Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

  1. So I was at a car show the other day and heard a setup with 4 sets of components in the doors. I was astonished by the loudness and clarity. I want to do something similar. I am on a budget and am looking to spend around $600 as far as speakers go. So yes (8) total midbasses and (8) total tweeters. I have looked on parts express and it is possible. I just don't know what to get and what would best suit my needs. I am looking for loudness and clarity. Obviously sound quality or staging is not of importance. I am trying to keep up with my 4 18s and this seems to be the best way to do it. I listen to a lot of techno and hip hop. I would like to cross over around 60 hz as f…

2 12's or 2 10's for small 4 dr sedan? (95 geo prizm) I've made up my mind on a subwoofer, I'm going to go with the Image Dynamics Version 2 but i'm not sure wether to get 2 10's or 2 12's. I don't want my trunk to rattle like hell plus I don't want to overpower my front stage. I'm going to have them in a custom built sealed in closure. Front Stage - CTX65CS - Image Dynamics 6.5" Component Speaker System Sub Stage - IDQ10V2.D4 - Image Dynamics 10" IDQ Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofer OR IDQ12V2.D4 - Image Dynamics 12" IDQ Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofer Thanks!

Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could take the time to "school" me on front stages, running three way set up, passive, active, setting the filters and gains of a front stage amp and other useful information that would help me in this hobby. -- Thanks Dom

I found a deal on a 12" TREO SSX and to be honest the best system I've ever heard was a TREO sub, which model I'm not sure. I was looking at 2 AA Avalanche 15's (old model) and I know that would pound and sound amazing, only problem is they are both dual 2 ohm and not only that the box would be much bigger. With the SSX recommending 2.25 cu ft tuned to 31.8hz would it do well playing low? Obviously it wouldnt be 2 AA avalanche 15's but what kind of performance could I expect from a 12 of this caliber? I'm gettin excited here Can't wait till I finally decide on something.

  6. I've always been a fan of sealed boxes. I know alot of you are anti-sealed and also feel that sealed setups can't get loud, but I beg to differ. Which of these could get louder sealed? 2 IA Lethal Injections 12s 1 IA Death Row 15 1 SSA Xcon 15 2 SSA Icon 12s 2 DC Level 3 12s

He told me a bunch of stuff and i will post it all here! basically i am baffled about it and though maybe someone can see somethign wrong with his setup! thanks for your time everyone and any and ALL help! here goes what he told me! let me know if you need any mroe info! " My head unit is the stock unit that comes with my 2009 Mazda 3, so I have this signal feeding into an MTX ReQ, which then splits the signal to sub and full range RCA's. The full range RCA's then feed into an Audio Control EQL ( http://www1.dealtime.com/xPO-Audiocontrol-EQL ) This ensures the signal that…

Found a deal for 2 great condition AA Avalanche 15's with the xbl^2 technology motors. Both for $500 plus shipping. Sound like a deal or what? I was planning on using my 15" Q for a budget setup but from what I know about the old avalanches I want them so bad...even though I'd have to get a better amp, bigger box and upgrade my electrical I can just imagine how worth it it would be. Ideas? Btw they are both dual 2 ohm subs so I'd be looking at what options as far as amp load and such? And by that I mean that I know what loads are possible but what could be the best way to go about it?

Hey guys have seen alot of painted boxes and for the build I'm doing I wanna go with a House of Kolors blue on the box. What kind of prep work is involved in setting up mdf to be painted? Is it neccessary to resin the whole outside of the box or will a high build primer work on mdf? thanks.

