So I bought my Head Unit, Pioneer DEH-P4200ub. Bought all the installation gear I needed. I connected the wires correctly and when I plug everything in the unit turns on but the speakers aren't working. With the factory radio they work fine. I called best buy and the dude said that because I have onstar I need a special harness that's 100 bucks, and if I don't use it that the door chime won't work and the check engine light will come on. So my question is do I really need this special harness to make the speakers work as well? Is there any way I can bypass this? Or am I just not hooking it up right?

I have been thinking about making some quality Big 3 kits, and just want to kind of take the forum's temperature about the idea. Ordering will be easy, simply give me the three lengths you need from mounting hole to mounting hole(for me, this will = terminal hole to terminal hole). Here's a rundown of the parts/process. 1) Wire being used will be the new black Audio Technix 1/0 CCA wire. 2) Terminals will be tinned copper to resist corrosion. 3) All wire/terminal connections will be crimped via a hydraulic crimper for a connection that will never wiggle loose or back out. 4) All connections will be finished with some black heat shrink tubing for a clean look. Do you guy…

This wouldnt be really recommended for those who do not compete so I'll tell you now that this isn't necessary or needed for normal use of an amplifier. But for those who want the most out of their amps on the meter, read on... I am going to be getting into some projects soon for the car audio comp world and start making my own everything... I have several plans laid out for the competition world and for starters, i plan on making some multi insert wire blocks. Basically what it is is this- (for amps that accept 1/0 inserts only at this time) It would be a block of copper that inserts into the amp's power\ground terminal then outputs in a manner that can accept 2 ring ter…

The car is a Mercedes CLK55 2001, I have 2 amps 1 is 300 watts(150x2@4ohm), one is 1300 watts (1x1300@1ohm). For a total of 1600 watts. I have a Kinetik Power HC1800 as a second battery witch is to NOT let the lights dim if the system is under 1800 watts, unfortunately it does dim in the cabin and the amp for my front speakers sorta cuts out at loud volumes. once when i went from drive to reverse it didn't engauge and i had to put it in drive lower my system and put it in reverse, this has only happened once and i was beating really hard (i have not tried this again nor do i want to). I had a lexus 2002 ES300 before this and i did not have this problem, same setup. The 2n…

has anyone had a remote that went on and off, i checked the voltage from the wire that comes directly out of the deck and it goes on and off intermittently. the deck is very old and seen a lot of abuse, my question is can i splice my remote wire with another to achieve the same effect or am i stuck buying a new headunit, i guess i could run a wire from some 12v source and throw a switch in between but that's a hassle.

What build houses make most internet brand amps. Is a crescendo 3.5ks any different than a AQ 3.5k and so on. What's makes one brands quality better it worse when its all the same shit.

I want a new Head Unit and i've seen this idea done before on SMD.. i didn't stick around to see it through though. I'm concerned about the fact my system might not be capable of being powered by an iPad. I'd have my dash fiberglassed for a nice fit. What would the PROS and CONS be? The system would consist of (2) Sub Amps ( around 8k ) and (1) Front Stage Amp. ( 4x100 ) Would it be possible to hook up? If so, HOW?! Also.. heres some other questions i have. How would I keep it charged? The EQ.. whats your guys thoughts about how i would set it up? -- Would it be the same as a regular Head Unit? Would it be possible for my equipment to fry the inside of the iPad? -- to m…

Alright.. So my Iphone has decided to stop working with my head unit. When i plug it in, it will either automatically go to error-01 (communication error). BUT, it also does something else I find very strange. It will sometimes play the very first song on my ipod. Doesnt matter whether I go to playlists, or certain artists, it will always switch to all songs and play the first song according to alphabetical order. (My headunit doesnt let me control songs through my ipod, i always need to switch using the head unit which is normal.) Ontop of this, if it starts playing the first song, i cant skip it, fast forward or even pause. This all causes it to go into an error-01…

Sup folks, I have a friend that is trying to figure out a way to make a mini ipod work with his stock cd player. THis is what he is trying to do and figure out. Can you tell me if its possible and if so how do you do it? "I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra SE with the factory head unit (CD/TAPE/CHANGER CONTROLLER DOUBLE DIN) and it doesn't have any inputs on the back other than a 12 pin connector for a cd changer (which I don't have). I'm trying to make an auxillary input out of the cd changer input so I can wire my iPod directly into the reciever for higher quality. In theory this should be possible assuming there is a way to get the reciever to switch over to the cd changer i…

