So on this next run I plan on running my amps not strapped. I know how to gain set with a DMM. Xovers I typically do by ear. My plan of attack is to DD-1 both amps, check output voltage of both amps and match to the one with less output. Now I'm not worried about setting the LPF on the amps since I can do that via the HU. My only area of concern is the SSF. I'm a little fuzzy on gain matching with the SSF. Do you play your selected tone of choice (lets use 30hz in this example) continue to turn the filter up until you see a dip in output voltage? Then repeat on the second amp. I'll most likely use Y-splitters for the RCAs to ensure proper distribution of pre out voltage i…

seems like this only does it on these amps, any other brand amps i never really noticed this...but anyways, ill have a speaker connected, and ill have the gains on 0. i gradually put the gains up, and the loudness/volume doesnt move. it gets louder only when i get to like right before 3/4 of the way up....is that normal? does this on both of my 150's and both of my 45's... i just think thats odd, like ill put the gains at 1/2, and its the same as having the gains at 0....

Ok, I'm sort of a newb at the whole gain setting thing, I just got a Sundown SAZ-1500D from Chris at Db-R and I was setting it with the volt meter, 2 ohm load, 800 watts rms, should be about 40 volts. I tuned it there, with the bass boost all the way off, bass knob up to max. Hooked up the speakers, and It wasnt very loud. My Lanzar 230 was louder. So I did it by ear, listening for any clipping, and I started to barely hear any distortion so I backed off till it was a good clean sound. I retested with the voltmeter and it was at 55 volts. I'm running 2 Memphis M-Class 10's in a Memphis prefab ported box until I can get some 12's. Is it ok to run with the volts this high i…

hey everyone i am having trouble setting my gain on my us amps xt1600.2. i am using a dmm to set it and have discovered that i need to come up with a 66.3v reading at 1100 watts rms and with my sub wired at 4 ohms. i am running my headunit at about 25 which is about as loud as i want to go because the door speakers are starting to distort and sound like ass but when i do this i am only coming up with a voltage of about 20v. this is with the gain cranked all the way and my question is could this hurt anything? since im not even close to the 66.3v i am supposed to be at (someone might want to double check that for me..i would appreciate it!) could i possibly be doing an…

1st off let me say that a dd1 is not currently available anywhere around me at the moment. And I just got my system installd so I wont be able to afford a dd1 for a month or 2. Also no shops around me have a scope (dont ask me how they set their gains). So I have to temp DMM set it. Question is ive read alot of people saying to set it to the HU preouts which would be 2volts. Even on volume 29 the gain is pretty much all the way down at 2 volts. Or do I set it from the watts/ohms chart that ive seen around the web? Which would put me around 38-42volts? Which of the 2 should I go by? Also what setting do I set the DMM to, I know its Vac, But is it 200, 2000, ... ? Any info …

I have a Soundstream TRX 2.550 and I need to properly set the gains for my subs. I checked the sticky in this section and it says to use the frequency that the bass boosts uses. My boost is +18 from 35-80hz. So what tone should I use?? I wish I didn't have to use the Bass boost knob but I have no other way to turn the subwoofer level down as I am on a factory stereo. If I turn the bass down on the factory stereo it turns the bass down for all speakers making it sound bad. Thanks

I have been messing around with my amps and gains the past few days and have a question. I have been trying to set both amps using a DMM and some test tracks (55 and 1k hz). When I run these tracks, I can get the gain set using the multimeter, yet as soon as I put in any music cd's, it is quiet. When at 26 on my deck, the tracks read 22V and 14V for the sub and speaker amps, respectivly, yet when I run music at the same level, it only reads like 5V and 2.5V... Is music suppose to run quieter or would it be ok to up the gain a little?

