Just wanted to know what all you Home Audio guru's think about Paradigm. My roommate has a pair of mini-monitors that are hooked up to an Onkyo receiver. Personally, I think they sound amazing. Yet again, they are the only real home audio speakers I've heard. Aside from Walmart specials.

Okay, I have a question. I really don't know how to word this, but I think you guys will understand. Okay, so I saw the thread a couple weeks ago (I think it was JimJ) and he was talking about these really big speakers his friend ordered. There are pictures of it in a garage. He then said it gets painfullly loud with only 7watts....That's whats confusing me. There is something I'm obviously missing here. How does it get so loud with only 7watts? Thanks

Well I just finished my Heathkit AA-151. My first tube project. I had a thread going over at ForceAudio with all the progress and pictures but the site is currently down. I'll get some pictures up in a bit. I finished mounting the RCA Jacks today, which was all that was left of this project. Prior to today I have replaced the PS caps, coupling caps, and any electrolytic capacitor. I also changed any out of tolerance resistors, and I eliminated the Xtal Phono input and replaced to according input resistors to make an additional auxiliary input. All the input Rs were also replaced. I was planning to go through and replace all the components in the RIAA Eq with 1-5% …

So i just got my behringer ep2500 today and hooked it up a couple minutes ago to my xxx. I bought some rca to 1/4" converters and turned the reciever on to hear the beast. BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ That's the only noise I can get, when I connect my ipod the sub plays fine, but when I connect the amp to the sub output of this older sony reciever (1999 if i had to guess ) I tried using my dad's bash300 amp and got the exact same noise from the reciever. Just wondering if anyone has any clue as to what I'm doing wrong or what is causing this problem. thanks

[Note] This is a re-post of my "newbie" 3/31/08 post, based on recommendation of member "denim" Mike R newbie original post Hi; I got here via my build thread on "The IB cult site", Mike R DIY IB subwoofer project. Mike R IB sub project on "Cult of IB" forum As newbie here this is my 1st post. (well, this is my 2nd post now...) To make a long story sorta short, I'm finishing my basement and doing a Home Theatre room, and I'm going with Infinite Baffle subwoofer 4 x 15" (or 18") line array. Here is a pict of that image (details in link above): I cut the concrete window this past weekend and now I need to fill that hole with a IB line array subwoofer! 16" x 66" IB sub "wi…

These aren't mine, but a friend got them in and needed some help moving them, and I had never heard Altecs this big before, so this is what I spent Monday doing... Note to self, don't drink beer and install horn throats... They're mid 1950's Voice of the Theaters, they're actually a set of three of them, we just ran out of room to aim them Gets painfully loud with under 3 watts of power...most comfortable listening was done with power levels in the fractions of a watt range.

I've got an 06 RE XXX 12 which I was going to sell. Screw it...I'll just keep it. I am not really concerned with saving space. I'm looking for something to play with music more than for movies. It will be in a rather large room (my living room and kitchen are connected without a dividing wall). Can anyone guide me as far as box size and tuning? I can do the rest. I'll be powering this with a Crown XTi 2000 (2000 watts into 4 ohms). Thanks

Hi all, I know the minimum for car audio but regarding HT setups, I'm a real newbie First of all, I want to understand some concepts: - what is the use of a pre-amp? - what is the use of a AV receiver? Only for 5.1? - is an AV receiver an integrated amplifier for 5.1? (stupid question I know lol) - what "cartridges" do? - are surround soud processors necessary? I'm pretty much set on some components for a 5.1 setup: *Blu-ray Player: PlayStation 3 *Projector: Panasonic AE2000U *Front Floor-standing Speakers: Gallo Reference 3 (pair) *Front integrated amp: PrimaLuna Prologue 2 *Center Speaker: Gallo Reference Center *Side Speaker: Gallo Reference Du

Built these for to go with the Mach5Audio IXL-18 in the sonotube I just finished: I figured I did 324 passes with the router. Baffles are 2.25" thick, backs are 1.5" thick. Took 5 sheets of MDF with (2) 4" strips left over. yes they are HEAVY!! Each driver is in .5 ft^3 tuned to 38 Hz. These are based on the ART array, but doubled. Tweeter spacing is not great, but we tested before I cut the holes for the tweeters, and they sound awesome. . . They are driven with an old school 380 x 2 RMS Carver amp, and it is like being at a concert in this guy's living room. these along with the 18" sub on 1000 watts is nuts!!! Brian

Well I am looking to get some good Vinyl Cleaner. I am listening to Pink Floyd-Meddle and damn does this record need some cleaning. I have just been using a microfiber cloth to get the dust off but doesn't always work the best. Any suggestion for a product in the reasonable price range or technique? I've seen people clean vinyls using wood glue bat that is far too time consuming and uses lots of glue. Thanks for any help here

Hi all, I am new to the "Pro sound" thing but just putting some ideas out. I am in an alternative band in High school and we are starting to get some bigger gigs and we were thinking about some subs. I have made a few sub boxes for my truck so i just started thinking about making some for the band. I was looking and partsexpress.com and saw that Dayton makes a nice looking 18'' driver for a pretty decent price. Any ideas. This is really a low budget kind of thing but I like nice chit if that makes sense. Thanks in advance, Mike B.

hiya people i am looking for an 8" woofer that will go into the box of the woofer that came with the samsung HT-Q80 surround system. something that hits, that makes people say 'Damn!! it's only an 8"!!' lookin at a JL because i am not really aquainted with home audio, leaning towards car audio as a career in fact....but if you know bttr, higher excursion, lower ohm-ed 8" woofers that will really put out, gimme a heads up....thanks here is the woofer w/ system. btw, at least 200w rms please and thank you!! http://shopper.cnet.com/home-theater-syste...ml?tag=srch_1_1 7"W x 16"H x 13-3/8"D

Ok well i need suggestions for a home audio setup for my room.... Once i get a little money i might re-do it.... I have an older (maybe 8-10 years old) Technics reciever and it is fine so i don't see any reason to get rid of it... I also have some jbl speakers from a Home-Theatre-In-The-Box type thing we bought a while back... There is a KLH sub in my room too that sucks pretty bad and would be the first thing to go.... It has a 125 watt plate amp on it but not sure how true that rating it, although i do believe it is rms.... My budget is $300 bucks for a subwoofer amp.... How much would a decent 500 watt RMS amp cost and would it be a direct hookup to where my powered su…

I have a H/K amp that I picked up off the sidewalk last year, and its been bangin pretty good for awhile, but then it blew a fuse out of no where. Replaced the fuse and it blew again, so something is busted. Its a Harman/Kardon PM645 Vxi, 60Wx2. Looks to be fairly modern, since it has CD inputs, but its got a MM/MC phono input, so it can't be too new. I like this amp because of its simplicity, only knobs on the front, no LCDs or anything, so I was wondering if anyone knew a good place to have it repaired. I read that some H/K amps have problems with the soldering going bad from the heat. I know that this particular amp heats up pretty good. I have a full schematic …

anybody ever buy a refurbished TV? In particular an LCD? I'm looking to pick up a fairly inexpensive 37" LCD and found some good deals on refurbished ones. They seem to carry full warranties, but this is an investment I want to last for a few years.
