daily stuff BOINC crunching (very CPU and GPU intensive) Limitations, needs to be from Newegg or Amazon. I have been looking for over a week, and have had my eye on a couple, but wanted to get a few educated opinions. Bromo has been of assistance, and I wanted to see what a few other people thought. I had considered using t…

If you have an Xbox 360, and if you or somebody you know, needs some help. Here is a few links that could help. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=484726 http://llamma.com/ Let me know what you think, or have any questions, I may or may not be able to answer, but I've been dealing with these faulty machines for a while now lol. The best "quick fix" I have been using for a while now, is the Q-tip trick. Simply stick a q-tip in each fan behind the console for 5 minutes, you will notice two red flashing lights, pull out, let cool, and then power up Any comments are welcomed. Cheers.

Ok guys, here are my parameters: - My sister, brother-in-law and I are pitching into get a little TV for my mother to use in the kitchen when she is cooking or doing projects - My mother wants us to keep the budget under $200 as she is not really kicking-back to watch movies with it - She would prefer a flat screen around 19" - I don't want to buy a junker from Walmart So I am putting this out there to see if anyone knows of a better deal on line. Newegg has a few options, but wanted to use the power of the forum base to see if I can find better. Thanks guys.

Sick of networking BS between my XP & Win 7 machines with some on a domain and some not, so I am going to bite the bullet and upgrade. My hardware (i7 quad) is fine to support it, plan on just adding another hdd so that I can switch boot drives if necessary. The computer will run: Internet - primarily Office suite - Word/Excel/Powerpoint Interface with my Canon video camera & DSLR with associated LIGHT editing Act as a home automation machine - currently 90% of what I have will run on either Absolutely no gaming atm Pretty simple tasks, but what I've read knocks the 64 bit for some availability and capability of running some programs. Curious if there are other l…

<-- Noob I haven't ever had a wireless connection before as my old house was completely wired, considering this I am not sure of the proper & logical way to secure my wireless network. Amusingly, I can use my neighbors both here and at my old house but considering the price of routers these days wanted to install my own for flexibilty. So, any recommendations or primers on doing this the right way? I figure I am not the only one here not in the know so I thought I start a thread. Any input would be appreciated!

Alright I'm starting a topic here because there is a lot of discussion in the H0P and I wanted to keep it all straight My Dad wants a new desktop. Our current one has a Pentium 4 1.5Ghz, 512mb of RAM, 127gb HD (replaced after it crashed), DVD-RW (recently purchased) and a CD-RW all housed in a Dell Inspiron 4300 case. We have a mouse, keyboard, new flatscreen monitor and speakers that can all be carried over to the new comp. The reason he wants a new computer is because this one is getting ridiculously slow. I honestly don't understand considering we do the same thing on it for years (and recently had it reformatted when the HD crashed), but I guess parts just get old? …
