I currently have an older 12 alpine type r 2nd gen. Does anybody think going to a soundqubed hds312 would be an upgrade as a daily driver sub or would it just be wasted money? There is also no mention of the hds312 box recommendation, and I am wondering if it would be ok in a 1.5 cube sealed OR 2 cube ported. I would be running it off of hifonics brz1200.1d at 2 ohms for 900 rms but highly doubt it since stock voltage isn't at 14.4v, so maybe closer to 700?

Hey Gents! Could you please give me speaker recommendations for an active 2 way front stage? I want to run 1 set of tweeters where the tape measure is in this pic: 2" OD is probably the largest I'd like to mount here. I would like to put a 6.5" driver in the lower factory location: The direction of the 6.5 is not ideal as it points down and forward, but I really don't want to build custom kick panels at this time. I will be running a Pioneer 80prs HU, which I want to run active. I do not have the 4 channel amp yet, but the Crescendo 800.4 is my top runner right now when it comes back in stock. It's rated around 130w x4 @ 4ohm. $300 is a good amp budget for…

i have a little problem in choosing which sub and how many. right now my setup in a singer 250amp alternator 6 phase with a dc audio 3.5k and a single IA DR upgraded goodies 15d1 in a 3.27cubic box before sub displacement my question is which 1 10" weather it be the xcon or icon could handle the power from a dc audio 3.5k after break in time. and still have a little room to shine or im debating getting 2 10" or a single 12". my problem is idk what kind of power people are giving the subs before they get "toasty" and want to "send out smoke signals" thank you in advance for your help

Hey guys, been a looong time. I've always been a noob and now I'm a noob that took a few years off so I'm also rusty, so any help is appreciated haha Currently, I'm in a 2008 Envoy. After having 2 systems stolen in the past, I'm trying to keep it as "stock looking" as possible. I'm going with this subthump box: http://subthump.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_19&products_id=65 Narrowed my sub choice down to the Sundown SD-2. Mounting depth is fine on either so that's not a concern, but volume is. Sundown's site reccomends .5 sealed for the 10 and 1.0 for the 12. This prefab box offers .81 sealed before displacement so it's right between the two. http://www.sundownaudi…

I am working through my front stage as time allows and have some questions. i was told "told" that a mid range speaker should not be placed more than the radial distance of its counter part's (high range) cone diameter apart. if it is then the phase should be reversed. is this not a situation that one would use time alignment and perhaps a bit of phase adjustment (not just flip it 180) to compensate for any audio impurities with a tweeter and mid range placed a good deal apart? secondly: I just got my new Hertz 25 tweeters today, they sound very nice outside of the truck. tomorrow i intend to hook them up and this will leave only mid bass to contend with. at present th…

Hey I'm new here on the forums so forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong section! I'm really interested in the X series from Sundown. I wanted an X 18, but from what I read, it would need like 6 ft^3, and I just cant get that much into my 3G Eclipse. I took some measurements for about the biggest rectangular box I could fit, and came up with a little more than 4 ft^3. First of all, I need advice on which speaker(s) to get. Should I just put the 18 in the 4 ft^3 box? Go with an X15? or go with 2 X12's? Whichever we come up with, I'm going to need a box for! I'd like to port the box and tune it to around 30 hz, maybe 32 (which I know is a little high for the X series). …

I feel I am confusing myself here. a subwoffer with dual voice coils has a rated wattage of 500W, that is for a single voice coil? if its for both voice coils is it rated at 500W in series or parallel? wiring a dual 1ohm sub that is rated at 200W in series means that sub can still take 200W as that's what the first voice coil sees. wiring a dual 1 ohm sub that is rated at 200W in parallel means it can take 400W as that is what the 2 coils can take together. am I right or wrong here in the way im explaining this? (again this is how it was just explained to me at work and now I feel confused.) if you have a dual 2 ohm sub you can wire that sub up to 4 ohm or down to 1 o…

Scooped this up for $40, thought that was a decent deal. Its a 12 and originally a dual 2. Id like to get a quality recone kit for it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Id like it to be a dual 1.4 with attached leads and as close to stock as possible, unless there's reasons I shouldnt. itll be used for daily listen, ill be runnin a sundown sae 1200 @ 1 ohm to it in a 2 cu ported box tuned to 32 hz. I have a 12 spoke basket I could use if that gives me different options; more excursion?

