I found an old JL 10 for sale, didn't see a number on it. Looks like it was reconed or something but ok job. Motor is near as big as the hole it would go in, its heavy. Kind of well used looking but new JL dustcap and maybe foam on it, it is all black and stamped looking frame....any idea of value? Not sure what I could do with only one. It has thick paper gasket on top edge that is torn up some, the rest is not bad.

I'd like to start this post off by apologizing for all the crazy posts about which sub to pick and what to do with it. Even if you don't believe me (frankly, I have a hard time believing myself) I think I've decided I'll start off with 2 10" kicker cvts. If I don't like them, they're cheap enough that I could deal until I decide on an upgrade. My real question is though, if I was to do two 10's ported, at as close to 2 cu ft. after displacement, what should I tune at? I've heard people say that kickers like to be tuned to the mid 40's, but I like lows a lot. Do you think that 36-37hz would hit low enough for me? I'm not going for pipe organ lows or anything, just rap lows…

I am about to recone my SSD 12". I get the basic idea of how to recone, but not sure how to center the coil and dustcap. Any ideas/tips/advice? I'm kinda nervous about doing it myself because this will be a first time for me. Any help is needed.

My buddy has a 13w7 and burnt up a friggin voice coil on it with only like 1100 watts, how is this possible?? It wasnt overpowered, it was professionally installed in a ported box, and plus i thought it was supposted to be VERY difficult to do that to a w7??

i'm having a problem positioning my tweeter since my car is equipped with pillar airbags. My only options are in the sail panel, kicks or the dash itself. With the sail panel, my only apprehension is that when i open the door, the tweeters might get wet when it rains ( by the way, comps are RE XXX6.5's so the tweeter is pretty open ) If i put it in kicks, i might damage the tweeter since it has no grills The other option is the dash, but I'm wondering if this is advisable. I was thinking of putting it in a fiberglass pod enclosure, something like this Is it generally better to make the tweeter face upward or towards me or towards my rearview mirror ? I'm using an Alpine…

  6. Hello again. O.K. I`m a DD user who`s about to jump ship. I have 4x PowerBass XA-3000D amps. Use to compete in dB drag Street "C" Anyway. I`m fed up now cos all I can do is turn up at a show, BURP & that`s it, battery charging again. So I`m ripping out my boot install & now want to have a No-Wall install using 4x S.I. Magnum 15" in a ported box tuned to 27Hz or so. I want some STREETBASS again A few questions though. Can the Magnums take a PowerBass amp each? I was actually planning to use just 2 PowerBass amps to power the 4x Subs. If they can take one amp each that would be something. Bear in mind that I want to turn up at a show & play the system LOUD &am…

I would like to try and build a ported box for a 12" Kicker CompR but need some direction. I downloaded some apps and did some reading but I think it may have confused me even more. Does anyone have plans for a box design? Thanks for any help.

So lately one of my friends insists that we "have a concert" every time were in my car because hes never really heard any good speaker setups and mines the best hes heard, but all I have are kicker ssmb6 midbass on ~55 watts and 3.5 coaxials in pods on the a pillars run off the HU. The sound impresses him but if its going to be a concert I want a louder more full sound. I dont know much about what component sets are good and I was hoping for some input as to what I should get, assuming a passive component set will be a decent improvement. SQ isnt the most important thing, I really just want a loud clear full sound. This is going in my honda accord and I only have abou…

  9. I have one 12" fi ssd in a 2.5 ft^3 box, tuned ~32 hz. Im planning on getting the sundown 1200d v.2 with another 12" ssd. I'm thinking about attaching the new sub to the front of the current one, (so the cones are facing eachother), granted they'd be out of phase and far enough apart so the surrounds dont make contact. Im wondering if this will produce the same or worse sound quality than I'd get with a regular 5.0 ft^3 box for the 2 subs. This way, I could save what little trunk space I have left without having to make a whole new box. Should look something like this:

I'm going to make a enclosure that will use almost all of my trunk space, so I'm going to make the bottom out of fiberglass so that I can use the space from the spare wheel well. The port have to be so long that it will close off 1/3 of the opening of the spare wheel well. Few pictures to illustrate the problem: from the side From above: Will this be a problem? And how will this affect the subwoofers?

