Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

  1. Hello everyone, I was using the search button, but I didn't come up with a solid answer. I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I'm looking for the recommend box size for 1 orphan sealed. I've read from other post that said the orphan are about the same as the SA-8 and likes the sealed box size of .17^3ft. I've also read a post from mike, that It needed .2 to .5^3ft, but I'm not sure if it was the recommended for seal or port. I actually wanted to try out they type of boxes and see which one sounds better to me. I do want to to try to make a passive radiator box, which I believe these subs were intended for. Here is the info from another post on this forum. T/S Parame…

  2. well i think i'm pretty much sold on SI subs now. Since my car's setup is out of commission for a bit while i redo the wiring and install, i took the Magnum over to my friends who just got a SX. I always wanted to see how the SX and Magnum compared and finally got to see. The SX is an admirable sub but i think the Magnum was a little bit much for it. While the average SPL could be considered equal, the Magnum seemed to want to be abused much more than the SX. also the SQ on the magnum never really seemed to waiver while the SX had problems on really tough bass songs like the "woofer cooker" and even Perfect Circle's Lullaby and song 11 or 12 on ....(crap don't rememb…

  3. I have a down fire for 2 12s, sealed box under the seat of my silverado. When I turn the volume up to 13 everything sounds fine when playing a song with big bass. But when I hit 14+ it almost sounds like its bottoming out. But heres the thing, when I put my hand over the bump on the top of the box and press down, that farting, blurping, vibrating (whatever you want to call it) sound goes away. Its only happening on one side Is my box coming undone? Or is it probably my sub? If it could be a box issue, what can I do and how do I find out where the issue is?

I'm trying to get rid of my Type-R because it just doesn't sound that great. I've been going back and forth for the last few weeks with what I want to get. I've had a crush on the SA-8's since they came out, and I want to do two of them in either a great ported enclosure or a t-line. A couple months ago I got the bug for a 3512, which I would do either bandpassed or ported. A few days ago, a guy on PBNation got a pair of 1508's, put them in a t-line, and posted some videos, so I got hooked on that. For the last few days, i've been debating among myself which one I want. These would be powered by an AP15001D, so 1500W @ 1 Ohm. I've got a 98 malibu, and I never drag stuff a…

Well I am not sure what I want here. The level 5 15" woofer can come with several different type of coils -- d.7 d1 d1.4 or d2. If I get d2 then I can wire it to 1 ohm, but then why not just get the d1? Or could I not wire that to 1ohm and it would be pushed to .5 ohms (which I would not prefer doing seeing as SAZ are unstable below .9 ohms I believe). Oh and I am using a SAZ-3500D on a single level 5 15"

So how about it Mach 5? Why not take the current IXL motor structure from the 10 and 12 and use it to make an 8 inch version? I think it would be awesome and if priced as the IXL 10 and 12 they would be very competitive... I'd order a few, with the same motor as the 10 it would be one very very beefy sub :bigclap: It seems these days more and more are looking to drivers in a smaller size which can be seen in Soundsplinters sucess with their 8. Mach 5 should cptialise on this market Anyway... PLEASE

hey whats up everyone. i finally got my money for my amp which is going to my mag d2 15. my question is should i get the bx1000d or the bx1500d. the sub is in a 3.3 ported box tuned to 32 and its in a daily driven car. if i go with the bx1500d am i gonna always have to worry about blowing the sub. ive noticed that alot of people are giving it 1500 watts but i saw that nick said that if these subs were rated like other subs it would be 1000wrms which is why im just making sure which amp to go with. thanks alot

Hey everyone, I've been surfin the net looking to see if this is actually a myth... it seemed like there were many different takes on the situation and I wanted to get your take on it. Myth? Real? Any hard evidence? If its real... how long does it take for a speaker to break in? Andrew

Is it bad on the subwoofers if I'm running one amp on each sub? The subs are in the same ported box and i know to set the gains on the amp relatively close to one another. Is this a bad idea?

just for reference purposes, i KNOW for a fact, that 5.4 cubes tuned to 90Hz doesent work well for a 15. however, if you take about 5 cubes and tune it to 43Hz it is a much better box, until you lose the aero ports

So i decided to upgrade my frontstage and ordered a sundown sax 100.2 off db-r, it does 100w rms x 2 @ 4 ohm and 200x 2 @ 2 ohm. Now im looking for some component speakers. ive never looked into good door speakers. i just replaced my stock door speakers with cheap 6x8 3 way pioneer speakers from walmart and was fine with that for awhile. but now id like to get something thatll sound better and actually provide some midbass. any suggestions and recommendations are appreciated, i have no experience with upgrading my front stage so any input helps. my budget is around 200, i can spend a little more if i have to. i think i want to run them at 4 ohms

Hi, I had a question on whether I should have 2 FIBl 15s or one single bl15. I would be powering them with a Hifonics Bre1700. If I had a single bl It would get 1700rms. Would it be any louder with two bls but with 850rms each? The box is roughly 4 cubic feet. Any help is welcome.

Planning on putting either the 15" Fi Q I already have or getting a 15" BL in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both would be in a ported box to specs. I've read hundreds of user reviews and have a good idea of what both can do. The Q I've only heard in a sealed box with around 1.8 cu ft at the most. Would it honestly be worth it to go through the process of selling my Q and getting a BL? Looking for ""SQL"" and basically if the BL isn't going to be noticably louder considering the Q will play lower I'm going to stick with the Q. But idk what would you do? I definately want output while mainting decent sound, playing low etc.

Is it possible to easily mod the SSA DCON 12 to have a higher resonance frequency, say 39Hz? I know some subs appear to allow this by simple dust cap replacement (replace the stock dust cap with a lighter one).

that I am already wanting to try out either a new Mag, or a Rl-p, or w6. I have only had my mag for, well actually almost a year now, damn that went by fast. but I think its just from reading all the damn forums of people getting new subs it makes me want a new sub or two. well, I am definatly waiting to see the new SI sub. I love my Mag so much I am sure it will not dissapoint. I also think I am going to go back to the 3 12s configuration. I like the 15 but something about the 3 12s I miss.

I am looking into replacing my front stage right now and was wanting some advise on which way to go. My budget is $500 for just the speakers in a 2-way setup. I drive a 4 door 99 Grand Am and have no speakers in the rear. My current front stage consists of the Focal 165KF running passive. The Focals sound good in the higher ranges but lacks greatly in the lower ranges. I am not looking at getting louder just more low end and detailed. I cross my sub around the 50-60hz range and would like to bring my front stage close to that range also. I am looking to better the staging in my car. Currently I have these in the kicks with the speakers aimed inbetween the two fron…
