Well since ascendant has slashed the price on the Assasin more than likely assasins will be in my GF's moms truck and my GF's car. For my GF's car if a wicked one just wont work the way i want it to this is my idea...Transmisison line in a false floor. I have a few questions though, Would it be a good idea to put the speakers (probably two assasin 10's) 1/3 down the line to eliminate harmonics from the transmission line? Ive read death stories about improperly designed transmission lines ending up sounding more like organs than SQ enclsoures because of harmonics . Also, Does anyone know of a formula for how much X ammount of stuffing will dampen the sound of speed X a…

  4. Hi everyone, new guy here. I'm a mechanical engineering student/intern at the moment and have had a passion in audio for nearly a decade now. I took it upon myself to design an enclosure for a pair of Demon 10"s for my civic hatch. I'm pretty happy with the punchiness, but the lower end is lacking pretty significantly and sounds "blown out" or "not really there" instead of "deep". I'm hoping to get some insight on where I went wrong with my design. As you can see, this is a non-traditional enclosure where the port effectively shares 4 walls with the enclosure on the outer sides. The design was done this way to maintain a specific outer dimension that fits like a glove in …

just a small topic that always seems to be explained without being explained. --------------------------------------------- amplifier Gain and DMMs. Most guides that talk about gains and DMMs are a bit simplified. you may want a higher or lower gain. Obviously to set the gain you would need to ask yourself what you are trying to accomplish by setting the gain! but this is overlooked in most guides. --------------------------------------------- ** most guides assume you want maximum undistorted power output from the amp ** Q -- What's wrong with that??? A -- you may not want maximum power. ---------------------------------------------- When you wouldn't want maximum powe…

Ive had my 1 rfr3110 in a regular square-ish prism shaped ported box no polyfil and at first all I wanted was boom. At higher volumes, theres a noise that I dont know how to describe, but I think its just reverb from within the box or something. Now im tired of boom and really want smooth bass, just LOUD smooth bass. By the way, its in a chevy lumina trunk, stock battery, will have 200A alt, 1x dub8001 (i know, not the best by far...). I have another sub (same kind) and amp (same as the amp im using) and im just saving up for an alternator, so in the meantime Ive been thinking of boxes that will help boost sound quality and eliminate standing waves. The point for this top…

I'm not sure if this is in the correct forum or not, because this isn't quite as technical as the other topics I searched through, but hopefully this one will do. I've got a friend from work who's son has an amp that is not working. I don't know a whole lot about amp repair, but I know how to check diodes, transistors, and simple stuff with a meter (no oscilloscope at my disposal unfortunately), so I am just taking a look at it for him. I dont have a whole lot of description about what the amp is doing, but from what he tells me, the amp will come on, won't go into protect or anything, but the subs will pop and them hum continuously. The first thing that came to my mind i…

My buddy recently bought a 94 Cadillac Seville, and the radio wiring was so ghetto rigged so he went to rewire everything. While wiring, something shorted and now his instrument cluster will not work at all. We pulled the dash apart and tested the power leads and the would get power right before the fuse blew and all the accessories worked fine without issues. So we figured theres a short in the factory wiring. We bypassed all the factory wiring and and gave it constant power right off the ignition and fused it the same as the factory fuse size. Still blowin fuses. The problems arose when messing with the factory radio. The radio would cut out at medium volumes. We took a…

  11. Ok before I get flamed I know I'm retarded for what I did to this amp.. Ok here is the deal I tried using another brand of bass knob so I had a clipping light.Well long story short it worked for about 5 seconds and blew the inline fuse. I tried reconnecting the AP knob and a new fuse it blew right away as soon as it powered up. Then same thing With no knob connected I checked inside the amp everything looks and smells ok did a few more test with a small fuses and used speaker wire as a jumper i can't get the power light to even come on for a secondbut the amp is turned on by the remote.. the top lights up just not the power or protect led's The amp is **** near new just w…

