Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

Simple question, i'm thinking about installing my component set today (finally) and i'm about to check to see if i can make a baffle board or if i need to do rings. either way, i know i have to make the MDF waterproof and i planned on using resin. Now, when making my box, i was told not to put the speaker in the box for 24 hours because the fumes from silicon sealants are known to eat away speakers. Is this true with resin? I ask because i would really like to get them running today, but i also don't want to ruin $250 worth of speakers. Looking for a quick response!! Either way i'm letting the Resin cure, but as soon as it does, will it be safe for speakers?? Thanks to a…

I am looking into replacing my front stage right now and was wanting some advise on which way to go. My budget is $500 for just the speakers in a 2-way setup. I drive a 4 door 99 Grand Am and have no speakers in the rear. My current front stage consists of the Focal 165KF running passive. The Focals sound good in the higher ranges but lacks greatly in the lower ranges. I am not looking at getting louder just more low end and detailed. I cross my sub around the 50-60hz range and would like to bring my front stage close to that range also. I am looking to better the staging in my car. Currently I have these in the kicks with the speakers aimed inbetween the two fron…

  4. Hey guys, pretty new to this forum. I currently run a boston acoustic G512-44 off of a rockford p1000-1bd amp. It is in a sealed box and sound really good. I gets pretty loud, ok for my ears anyways, 120-130. But anyways, I was thinking about getting two Mach 5 IXL-10 BR woofers. My goal of this upgrade is to have the same great sound just add a little more oomph once in a while. I do not usually crank it all the time, but when I'm in the mood, I would like a more output. I listen to Rock/Rap almost all of the time, with some classic rock and R&B sometimes. Not sure whether I would go ported or sealed. (ported with the BR series of course) Has anyone used the IXL…

  5. I've been looking for a good setup, but very confused about what I'm looking for. After reading a lot of forums I found that a lot of people are suggesting the tangbands and fountek's. I looked at some website and found these speakers. Wanted to know if this would be a good setup or not.... Tang Band W6-1721 Tang Band W5-704D Tang Band 25-1166SJ Each door will have 1 W6-1721, 2 W5-704D, and 1 25-1166SJ. Any feedback would be great.

  7. ok. I've been eyeing all kinds of tc varients, the q, the z15 and a bunch of others. Kinda think i've narrowed it down to the q or the z15. Mach5 was around in the top 3 but don't think i can get a 15 from them right now. Have also been looking at ssa dcon. Looking at powering the sub with an arc 2500 xxk on a 4ohm load in the area of 1000w rms. Box isn't built so i don't have anything to work around there except for size limits. Wanting to work within the 36x20x20 inch box size to conserve trunk space. Going ported and thinking of going either slot ported, maybe aero ports, or a transmission line (not saying i know much but know very little about those differences in p…

I've been trying to figure out some theoretical expectations from a few subs using Winisd. I want to use a sealed enclosure, but I can't figure anything out with the SSD (12 inch Dual 2 ohm) until I know the higher qts. Does anyone know what it is? Hopefully I'm not being dumb and just can't find it.

My friend has a 12" Phoenix Gold Tantrum-X subwoofer. It is discontinued. he bought it from some one for $40 in a sealed box with an 800w Boss Audio amplifier. I believe the subwoofer has a problem because we hooked it up to 2 different amplifiers and it did the same thing. (The amps were properly hooked up and set correctly.) THE PROBLEM: When you start a song the subwoofer will work like normal, but when the bass in the song becomes quiet and there's just lyrics and music the subwoofer will stop working all together. But if you tap on the cone once then the subwoofer will start working like normal again. but once the bass becomes minimal then the subwoofer will stop wor…

I have an re sx15 in a box that I've recently discovered is all wrong. I went to re's website and used their box designer. And setup a slot ported 4.2 cu ft box tuned to 34 hertz. I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with this sub and what specs you built your box to. I'll be running it at 2 ohms off an saz 1500d. I'm looking for mostly sq with the rare spl moment.

I understand it's not exactly a fair question, but I'm just trying to gain some incite. I previously owned a 12" Type R, ran 500 rms to it in a custom made sealed box of optimum size. (got stolen) Which setup do you guys think would put out the same amount of spl as it at 500 rms; A 12" Fi Q sealed, 12" Fi Q ported, or a 15" Fi Q sealed? I'm looking for sq so that isn't the question. The Type R was perfect for output, but quality was lacking. Hopefully someone has experience. Thanks

Hello. I really have a thing for sealed subwoofer setups, mainly for how well it produces all the details of drums. I understand how going sealed sacrifices output, so I was considering dual 15s sealed in the trunk of my Saturn, so as to attempt to have extra output with sealed SQ. I have around 5 cubes space available, and a Rockford p1000-1bd (I want to run it at 2 ohms @ 500 RMS). Any suggestions for a good pair of 15s of this criteria? Peace.

This is something I am saving up for, so semi budget minded. I currently have 2 JL Audio 12w3v3 in a sealed box about 3.6 cub with 1500 rms MA Audio amp. I want to upgrade amp and subs. Subs will help decide what amp I get, I am trying to decide between a pair of Sundown SA-12 and SSA ICON 12. I have been looking and studing both for a while but cant decide since I have heard great about both, and looking for some advice to persuade me one way or another. This will be for a daily driver setup listening to rap/rock mostly. I prefer to stay with a sealed box but a new box will be made for the new subs. If it helps this is going in a 95 Mazda B3000 xcab.

So 2 sa-12"s cost virtually the same as a single xcon 12" my goal is spl, not competition, its gonna be my daily driver, but id like it loud so if space isn't an issue (box with volume up to 5 cubes), which would you do? Im guessing since the sa's would just have more displacement that they would be my best bet. your input?
