So I was bumping my ssd yesterday on my home stereo receiver and I cranked it up a little bit to let the sub move a little bit. I realized it was making noise and immediately turned it down. The noise was like a vibrating slap, its kinda hard to describe. The slap was only audible on certain frequencies. I was probably putting a good 100 or so watts to it and I guess my receiver started clipping it. Will clipping make your sub make a noise? If its not that I was thinking maybe bottoming out? I don't really know whats causing it but I'm hesitant to put it on 800 watts.

Hey guys, been a looong time. I've always been a noob and now I'm a noob that took a few years off so I'm also rusty, so any help is appreciated haha Currently, I'm in a 2008 Envoy. After having 2 systems stolen in the past, I'm trying to keep it as "stock looking" as possible. I'm going with this subthump box: http://subthump.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_19&products_id=65 Narrowed my sub choice down to the Sundown SD-2. Mounting depth is fine on either so that's not a concern, but volume is. Sundown's site reccomends .5 sealed for the 10 and 1.0 for the 12. This prefab box offers .81 sealed before displacement so it's right between the two. http://www.sundownaudi…

I've been searching all over here and CA.com for vented box specs for my Mag. I've tried using the box calculator at subwoofertools.com and I keep coming up with ~73in^3 of port area. From reading around it seems like I should be closer to the low-mid 60s. Am I correct or should I just stick with the plans swt.com is giving me?

I am looking at getting a new woofer for my car. I will be running 4000 watts when i redo my system and was wondering if the LVL 4 XL will hold up to this amount of power or will i definitely have to look at the LVL 5? It will be used mainly for daily use with occasional spl use.

Hey Mark, I still haven't used my SPL-12s that you sold me about a year or more ago. Haha. I remember you mentioning something about the SPL-12s popping the dustcap off when they are pushed? You said drill holes in the dust cap, I can do that carefully, but is there a specific pattern or anything like that? I want to make it look neat, not look like somebody attacked my subs with a drill, haha. I'm not sure how far I'm going to push these, this is just for reference.

I'm planing on building a new sub box and was wondering what would be the best way to get the mdf cut? Box will be 36" wide X 18" high X 16" deep I know I have to take 1.5" off some measurement but what would be the best way of doing it? I will be getting the mdf sheet cut at Home Depot. Thanks EDIT: Does this sound right" Front/back 36" X 18" top/bottom 36" X 14.5" sides 14.5" X 16.5" and the port is also 16.5" high I just having a hard picturing it in my head.

Special thanks to Ryan for the box! I still have a lot of work to do. But so far I have one mag 12 in and am giving it about 400rms at 4 ohms. I will eventually have 2 12's with 1000rms going to each of them. I have a US Amps MD2 to power the subs. Here are some pictures for you all to see. Here is the Pioneer HU I recently installed. I will be getting the deh-880prs and putting that in as well. And here are some pictures of the car in case you are wondering what it looks like. And yes, the steering wheel is upside down and it drives me crazy everytime I look at that picture. I will keep everyone updated on my progress. Ben

So I bought 2 15" polk/momo subs off crutchfield (way before I found this site) and they rock my Geo very well. The other morning on the way to work (my beautiful biweekly commute from Sac to Fresno, Ca on the nasty smelling 99) bumping as usual, I smelled something funny besides the highway and quickly realized it was the subs. I know I had too much power going to them ( Hifonics BXI2006) from the start but used it anyway. So before I could turn it down the subs shut off...then the smoke started coming from the port holes and I thought the box was going to start on fire driving down the road! So today I pulled the speakers out to expecting to find something fried but..…

What's the cutout and overall diameter of the D2 15? Oh, and when building a box, should the baffle go inside the 4 sides, or on top of the four sides? Thanks.

I was given a pair of Earthquake DBXi-12D subwoofers...I found out when i tried to put them in my friends truck, that they are in fact blown. They are supposed to be 4 ohm DVC, but as you can tell from the pics below the VC's are damaged. My question is would it be worth it to look into a recone? These are the speakers in question. Thanks in advance for any input. Luis

I have been shopping a bunch of different subs to upgrade to. I have locked my budget to 450 MAX. I have been looking at 4 12" type r's. Just recently, I got more interested in 2 15 type r's. Now I am between the 2 15 type r's and an aa havoc 18. I will be running small sealed- 4 cu ft. right now, probably get another cube with a few mods to my box. I have 4 10" mtx thunder 5500 at this time, and I listen to mostly rock/metal, 70's,80's and a lot of Pink Floyd. I want: 1) better low freq extension, 2) keep the tightness that I have right now 3)more spl. I have an saz1500d for power. Any honest opinions/recommendations plz? Pricing: 4 12 type r: 440 shipped 2 15 type r:41…

I'm looking for a decent sub that i could possibly find on the internet for cheap with no warranty or anything. This sub is temporary so i'm not concerned about the sub blowing in a short amount of time; i just need it to last until this summer. I'm concidering buying 2 kicker cvr 12's...they are like $80 a piece...does anyone know of a sub that would be better around the same price range maybe $20-$50 more expensive btw i have a box that is like 2.5 cubic feet per chamber and the port is tuned to 33 hz according to an online tuning calculator

I have a friend with 2 JL 10W3v3 under the back seat of his 2002 dodge ram and wants to know if he should get 2 Fi SSD 10 to replace them. I know that the SSD's handles more power, but would the switch be worth it? Thanks any input welcome.

Okay guys, I hear you all talk about active and passive front stages all the time, but I don't know the difference between the two. I am tired of not knowing and finally worked up the courage to ask. I hope I'm not made fun of or anything for it!

ok, well i am loving the Magnum and wantto add a 2nd 12 into my car, no 15s too big. But one, i know they no longer make them and only newer ones will be coming out. Secondly they only make D2 versions. Should i wait for the new ones to come out and will they be D4 or should just buy another one of the older siler multi spoke ones and get another amp?

Hi all, I am looking to get a new subwoofer for my car. I have narrowed it down to the following based on reviews online..... All 12" speakers FiQ, Fi SSD, ICON, or maybe go with two DCONS or FiX's. I will have to get a box anyways, so one or two subs is an option. I have 1000watts @ 1ohm / 750 @ 2ohm to power the sub(s). I want something that will play tight, clean bass with a good kick but at the same time get a little loud if I want. Mainly rock music and hip hop, some jazz and classical. No country From past expierence I prefer the sound of sealed enclosures, however I would not rule out a ported enclosure if it doesnt get muddy or boomy. Oh, budget is around 300 f…