I have a jl 500/1 gains are supposed to be set at 31.6 v ac. I have tried two different decks at 3/4 volume with bass flat and with the gain turned all the way down Im getting 40 volts using 50hz signal at 0db. the sub 12w6 sounds loud with the test cd but barely audible with music. Is there anything obvious to look for? thanks Todd

I tried to set the gains on some amps with a DMM and a test tone cd but I could not read the good values on the DMM. One of the Amps is an sax 1000 Sundown at 1 ohm : so I should read sqr(1000 x 1) = more than 30 volts. I don't remember the right number, but I had the good number when doing it. the maximum I read was 21.7 volts, withe knob to the max! What may be the problem? How can I do the good settings? The DMM is brand new, maybe it is a bad one. Hope not! So, I had to set it by ears. Help me, please!

Im trying to make the things in this thread My link click, but with pain killers and a little booze (knee surgery) I want to make sure I sort of understand what is being said and how it applies to my situation. I have a newer bmw that has a factory amp for the subs. I tapped into the speaker wires to the subs with a LOC to add an amp and a sub in the trunk. Everything is up and running but there is one problem. The factory adjustments on the stereo system only allow the volume to go so high , to the point that distortion is not really possible. Does this mean that the sub volume is only going to go so loud also? No matter what the gain is set to like an anti dont even get…

heey guys i have a Fibl 18un wiht cooling dual 10hm to a jbl gto1200 amp going at 1200watts rms. so orginally i set the gain by ear and had it at little less then 3/4s of the way. Then i set it using the voltmeter and play a 50hz tone with my radio volume 3/4 and i set it to 47 My math for it was 1200X2 then take square root u'd get around 49. but when i did that and played bass i love you at about little less then 3/4 it was barely flexing before it was just dancing adn it not as loud and it sounded like there was more stress on the sub. Got any advice?

as of now my gains are set to the max preout voltage of my headunit (just got a dmm the other day), so pretty conservatively. but now that I am going to set them more aggressively with the dmm, i want to make sure not to send a clipped signal to either my mids or subs, but for both, i'm going to be using the full rated RMS of my amps. so my question is: is there any way to know if my amps will be able to do rated without clipping? if you just have to guess based on the amps, the amps are: a TMA 320.4 (4-channel from JL's entry level brand) and a Massive P1000.1 (at 4 ohms) no, i don't have an O-scope

Just like the title says. If my woofer can handle more that what my amp can throw at it, how would I go about setting my gain to absolute max without clipping? If you say you can hear it then please record me a sample and send it to me so I can hear it for sure. Thanks jerry

Hello! This is my first post here. Crossing my fingers that I'm not breaking any forum rules. I have a 12 inch GCON ordered and the wait is killing me already. I've already purchased an amp and box for this sub and I'd like to have any willing opinions on my choices. The amp: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_43132_Hifonics-GLX1800.1D.html The enclosure: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_19279_Belva-Sub-Box-1SV12B-Belva.html A few questions: How did I do? Will this pound like crazy? How much impact will my smaller than suggest enclosure have on the sound? Ported good? How should I wire this beast-sub to this amp? (I'm thinking just running it at 650w @ 4ohms t…

I'm in the process of adding a pair of 12" GCONS to the stock Fender stereo system in my 2012 Volkswagen GLI. The subs will be in a sealed enclosure from DC Creations are going to be powered by a Kicker ZX1000.1 (1298w rms according to birth sheet) controlled through the LC2i. I have 2 questions about some adjustments I'm unsure of 1) When setting the gains using the DMM method to obtain the corresponding output voltage for the amp's rated capacity (1000W RMS) - I need the most clean power I can get from this amp. Should I be using 1298w as stated on the birth-sheet to come up with the voltage number I'm looking for? or should I be using 1000W as rated. 2) With the LC2…

What is the difference in using a AGM battery instead of a Gel battery when running a secondary battery for an audio system? If the Ah and Reserve Capacity are the same or very similar in both batteries, then how do they differ?

Ok , This is the question at hand say someone is looking to sell a amp, what would be a fair price to ask for a Soundstream 500/1 rubicon old school blue case??? I ask cause I have been holding on to 3 of them for use. But have decided to see what they may be worth and move on.. Thanks for any replies in advance from the people of this great forum.... Hawk

I was wondering if you buy an amp, if you can send it back to kicker without going through a dealer? Is there special things for competitors or what? What would you do about going through with this?
