I recently purchased a MB SL380 for my wife for her birthday just recently. The previous owner "upgraded" the stock radio but putting in a basic cd player about 10 years ago and decided not to replace the 4" speakers in the dash but rather install some 6X9 in the space behind the rear seats. The plan is to install a new retro sound headunit with bluetooth capabilities, replace the 4" speakers with some upgraded stock replacements, and install a SSA four channel amplifier to power the speakers. In the near future I would like to install a small subwoofer in the trunk for some lows, the 4" speakers are going to provide anything below 100hz. Pictures posted belo…

Hey guys as promised started the center console build for two Fi Q 10s. Box specs changed quite a bit because of a too tall center console cushion, but it actually worked out better, I can now make it look a little more one off custom. Box Specs: H:14 W:15 L:30 Net Volume: 4 Inch Dimpled Precision Port Tuned at a hair under 28 Hz Box material was 23/32 Auracco Baffle was doubled for 1.5 inches Here are some pics, the box will be braced with some 1 inch dowels and polyfill will get wrapped around the body of the port along with the exterior being stained to match trucks woodgrain and hand rubbed to a mirror finish. Call me crazy but i cannot figure out how to post p…

I just traded my stroker for a new yellowtop, so I figured it's time for me to make another install. I decided to make a 4th order cut through running one 15" opti1532d. My main reason for running lanzar is because everyone I know thinks it's trash. I guess "trash" comes with a 4 inch voicecoil and 19mm xmax. I would of cut through my rear deck, but I'm not really experienced enough to keep that setup mobile in case I needed my spare tire. I cut through my rear seat, I believe I lost output compared to the deck, but this eliminated any rattling on the interior and exterior. I've already metered her, the loudest frequency is 32 hz and she does a 140.8. on the dash and a …

Ok the box was started today, but had to be started later in the afternoon because the installer/builders friend was in a car accident at 3 am yesterday so I told him to take his time and when he feels ready to start on his time. So this is the progress so far. I will be getting one more gallon of resin and order a roll of 19 oz glass mat for the bracing. I am going above the window line as you all can see. I will be triple baffling the face and doubling the MDF all the way around. This thing is a beast. With one baffle the height is about 24 inches, the width is 48 inches and the length is 52 inches. Big as hell I know. lol so get ready this box is about to be beastly. I…

I was approached a couple of weeks ago by a customer to build a box. He already had the design, only problem was school was getting busy for me, so i had to put him off a couple of weeks. I finally got some free time today to build it. The bedliner is drying as im typing this, and once its dry I'll be painting the port red (seems almost standard on SSA boxes...) and he'll be picking it up tomorrow, so I'll get a couple of pictures of it installed (and hopefully playing if its not raining). Specs: 6.8 cubes net 8.5" Octaport 32 hz All this going in a Dodge Caliber.

Alright, so I started my box build yesterday with a buddy of mine. It's 5.5 ft^3 roughly. It's sealed with a downfire mounted subwoofer. The subwoofer, as stated in the description, is a Dayton Reference HF 15" and will be powered by a Bash 500w plate amp. (4ohm) DAY 1 It was about 90 degrees yesterday with 94% humidity. Needless to say, we were a little warm. Just some scrap that we used from my first box build. Just mocked it up. DAY 2 Just had a little bit of time to work on it today. Here's a pic of the amp. And here is the only piece of wood I actually cut tonight. This is obviously the back plate. I plan on using an oak Formica to match my living rooms…

A lot more accurate on fast bass then you will ever expect and simply kills on rap and all low end bass. If you got the money, power and room, GET THIS SUB! That is a Hyfonics Golitath 15, MA Audio 12, and old school MTX Roadthunder 12 surrounding the DP21 Just a few measurements One 7.5 cubic foot box tuned to about 32hz for one full size Ford extended cab truck Power for the beast. Well the time has come for me to go ahead and show some progress with the truck. This thing has been through hell and back with me from repairing the lower intake manifold to having its fair share of abuse from low tuning. The first setup consisted of 3 18's on 2 AQ 2200's strapped with a single XS D3100 in the back for support. Let's just say this didn't work and had me reconing the subs. Best recorded score of the 3 18's before blowing them. Sadly, I bought an alternator that was actually sitting in the backseat at the time I was giving a demo and blew the subs. Unfortunate for me, it was a fuckin Tenney that didn't work! It looked nice and legit though.…

This is a very fun little build for one of the guys who was there at the very start of SSA. Back in 2001 Travis was my roommate, and helped me build lots and lots of customer rides. In 2007 he bought 4 of our very first ICONs, they've sat ever since he bought them in the sealed boxes. We the other day we cracked a few of them open, and decided to put them in his 2002 Ford F150. We fired it up today for the first time, and below is the results on just 1500wRMS.

So I am posting this a part of the criteria of the Second Skin Audio Promotion give away. I would like to start by thanking Anthony from Second Skin as well as everyone at Second Skin!! Now onto the review.. Upon pick up of the deadner as soon as i grabbed the box I knew the deadner would be great. You could feel it in the wieght of the box itself lol..! Any how I tossed the box into the trunk and instantly popped open the box and was at a loss of words when i saw how nice the black backing looks on this stuff. As I pulled out a sheet I could already tell Damplifier Pro was a much better deadner than Dynamat Extreme wich i have used in the past. It is not only thicker bu…

  24. So this will be my second build log on this forum. I don't think I took as many pictures this time either. But here we go, here is what was originally in the car. Had this Fi BL for over 4 years now, I say its a 2008 model but I am not really for sure. Surround is messed up but the main thing, the coil is still clean. Box was given to me, tuning was ~40hz (eww) with sub installed. Had running on the RF-T1500bdCP I bought until I put in the truck, had it slamming though. ^^^^^^Yes I love 5-minute amp racks!!!! It's in the next pic too with a new paint job. LOL Then I broke out my Memphis MC 1.1100, was still slamming, just wasn't getting LOW, like…
