Aside from LEAP's capabilities, is there any software out there anywhere than can graph, plot, or otherwise visually show a person what happens to the response curve (from a 0dB reference line) when they would apply say an 2.5khz LWR LPF -12dB filter, or even a 3.5khz HPF -6dB filter, or perhaps have 5 bands of parametric EQ each with the frequency, Q, and level to show what the effect those settings have on the baseline. My thoughts is that it might help to show and understand exactly what those adjustments are doing, how much they're affecting, and maybe to help get a healthier understanding of the interaction between all the settings by being able to see it without s…

A few people on this board have asked me about group delay, I mention it from time to time. Here is a good primer Dan Wiggins wrote about it: http://www.audiodesignguide.com/Sub/SIGroupDelay.pdf Hopefully this will help some of you! -Mike

I might mess around with this sometime this week. +.6 v would do me good The second link is for float voltage, no need for it, but hooking it up to a switch wouldn't be bad. for a shtf moment while driving. http://www.smartgaug...uk/alt_mod.html http://www.smartgaug.../alt_float.html ---------------------------------------

If you don't want to read my rant: Can someone explain how setting an amp with a DD-1 on track 5 with a 40Hz -10db can still cause me to overdrive my sub with STANDARD music. If I play my sub at 40 out of 47 volume for 1 hour, should the dustcap be warm? Hot? No change at all? 40/47 is less than the rated 1500 watts of the BL (at least at my best guess, especially at 13.8V instead of 14.4V). I want to protect my $1,000 investment in my trunk. I have had a blast with my new Fi BL 15. My head unit's "unclipped" volume is 47 out of 50, and I have never had it past 40. It is very loud, and with a 1500W RMS rating, it is probably getting 1200W at Vol. 40 hooked up to a R…

My main goal is SPL but I will use it as a daily driver so i dont want the sound quality to go to shit.

JL HD 600/4 - Channel 1 does NOT work!! i had all the connections checked and everything, but it's defective somehow. i got it to play after switching back the slope switch a couple of times, and then it would play for a little bit. then there would be some cackling, then the signal would just completely die in Channel 1. i can get it to play for a few minutes if i play with the switches on the amp, but that's about it. has anyone ever heard of this? i had my entire stereo installed by a JL dealer near me

I've been doing a lot of thinking and pondering how to get the sound stage and imaging in my Jimmy even better. The thought of tossing the components for an 8 or 10" midbass and some full rangers in custom pods has crossed my mind many times, along with rebuilding the door installations with something that puts the aiming pointing right where it should and going with an active setup consisting of a 7" midbass and a large format tweeter. The latter brought me to a though as to exactly what constitutes on or off axis. Is on axis just directly aimed, or is there a few degrees of leeway there that can allow a person some wiggle room before it's considered off axis? As it …

okay so a couple weeks ago my first h/o alt that i had singer instal a self excite and extrenal reg. on started being all buggy and sometimes not charging at all when i would turn on my car, well it just finally started getting colder in mn so I kinda wondered if that was the problem, anyway i already had a better alt on the way, a mechman 320 self excite. and when i installed it i was in a friends heated garage, and it fired up right away. Now every morning on my way to work it takes like 5-10 minutes of straight battery power before the alt kicks on. however if I drive home from work, get same problem, but then maybe an hour after car sits when i get home I go out aga…

I've never really tried my hand at making a great sounding front stage, I usually buy a set of components and throw an amp at them. This time around I would really like to understand what makes up a great front stage and why. what about cone size, do you start with choosing a tweeter and then work your way down to the mid woofer? Help me better understand the things I don't know.

I despise "Which brand/driver" type threads but unfortunately, in helping my son, I am hitting just that. 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. Waiting on HO alternator. 3 Die Hard Platinum batteries. 2 runs of 1/0 positive 1 run 2/0 as a negative connected to frame in 3 spots System layout: 2 ea. JBL GTO14001 amplifiers each driving a DD9012 sub in a ported enclosure. Each sub in it's own chamber each sub wired to achieve a 4 ohms DCR at the amp. JBL GTO1004 4 channel amp 100X4 Image dynamics wave guides acoustic open cell foam inserted in the throat to cut down on some of the screechiness. Really helped! Crossfire compression drivers and the crossfire passive/frequency shaping cr…

