Ok, so lets take for example the Sundown SAE-1200D. 1200W @ 1ohm and an input sensitivy ranging from .153V to 5.6V. For everything in this post lets assume no clipping of the audio signal from the source unit and say the source unit is putting out 3V from the pre-outs. What is going to happen if you turn the gain knob "up" (as in toward the .2V) after you have matched the gains of the amp to the sensitivity of your source? I assume it will not put out more power. Will it begin to send the amplifier into clipping?

  2. Another great read that I felt was worth having here also: Anatomy of the Power Amplifier Dissecting the Modern Audio Power Amplifier and Power Supply By Robert Zeff With the Proliferation of Different Amp Types, Which is the One for You? In the past we had essentially two types of amplifiers to choose from: Class "AB" and class "A". Today we have AB, A, D, G, H, & T, in addition to some that do not have a class name. New technology brought down the size and price while improving performance and efficiency. We'll review the various topologies of the modern amplifier, spending extra time on the aspect of efficiency (as the quest for smaller, more efficient designs have…

Found this guide on another forum, and given the slew of recent threads on troubleshooting noise, thought I would post it here. One word of warning is that some HU's and/or processors nowadays have a zero bit mute, which essentially cuts off the output during low signal passages to reduce noise.....so be aware if this is a feature your unit has. Onward to the guide; How can you eliminate alternator whine in a car audio system? If you have alternator whine in a car audio system and want to get rid of it, there is only one sure-fire way to do it. David Navone and Richard Clark from Autosound 2000 in the USA developed the following step-by-step instructions. If you follow th…

  7. I have always been told that a fairly good way of judging the output of an Amp just off 1st glance is to take the total amount of all the fuses & multiplying this by 10 will give you a rough estimate of the RMS output of said Amp? Is this a true statement by chance or have I been misled in some way? I ask because recently I had an Orion Cobalt CB2500.1D pushing my 1200RMS 15" Soundqubed sub but after roughly a yr it shot craps on me, stopped sounding good & after 10 or 15 minutes it would start kicking in & out of protection mode...I looked around for a new replacement but after seeing what the market had to offer me at my budget price I ended up getting anoth…

Wow it looks like nothing came up... So, i'm wanting to get a Sundown SAE-1000D to power my Fi Q10. My sub has dual 1ohm coils. My question is, what will i have to do to keep my amp from burning up if i wire it to .5ohms? If planning big three and a bigger battery. Any ideas? Thanks, Michael

Just thought I'd make a little thread for my new arrival! By the way, does anyone know when these guys were produced? There she is! Picked her up for around $57.00 including shipping off ebay. The seller claimed that it was in working shape and claimed that he/she had tested it before shipping out. After opening it up i'm a little skeptical, but then again I dont know a whole lot about boards. it just doesn't look as the brand new boards that im familiar with (go figure right?). Hopefully i can test it this weekend, but time is tight in my schedule. I plan on using it to power my alpine type r's i got from Swagger_Wagon! Time for more pics! Some are displaying some spots…

  17. Edit: I am all over with this post so bear with me.. "That amp you have is junk. You need something better" So this is always the reply I seem to get when someone ask's what I have in the car. I'm 40 years old and have been out of the scene for a while. I put a simple setup on my 2014 Focus ST which consisted of stock headunit and Sony gs 6 1/2 components front and rear, Stock 160 amp alt and 0 ga welding wire to the back. Stock battery and no big 3. After that I used a well worn 12" kicker cvr d2 and a New Hifonics Brutus brx1200.1d I have ran that since Nov of last year and it's been great for my daily routine. I have decided to go to a 15" and ordered a …

This is the inside of my JBL px300.4. I have narrowed down the noise in my system (HISS) to the amplifier itself by 1) Using muting plugs 2) Removeing the amp from the vehicle and using a "test bench" if you will and a test speaker to find the same noise. It's a low hiss with the vehicle OFF and ear right up close to speakers. By "test bench" I mean I connected the amp right by my battery with the ground going straight to the battery and used a test speaker and adjusted every setting on the amp with no change - gains at zero - no rca's connected. So I took off the cover not the entire sink case and looked around. Here are the two things odd I found. I'm no expert and if t…