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=264-838 They also come in a 6x9 version. I'm thinkin 2 or 4 in a ported box. Tuned low... might do it for home setup, or see if I could have a smaller box designed for my buddys jeep and use those, so he could put his back seat in and drag around his friends.

Yep, we sent our 12" BM prototype to JimJ without ever listening to it. A lot of people would say that's a pretty stupid thing to do. But we have enough confidence in the new BM line from auditioning the 10" model that we jumped out on a limb and send him the driver. Jim has a prototype with a few things fixed vs. the 10" model - mainly the surround color - but not everything is finalized on this prototype. The only big thing left to do is to treat the dust cap for a different finish. But besides the latter, the driver Jim has will perform just like the production drivers will. Jim sent me an email yesterday letting me know he got the driver and will be testing it…

I am working on ordering some subwoofers for my new boat. I have limited areas and based on my rough measurements (I am going to go get more accurate ones as soon as the dealer has the boat inside) I should have about 2.7 cubic feet per sub before displacement (2 seperate boxes of different dimensions and I may have more like 3 cubes, but am working on the short side based on the measurements I have). I will be powering them with a Exile 2500.1 which puts out 2500 watts rms @ 1ohm (plan to run two dual 1 ohm subs so I can wire them to a 1 ohm load on the amp). I know the Q is 1000 watts RMS and the Xcon 1750. Will 1250 be enough for the Xcon? I have read such great th…

I recently got 2 sundown audio sa-15, i put them in a 7cuft box tuned to 35 hz. I have the big 3 down and a yellow top optima under the hood. I plan on having the amp professionally tuned to their won't be any clipping. So here's my question.... If i buy a hifonics brutus 2400.1 can the subs handle it? i've heard people can put more on them so anybody that has these want to give me some input?? thanks!

  20. Started by Trepkos,

Well, the issue I am having is that I am running the component set off of a Sundown SAX 100.2 2-channel amplifier which is rated at 100watts x 2 channels @ 4-ohms. The issue I am having is that I have the gains on this amplifier set at 1/3 of the way, the volume on the HU is at 26/35(roughly around 75%), volume offset at +3db's, and the EQ settings on a preset setting. No loudness on the Ipod EQ or the HU EQ. So I decided since I must be exceeding the tweeter's power handling that the amplifier must be outputting atleast over 20 AC Volts(= 100watts at 4-Ohm). So I took a DMM down to amplifier speaker outputs and decided to see how much voltage was being sent to the compon…

what do you say to this: Sealed boxes:"Sealed Enclosures are designed for sound quality and offer very low tuning frequencies. If you are building a system where the goal is to listen to music, these are the enclosures to build. They offer the best low frequency performance of all the designs." Ported boxes:"These enclosures will deliver higher sound pressure levels than sealed enclosures. The perceived loudness will be lower than a sealed enclosure, although the metered number will be higher." [ORION AUDIO] i always thought ported box were louder in all aspects. now orion says sealed is louder to ear than ported. how come?? and i simply dont understand the physic behind…

here we are again with more doubts in my mind about the amp I have in my single cab truck with the subs I want. Ive gottin it down to where Im torn between the Fi X 10's series and the Fi SSD 10's series. The X series is signifacntly cheaper but only has the BP power option on it, whereas the SSD has alot more capable. my budget is at $400 and I am getting a custom ported box designed accordingly that fit 2 10's. (yes I am possitive I can get enough proper cubic volume to match either of these subs behind my seat.) If I chose the SSD's, getting all of the available options to maximize its ability, it is out of my $400 range. so thats my predicament, get the BP power…