  13. im building a sealed box for the well of my 87 trans am for 2 rl-p 12s. i'm having a bit of trouble getting 1.25 cubic feet for each speaker but i think i've found a way. however, im not sure if it will screw the sound up. im using a single chamber, not one for each speaker. does if matter if i have a bit more of the airspace on one side of the box? http://thirdgen.org/techbb2/showthread.php...threadid=306257 here is the link to the plans. what i want to do is extend the bottom section so that it comes over further at the bottom, where it sits way down in the well. the dimension on there that says 22 1/2 i want to extend to the left side of the box about 2.5 or 3 inches.…

  14. I need to know exactly what mechanical failure is to a sub woofer. I know this is a rookie question, but I need some technica answers as I think it's the reason for my sub's death. Or can a sub even break due to this. I am 110% sure it wasn't because of thermal failure. The voice coils look brand new when I took it apart. Yes I took it apart and ordered a recone before asking. I know part of it was due to playing freq. lower than box tuning and using bass boost. What part of the sub breaks or what does the coil look like when it dies mechanicaly + 1,000,000 other questions I have but i'll start w/these. Thank's.

  17. Hi all , I´d like to know if it matters at what voltage an amplifier makes their wattage .. is it more difficult to make an amplifier that has an higher voltage output , say 100Volts vs. 200Volts to keep amperage lower ,and why ? are the coils of drivers calulated to take a certain ratio of watts and amps ? do amplifiers of different brands but but same output have about the same voltage and amp output or are there big differences ? writing this I realize these questions sound pretty nooby , but I´ve never heard anybody talk about this ,while I´d think that it would matter , or at least on the high power amplifiers .... or are the amperages still so low it just doesn´t ma…

I'm going to use this to bring up questions I have or to discuss certain things I've thought about so I can get a better understanding of it. Please be patient with me though as I am still quite young. The first thought I have is about inductance. Does the cemf have much effect in the range of subwoofers? What about inductance modulation?

I was thinking about speaker and amplifier resistence with all these RMS threads and Iron laws going around........I remember once checking the ohms of my driver which was a dual 2 ohm driver.......it was 2.12 ohm in the box and 1.97 out of the box...........when the sub was hooked up to the amp (amp shut off and no music) the resistence was like 2.75 or 3 ohms............why would this be? Ok I was watching Mythbusters last night and they were making a wind tunnel. They used a "honey cone"effect by using straws to help the air transition to the tunnel from the fan (or blower) better. I was wondering if this could be put to use in the car audo world??? Make a regular slot port and fill it with straw (like) tubes to the proper length. Very little surface area per straw and lots of straws. I was just wondering about that last night and figured I'd see if anyone here has ever tried or thought about it??? Your incite is appreciated... Jon

Ok I've been trying to do a lot of reading about the more technical side of audio. I was thinking about different styles of port and how they effect the output of the box. So on to my main question. What if you had a circular port that started off small and grew into a larger diameter. Say it begins as a 3" port and ends up say a 10" port (pulling numbers out of my butt) What advantages or disadvantages would this have?? If you think about it wouldn't it make it louder?? When you helling into a cone your louder, or when you cup your hands around you mouth your voice is louder then without. Wouldn't the same apply for car audio applications??? Any informative incite would …

Lil while back I'd tried a TL in my grand am. Kind of just to do it... I don't recall the exact specs on it, though it is still in the garage, so I could measure as need be. It twas not very large. I ran it with a Vega Vega 12" at the time. Very clean nice sound, not so much extension... but I believe the line was too short. The reason I stopped running it was that with higher musical notes (low 40's - upper 50's), the woofer would bottom out. Only in this enclosure had I ever had this thing bottom out. I tried a Visonik 126S4 that I'd had laying around, similar wattage (250rms actual), and very similar results. Point of the thread: What kind of EBP or mechanical propert…