When I installed my alt. it metered out at 14.9 at idle at 260amps. Driving home today I noticed the battery light came on... As soon as I pulled in the driveway I slapped a DMM to everything! Now on all my points I read 26.5 to 27.3 volts....WTF!!!!! I haven't touched a thing since I installed it. What in the hell would make this alt decide it now want to spit out almost twice the voltage? I'm yanking it out for now and putting in the stock alt...(I know it's good) I've had issues with this thing since day one with the annoying whine it puts out of the housing..... Besides the noise it worked excellent...UNTIL NOW!! Any advise would be nice if anyone has any input.. Than…

Hello, I am wanting to upgrade my OEM alternator before I blow it . I am looking at an Iraggi 200 amp for $399 or 220 amp for $439. I dont mind the extra $40 so I am thinking 220 amp. Mechman is also an option as many people in my area give good reviews. The only downside is they dont make one for my car. If they did I wouldnt be writing this. Currently I have a 2009 Toyota yaris 4 door sedan. 1 JL Audio 1000/1 powering 1 15" Fi BL Loaded. Also 1 600 x 4 amp for mids and highs. I have another JL 1000/1 sitting in my closet begging me for some action. I want to do the alt. upgrade first then Big 3 then a yellow top or kinetik or something. ( Im upgrading grounds imm…

well thing is i had my alternator guy build me a high power one for my truck and for some unknown reason at times, mainly early in the morning when its cold out still my alt will be charging from 14.4 bouncing up and down to 15.5v ive takin the alt to my alt guy and he put it on the bench and said it tested good no problem... well thing is it only does this early in the mornings every now and then, but later on in the day it charges normal 14.4v just fine. i got no warrenty on the alt so anything that he does to it ill have to pay for. so if 15.5 wont hurt any of my equipment ill just leave it alone for now, otherwisee i gotta pay him to put anew regulator in it and just…

Alright so I have been waiting to get money for 1/0 wiring and then my friend who is in an automotive electrical class in a local college here messaged me and said that he thinks 4 awg would be big enough for my big 3 Since my alt is only a 70 amp alt and He read that 4 awg should carry up to 150 amps.. At least in that short of a run (1ft-5ft runs) Just wanna make sure if this will work before I buy it in about 45mins. I dont have enough yet for all the 1/0 but I have enough to afford 4 awg if it is good enough now. After he said that i figured well 1/0 can carry more current at a time and quicker.. but.. If my alt only puts out 70 and 4 awg can carry 150.. Is there…

I was doing some thinking.. Taken from http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wire_calculator.asp quote: Because music is dynamic in nature, it will be easier for the amplifier to reproduce than test tones. Our testing has shown that it is typical for an amplifier to consume on average roughly 50% of its maximum input current on such. If it is consuming 50% of its max input current on average, isn't it correct to say that when playing music, the amp might have peak outputs of up to 3000Wrms, but on average, might only give out 1500Wrms (over the length of an entire song).. so from that theory, isn't a 3000Watt amplifier better suited to play a 1500Wrms sub?? thoughts?

Ok, so the tittle may be a little confusing. Sorry about that. But what I am trying to get a answer for is to know whether or not, 1 watt, equals 1 watt? For example, lets say one company claims 1000 watts rms @ 1 ohm. And some other company claims the exact same thing. Now if we set these two amps up to a controlled vehicle/setup, why would one seem louder, or just plain oh better than the other? Obviously the main possiblity would be because someone is not providing that 1000 watts, but lets say we testing both amps the exact same way, with sophisticated equipment and techniques, to find out that they are putting out exactly 1000 watts. Then what could be the reason? T…

Is changing passive crossover same as changing headunit EQ? like i have a 9 band parametric EQ on my alpine 164-bt. and i have alpine spr 60c component speakers. the highs are very harsh. and im debating attempting to mess with my doors to edit the crossover. i have absolutely no clue what im doing with it. and dont want to risk much. i cannot find any videos for the year my car is. i have 2013 hyundai elantra coupe. only video i saw was for a 2005 elantra, 4 door. mine is a 2 door also and many years later. and about the passive crossover. i cant find any pictures only or guides on how to change and edit the crossover? what exactly is an EQ changing…

If one's amp would be clipping, resulting in a blown sub, is it a permanent issue? Or does the gain, bass eq, and other filters need to be tuned to insure that it won't happen with the new sub?
