  1. I've been getting the itch to do a 5.1 setup with a pair of nice front speakers. I've always wanted to use some Peerless drivers and I've read a lot of good things about their components. Zaph thinks highly of them so I figure I'll give them a shot. I'm looking at the 810921 tweeter, 830872 midrange, and a pair of the 830883 woofers for the 3-way fronts and just using a single tweeter and woofer for each of the surrounds. I'm undecided on what drivers to use on the center, but maybe WTW. 810921 Peerless 1" textile dome HDS tweeter Nomex 830872 - 4" Nomex cone woofer Shielded Exclusive 830883 - 7" woofer I've been wanting to test out Madisounds crossover design service as…

I'm building another HT subwoofer, this time for my roommate. The box is 4.8 cu ft tuned to 21Hz I believe. (I would have to check that again, I don't have my paper right beside me. I already have the braces planned out for this. The woofer is going to be an SI MAG d2 15" powered by an O Audio 500w plate amp. My question pertains to polyfill though. Do any of you guys recommend polyfill? Also, since this just makes the box ACT larger, does it have any effect on power handling?

Im wanting to make a little 2.1 setup with some full range drivers im looking at the fostex ff165k In the link it shows the enclosure I would probably build for them. Does anyone have expirience with this kind of setup. This will be used for watching movies and listening to music. Do you guys know what kind of power these these would need. Im starting from scratch so im also looking for a receiver or some other way to power them for under $300. Im not to familiar with Home audio so I dont really know any thing so any help is ok with me. fostexff165k

Without sounding like a complete douche and "Oh, I have so much audio equipment ..." I think everyone knows there's a lot of good pieces out there on the used market. I've got JL w7's and my share of 4-channel amplifiers. My question is about the w7, but any car audio equipment for that matter ... I know next to nothing about home audio, other than I like it and I'm sure I'll go down this route as I get older (mature / family). In this situation, is it worth holding onto these pieces and trying to make something of it? Or just go on as I would and purchase proper home audio pieces when the time comes? The only reason I ask is it would be silly to spend $500 on a 300w h…

Okay, I think I've decided on going with a 15" Dayton Reference HF subwoofer for my home audio build. My question is: should I build a crossover for this? I'm not very experienced in this, but I'm willing to learn. Should I buy a prebuilt crossover from PE? Or would the crossover on the amp be enough? I'm new to this, so I'd appreciate ALL points of view. Thanks, Ryan Also, This will be used primarily for movies, with a little music here and there. Now, what should I tune this to? SHOULD I port it? And what type of port....slotted or aero?

I am looking for a 2 channel amp in the no more than $300 range. I dont know where to turn. I originally was going to get an A/V receiver, but I dont need the video part of the receiver. The back of the TV will do just fine. Better quality anyways, and I don't need the radio. Anyways. I am going to be powering 2 KEF Q's coaxial 15-100 watt speakers at 6 ohms. And are pre-amps basically to be the equalizer? And also. If I get an amp, do I need a pre-amp? And if I need one, where should I start looking?

To me, it appears as if the woofers are on a separate circuit than the tweeters. I know they're connected somehow and I've studied the build log pictures of the crossovers, but I dont understand this calsod crossover design. If anybody could help that would be great thanks.

Hi all, I apologize for not being active in forever. I had to quit college to take care of my father with his aneurysm recovery, and now have a full time job with him, and another to get some cash. Life is busy. He is doing exceedingly well considering how bad his rupture was. ANYWAYS, I'm looking at picking up a decent turntable for my home theater. My Mom just told me she has numerous record from the 60's and 70's which I would like to listen to. I have NO knowledge of record players at all, so I'm hoping one of you with more experience could help me. I'm just looking at something to play the old vinyls. Budget under $200 preferable, and I have no problem buying…

Has anyone had any experience building transmission line enclosures for a 12" SSD. Saw a post on another forum where this person used a Fi SE, 12", to build one and everything I read about these cabinets talks about how accurate and loud they can be. Only downside is they are HUGE and heavy, but in comparison to regular sealed and ported enclosures they are superior, best match for any driver, superior SQ, and the most output. Also, this one was tuned to 25hz and would reputedly play notes an octave below that no problem. Sounds like it may be a good design for a combination music/HT enclosure. Any thoughts about these claims and or experience would be appreciated. satwil…

I'm working on my home theater setup. I'm putting A 110" screen with an epson 8100 projector. I want to build a big sub setup. I'm framing a wall out 2' to hide an old fireplace. I'll have 30" on either side of the screen to work with. One side will have a cabinet with my component stack in it. The other will have the sub. So I'll have aprox. 24" deep, 30" wide, and 95" tall. So about 40 cu ft gross. Originally I was going to run a single 18" or a pair of 15's, and I may still. But now I'm thinking, why not go with a 21"? But I'm not finding many 21's. GoLs are to spend less than $800 total and be great for movies and HDTV. It will be 80% for tv and movies and 20% for mus…

  19. Hey all, I have plenty of experience in the auto world but when it comes to home audio I am a newb. We have two existing Memphis 15's and are currently running them off of one channel of our sub amp. We use to have a servo driven unit on the other channel but it repetedly fails so I have been tasked to add another set up. We are grabbing 2 18" SSD's and I am making two seperate new enclosures, one for the 15's and one for the 18's. My question comes in how many cubes should I be looking at? It seems everyone goes really large but I dont wanna burn up the sub by not having enough resistance on the movement of the cone, so I was thinking 8 net for the 15's and around 12 net…

I'm looking to build clean boxes of mids/highs and a woofer in a waist high tower. I was going to throw matching pairs of infinity 6.5s, 5.25s, and 10" unknowns in 2 towers and an RE XXX v3 in a woofer tower. Before I start building, what do I need as far as crossovers go to connect my mids highs to a 4/8 ohm load. looking to run a 400 watt receiver and a separate amp for the woofer. ANy good equip I can look for? Any recommendations for build or getting started? type of wood that looks really clean?

I have my 360, dvd, and tv hooked up to my surround sound and am trying to have the cpu hooked up also. It has a digital audio output but the tv or dvd doesn't have a digital audio input, and my digital audio cable doesn't work with the regular audio inputs. I tried using regular RCAs to the tv and dvd but that didn't work.. So how do I hook up the computer to go to the surround sound? Here's a link for specs on the comp ___\/___ http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/se...AIN#detailspecs Thanks

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=264-821 I was wondering if it would be possible to use the new TB coax and then a large midbass in a tower and power them seperately using the cheap behringer active x-over? I was thinking the Tb coax + dayton rs270 for a 2.1 set up. If this sounds alrite, what all would i need to get this up and running? Two amplifiers, behringer x-over, reciever, pre amp, etc..?

I am interested in just a small 2.1 bookshelf system for my living room. I don't really want a whole 5.1 setup and no one else seems to care about it. The major reason for the 2.1 is mostly for movies/TV/sports/games....maybe 5% music. When I looked around, I liked the new Harmon Kardon HK3490 or whatever that does 120x2@8 ohms. I am going to pair these bookshelves with a 18" Mach Audio with a 500w plate amp. So I want something that would cross with it well. I have been leaning toward the Klipsch Reference RB-81 or something similar although the RB-61s are more in my price range. My budget is around $5-600 for the speakers. I already have stands, which are kind of tall s…