Hello, I have a 2013 Chrysler 200, and the upgraded 3.5" Kicker coaxial speakers I have in the dash leave a LOT to be desired. I've installed car audio components in my previous cars, but I have never really been successful in achieving a desirable setup; most likely because of my lack of expertise in car audio installation. Hopefully this time I can do a better job, but in all honesty I will not have the capabilities that I see some people have (yeah, I can't custom mount a midbass driver in the kickpanel... lol). I'm most likely looking at a 6.5" component set, and mounting the 1" tweeter in the factory dash location. It will be easy to have the tweeter aiming str…

Hello guys, I currently run a DD 9515 in a 3.8 ft" box tuned to 35 Hz with a 6.5" round pvc pipe. The port has a little flared on both ends. My amplifier is Incriminator 2.0. I have 2 AGM batteries and the big3 is done. No voltage problems. I am used to xcons, icon, and Fi btl n2. And I loved them all ! The btl n2 was my favorite : more punch than the xcon and still sounded good. I am looking at the SSA Zcon and at the Fi sp4. But I am open to suggestions. I found the DD to be brutal, it can play all the notes I want but it's "dry", not round enough. I don't know how to explain it. It is loud and can get low in this box. What would you suggest ? I would like to ke…

Alright guys I'm a total noob when it comes to wiring stuff. This is my first system and I want it done right! Let me tell ya'll what I got. I have Rockford Fosgate 5 and 1/4s all the way around with an Alpine MRV 300 powering them. I just got my Crescendo S1500 to power my Sundown X 12. I also have a Kinetik HC 1200. I have to splice the 0g wire I have going to my amp and run it to my second battery so I got a 0g splicer. I have to go and pick up some 0g ring terminals so I can solder them to the 0g. From there I'm pretty freaking lost right about now! I'm lost as to how to wire my dual 4ohm down to 2ohm. Any help or expertise would be awesome. Thanks guys.

I have more work to do, but so far I have to say the XCON is a low end beast! I built a sealed enclosure that is 1.25 cubes and have a temp amp right now which is a RF 500.1. I have some fine tuning to do, but right off the bat, I know I will be happy with this sub. Played a couple tracks from Bass 305, some Decaf, and some Lamb of God. The presence of the sub is amazing! Completely transparent and I cannot tell where the sound is coming from most of the time, which is due to the setting I have the crossover at currently. I have the crossover set a little high right now, right around 80hz. I'll start to dial it back after I mess with my comps a bit. I haven't had a sub…

So I have been in desire of adding more midbass to my set up. Currently I am using the Sundown CS6.5 set up from only. I feel that i am going to damage the 6.5 that came with this set if I do not pursue an alternative to help cover this midbass I am desireing. I will be sealing up a fiberglass enclosure on my doors. I have been looking at a a couple set ups and was hoping for some advise. I am looking for a midbass driver that will run around 50hz and up not sure where my upper cut off will end at this point. I have been looking at three speaker on is called a subwoofer and the others are called midbass drivers. well here is what I have looked at: 1.Sundown SD8 this w…

Hey everyone, new member but I've been lurking for awhile searching for a solution to my bass needs but figured it would be smarter just to tell everyone my situation and get some personal opinions. SO, I'm looking for a single or dual sub/amp setup for my passat and i want to spend no more than $600 on it. What I'm used to: In my s-10 extended cab i have a 10" type r (swr 1042) powered by a 400w rms pioneer and a 12" MTX square (ts85) powered by a 975w rms kenwood amp. The type r is in a .5^3 sealed box and the mtx is in a 1.6^3 vented box tuned to 35hz or so. I enjoy what i have in the s10, works well for dubstep and all flavors of rock which is mostly what i list…

I drive a Chevy Silverado 2002 extended cab, and I have the box built for 2 sundown X15s that sundown recommends on their website. My question is, will anything be effected if I put the subs on top facing the roof and the port in the middle facing my windshield. Or should I have it subs up, port up? I'm just wondering if there is a difference and what would be best. Thanks

my coworker just got in some Xtants. they are 10" and he is running 150W off a JL 5 channel amp and they sound quite nice, clear, linear, and smooth. not as loud as i would like but quite musical. I am running my home computer sub in my truck off my Viper 2500.1D in my truck right now while i decide on new subs. it is far more musical and flat than my SP4 was and while - at the time - i wanted to have ultra low and super loud i feel i have experienced that and wish to build a much more musical system. the sub i have in my truck right now is this one, purchased when i was 16 and has been used for many years, it is in a 4.7 cubic box tuned to 35Hz and i want my new subs to…

I have a sealed box that I bought for my Trans Am (well, Firebird back then, before I upgraded) about 7 years ago. I love the way it looks, and it allows me to store my T-tops in the rear. It was made for 2x 12" Kicker L5s, which I just got rid of because they sounded sloppy. They were loud, but not in a great way. I am in the process of modifying the box to allow 12" circle subs, and each chamber will have around 1.1cu ft each. I want my setup this time around to be a little cleaner and sound better. Last year I installed some CDT components up front, with 6.5" CDT woofers in the rear. I plan on powering them with a PPI P900.4, just waiting to make sure it will f…