After all specs and pricing is weighed, what would be the better route? Amp would be a stetsom 4k2d or saz 3500d. Biggest enclosure I could do is 4.2 cubes before displacements. I will use two 4" x 17" aeroports (double flare). Thanks

Ok guy's I am getting a new toyota tundra in a couple week's with the factory jbl system in it. It is the crew cab model. Jbl is coming out and my stuff going in. My question is what sub's do you recommend? I have the whole back seat area to play with as I will probably take the seat out if I need the room. I have two kicker sx1250.1 sub amp's which the birth sheet's say 1610 on both of them. I am thinking 4 ss rl-p 12's. I am open to other other suggestion's though. I am leaning toward's them as that would be 805 watt's rms to each speaker which I think would be good, plus they have nothing but good review's. Let me know if I am wrong. I also have two set's of criticial …

Im looking for a good tweeter match for my MLI-6.5. Both the mid and the tweeter will be in the door. I could probably find a place to put the tweeter on axis if that matters any. It will be a active system ran off a US Acoustics USX-4065 (zed built) rated at 65x4 at 4 ohms. The substage will be a 18" xcon ran off a saz-1500d. Im looking for good sound. If it has the ability to get loud thats just a plus.

Planning on putting either the 15" Fi Q I already have or getting a 15" BL in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both would be in a ported box to specs. I've read hundreds of user reviews and have a good idea of what both can do. The Q I've only heard in a sealed box with around 1.8 cu ft at the most. Would it honestly be worth it to go through the process of selling my Q and getting a BL? Looking for ""SQL"" and basically if the BL isn't going to be noticably louder considering the Q will play lower I'm going to stick with the Q. But idk what would you do? I definately want output while mainting decent sound, playing low etc.

I having been using BBP 6 and WinISD to design a ported box for 2 Icon 12D1 and getting 2 different port lenghts. Could someone confirm which one is more accurate? My box will be made with 3/4 mdf 17 1/4 high 48 wide and 14 deep outside measurements. After sub and port displacement BBP 6 calculates this to be 4.043 cubs with a port 12.5 X 3 at 32 1/4 long tuned at 27h. WinISD says same specs with port length at 27.94. This is going in a 95 Mazda B3000 extra cab powered by a Sundown SAE 1200 for daily usage. I am fairly decent at box building but mainly just built sealed boxes. I want to try a properly designed tuned box for this new setup. Am I heading in the right direc…

I'm all new to this car audio stuff so I'm a little lost. I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and i bought new speakers for my front and rear doors. my fronts are 6x9 Boss speakers and my rears are 6.5 Boss speakers. I wanted it to be louder and not to sound like crap when i turn up the bass and treble. It now sounds good except it's the same volume limit as the stock speakers. The rear ones are 400w a piece and the fronts are 350w a piece. Shouldn't the volume be able to go a lot louder than my stock ones? is this because I have a stock head unit? Should i get an amp? Thanx.

Whats up guys. Ive been trying to build a box for my (yet to arrive) 18" Ascendant Audio Chaos but it isn't really turning out how i would like it. You guys must have some tricks/ideas that i just dont know about yet (ive only built L-Ported boxes)! I'm trying to get this box as big as possible with the small dimensions i have to work with. I dont know about the tuning frequency, i've been happy with 33hz in previous setups, but i dont know, what do you recommend? I listen to rap music. I'd like the box to fit in my (small) '99 honda civic hatch. These are the max exterior dimensions i can work with: 26.3" deep 30.7" wide 20.1" high It will have to be ported up towar…

I have a Rockford T500-1db and a Rockford P3SD410 in a ported box .75cft. I am unsure of the sound, I would like it a little tighter and deeper! I had it built buy a great shop around here, but I am looking for more, I don't mind spending some more money to get the sound I want! Maybe I should look into other shallow subs? or do you think two of these 10's sealed would be better? I already have the new Rockford T21652 components front and rear powered buy a T600-4 and a Alpine INAW-900headunit. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! I have read the internet to death trying to find a solution, in the space that I have, which is under the back seat! I am 43 years old I st…

I was recently asked to do a recone on an mt 12. No problem, got the old softparts out and when I put the new softparts, the surround doesn't touch the landing on the basket. The spider is seated nicely, yet the surround needs to go down almost 1/2". The new softparts on the motor : Old softparts vs new The recone was bought from the local RE dealer and he also is confused by the spider / surround spacing. I don't think pressing the surround down is a good idea because it will limit up-travel. What are my options now ? Except for getting another recone....