I read this a while back, not sure if i posted it or not. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Optimum Speaker Placement An often asked question by consumers on our tech support line is: "What's The Best/Optimum Speaker Placement"to achieve perfect imaging? The attached images show good speaker placement and speaker angle for both door/kick panel and A-pillar installs. Try to get as close as possibly to these speaker placements and speaker angles on your installs and imaging will always be improved/close to perfect. Stock door panels are often more than 30% muffling up clean clear…

Well as it sits my subs were wired in series at the sub, then parallel at the amps which were strapped together. Putting each amp at .5ohm Apparently, if I wire the subs to be parallel at the sub then wire each sub to it's own amp with each amp still at .5ohm. It will increase coil efficiency. When wired in series you get double the amperage but half the voltage. Causing heat to build up and efficiency to be lost. In parallel it does the opposite, you get half the amperage but double the voltage. So you still get the same amount of power, it' s just with a higher voltage causing less heat build up and higher efficiency. Which is where the gain comes from Which makes sense…

Hi all , I´d like to know if it matters at what voltage an amplifier makes their wattage .. is it more difficult to make an amplifier that has an higher voltage output , say 100Volts vs. 200Volts to keep amperage lower ,and why ? are the coils of drivers calulated to take a certain ratio of watts and amps ? do amplifiers of different brands but but same output have about the same voltage and amp output or are there big differences ? writing this I realize these questions sound pretty nooby , but I´ve never heard anybody talk about this ,while I´d think that it would matter , or at least on the high power amplifiers .... or are the amperages still so low it just doesn´t ma…

So, I figured this should be in the Advanced topic section because unless i'm the first with XS Wireless batteries, something abnormal is happening here. I've been testing and noticing some odd readings last night but i'll leave that aside for now... The new reading i got today was just flat out impossible- I have 1 12v battery sitting here. IT HAS NOTHING connected to it's positive terminal! Nothing is touching it, ran to it, etc. The ground terminal is paralleled with 11 other batteries. I set meter to Ohms. Probe the Positive terminal to the battery that has nothing on it. The other probe is ran to the Positive terminal to the next closest battery that is paralleled…

Alright. I've got to get this perfect. I'm LOVING the Bravox CS60K's. The output, mid-bass authority, and overall quality of sound is fantastic. They're truly a great set for the price I paid. The problem I'm running into with them is very common with speakers/components in their price range however and that is either beaming or break-up. Not sure exactly what the difference is just yet, though I do have a pretty good idea, but somewhere in the 4k area it's almost ear piercing on CERTAIN songs. It seems some of the songs have a lot of material in that range 2-5k that just causes them to nearly make your ears bleed, or so it feels. Then other songs couldn't be smoo…

Brad and Sean, I imagine you guys will be the most help here but I'm looking for anyone's input with insight here. I have noticed a bit of an acoustic phenomenon in both my vehicles that I'm sure exists in others but I'd love to figure out how to adapt or harness it to be put to real use. I'm also looking for the exact reason the acoustics work this way. In my Jimmy, for example, I have the doors deadened with CLD and CCF (MLV is in the works) and the Bravox components are mounted in good heavy MDF baffles. They sound great with good strong midbass and can even extend fairly low for their small size and low HU power. My only complaint is that they're a bit "forward" o…

Do any of you notice how if you look at rims on a car rolling down that street while playing a song with a high frequency that you can actually see the individual spokes almost like its slowed down. Its a trippy effect. Sometimes people rims will also look like there jumping up and down on some bass notes. I also get this similar effect when i play a 50 hz and up frequency while looking at led lights ( xmas lights, BMW spoiler Brake lights) these lights also move to the bass..It is an awesome effect very entertaining! I was wondering what is causing this and does anyone else experience this?? I think it has something to do with our eyes moving at the same frequency as whi…

Hey, I just bought a Velleman HPS10 oscope a couple days ago. Im trying to configure it, but am stuck on one step. I cant set up the x10 measuring probe. I set the scope and probe to the 10x position. I also set the voltage/division to 1v and time/division to .1ms I think I set it to AC mode too. Does the "~" sign symbolize AC mode? When I touch the "Probe Test" point on the back of the scope, the screen of the oscope doesnt appear to show a signal because its blank. The directions say to adjust the trimmer. What exactly is the trimmer? Also, should the negative probe be grounded in this step? If so, what should it be grounded to? Thanks in advance for the help.
