I built this amp from scratch about 5 years ago. I also designed everything but the output stage... I weighs almost 100 lbs. It is a pretty sweet amp, it still runs like a champ day in and day out.... Class AB, 100wpc into 8 ohms, 200wpc into 4 ohms and 400wpc into 2 ohms..... So, I went ahead and cleaned up some of the crap I did about about a year ago converting my amp for 230V and adding grounding options... I added a 5 position barrier strip with selectable jumpers on the input side for setting up the primaries of the power transformers for either 115V or 230V.... I also extended the primary wires about 10" to reach the barrier strip. Next I added small toggles to…

Hi all, I apologize for not being active in forever. I had to quit college to take care of my father with his aneurysm recovery, and now have a full time job with him, and another to get some cash. Life is busy. He is doing exceedingly well considering how bad his rupture was. ANYWAYS, I'm looking at picking up a decent turntable for my home theater. My Mom just told me she has numerous record from the 60's and 70's which I would like to listen to. I have NO knowledge of record players at all, so I'm hoping one of you with more experience could help me. I'm just looking at something to play the old vinyls. Budget under $200 preferable, and I have no problem buying…

I'm looking to build clean boxes of mids/highs and a woofer in a waist high tower. I was going to throw matching pairs of infinity 6.5s, 5.25s, and 10" unknowns in 2 towers and an RE XXX v3 in a woofer tower. Before I start building, what do I need as far as crossovers go to connect my mids highs to a 4/8 ohm load. looking to run a 400 watt receiver and a separate amp for the woofer. ANy good equip I can look for? Any recommendations for build or getting started? type of wood that looks really clean?

Im building a set of speaker towers that will be used for strictly music. They will each have a subwoofer, which is my question. Im going to put in a 15'' subwoofer in each one and they will either be FI Q's or Bl's. I would like to know which ones will sound better with quality and bass and overall sounding. Power is not a problem Thanks

I am looking to build a box for 2 EHQS 12's to put in my room. The measurements of the box are 48" h x 20" w x 16" d, they are not for sure if you have any suggestions let me know I just want a tower design to go in the corner. And I was planning on using dual flared aeroports either 2 4" or 2 6". My question is how is my design will they sound good for HT use, if not please help me with my design to where they will perform the best and get the loudest. And what size ports should I use the 4" or the 6" ports, what tuning am I looking for with HT. I know alot about car audio and can build one hell of a box for a car setup but I am not too familiar with HT setups and what i…

  10. Hey all, I have plenty of experience in the auto world but when it comes to home audio I am a newb. We have two existing Memphis 15's and are currently running them off of one channel of our sub amp. We use to have a servo driven unit on the other channel but it repetedly fails so I have been tasked to add another set up. We are grabbing 2 18" SSD's and I am making two seperate new enclosures, one for the 15's and one for the 18's. My question comes in how many cubes should I be looking at? It seems everyone goes really large but I dont wanna burn up the sub by not having enough resistance on the movement of the cone, so I was thinking 8 net for the 15's and around 12 net…

My dad is replacing his 15 year old receiver, but we have no idea at what brands to look at, or really all the features we need. We need about 100 watts for the front 2 channels at 8ohms and 75 watts for the rear channels at 8 ohms. His set up is old, so no center channel yet or dedicated sub, but we have two large towers each with a tweet, a mid, and a woofer with internal crossovers. We will be upgrading to a true 5.1 system, but as of now we are keeping the old speakers, probably for another year. Inputs will be from our PS3 and out digital cable box. Im not sure if you need anymore info, if so please let me know. Budget is around 250-300

To me, it appears as if the woofers are on a separate circuit than the tweeters. I know they're connected somehow and I've studied the build log pictures of the crossovers, but I dont understand this calsod crossover design. If anybody could help that would be great thanks.

  14. hey I've got a question! i've been looking for a solution for my mp3s for a long time now. but i'm not sure what to buy. i don't want to burn them all to cd so i thought about buying a multimedia-hard disk to connect to my stereo. but it's hard to find any, and even harder to find some opinions and reviews about them... I've found these ones: http://www.storex.eu/storex/pages/produits...her=description and http://memup.co.uk/MEDIADISK-MX-SERIES-Ste...98da87f4a90c90f has anyone of you any experience with these, or another solution. i've also looked at sonos and logitech systems, they're cool but they are also whole another dimension when it comes to paying.. 16. First off let me start by saying i have no idea about anything when it comes to home audio.. i do know a lot about car audio though.. i don't know it that matters. The room is 10ft 1in x 10ft 6in x 10ft (ceiling) - its a entertainment room. My goal is to have something that sounds good when i Call Of Duty, watch Transformers and listen to Gucci Man. My budget is around 500 dollars. What i have in my head is some speakers in the corners of the ceiling, a sub woofer and speakers to put on stands and shit. - i dont know if thats an over-kill for what im trying to do or not.. the room is pretty small so i dont think it would take much.. Thanks for your time and if you need mo…

I currently have a SONY STR-DG820 A/V receiver (got it for free) and the subwoofer output is a single RCA. Is it not possible to use a Crown XTi 1000? (I have never seen connectors like the back of the Crown before) I originally was going to power a Fi Q18 with a Dayton HPSA1000-R 1000W Rackmount Subwoofer Amplifier. But then as far as the reviews go that amp is highly overrated. I don't have a serious problem with that but I would like to get a quality subwoofer amplifier because I don't plan on having the SONY receiver forever. Thanks.

I just bought a 8" Bravox Audio subwoofer (PXW8D-2). I have a 180-240rms plate amp that I will be using to power this. I was looking to build a sonotube enclosure or just a regular ported enclosure (don't matter to me). I just need to know what size enclosure (sealed and ported) would be best for this subwoofer in the home. Space is not a concern. If not a problem, I would like to know the optimal enclosure ported for 1 and 2 of these also. My problem is that the lowest my amp will wire down to is 500rms @ 4ohms. I would like to eventually try it in the car, or I might just have to find another one in the future. But back onto the main topic..It will be used for movies…

I got a set of JBL Stage floorstanding speakers for $160 from Best Buy on clearance, normal price was $400 for the pair. They sound pretty good, especially for the price, definitely not as good as my B&Ws, but good none the less. They are going in our basement for now and may be bought off of me by my brother once he starts working for the basis of a decent, cheap stereo.

My father has one of these and recently got the XM antenna for it. I am wondering if anyone else has a setup like this cause I cannot get his remote to work for the XM portion. I can change the channels by standing at the receiver, but the darn remote wont change the channel. I have googled and searched everything I know of to find an answer, but here I am. I cannot find any information about this issue. The remote is the Pioneer axd7431. If anyone has had an issue like this, please let me know.

What is usually used to mount all the parts? Piece of wood? Plastic? How do you ground the parts also. I was looking at pictures on madisound to get an idea and i understand that a ground has to be grounded to metal but how do i attach the metal to the base? Do i need to build one crossover for each bookshelf speaker?

Hi all, I am new to the "Pro sound" thing but just putting some ideas out. I am in an alternative band in High school and we are starting to get some bigger gigs and we were thinking about some subs. I have made a few sub boxes for my truck so i just started thinking about making some for the band. I was looking and partsexpress.com and saw that Dayton makes a nice looking 18'' driver for a pretty decent price. Any ideas. This is really a low budget kind of thing but I like nice chit if that makes sense. Thanks in advance, Mike B.
