Subwoofers / Speakers

I am getting very mixed opinions about this. I have 2 12 inch ssd's going in a 04 escalade running off of a saz 1500d. What should I make a sealed or a ported enclosure. give me the reason why don't just pick one. What is the biggest difference between the two. It is my first real setup, so I don't know. The SSD's can be in either enclosure.

All this hustling & bustling with enclosures,has ne1 tried a free-air install with the Mags?At one time I tried it with a eD12O,it sounded OK but it didnt have enuff output for my taste.Maybe 2-12's would've done it, anyhow I think I read that some of u are going free-air,I would definitely like to hear ur input.NO Nick,I'm not plugging my Mag into a wall socket nor am I doing any free-air test tones(LOL),just wanna know how they would do in this type of setup.So with that said lets get out the MDF and start cutting out those baffles! :boink:

I know most of you guys over here are all for SI and SS and it doesn't seem like you get much talk over here about RE. Well my question involves RE, and I'd appriciate some input... I drive a 1995 Ford Explorer XLT. I was going to pick up a set of 12" RE SEs and port them at 33 Hz. I was going to use the following box deminsions: 36" length 13.5" height 23.5" depth Well today I measured and made some what of a template to see how big the box would be in my Explorer. Everything is fine except I don't want it so deep. I've talked with a few guys from RE or who know alot about them and they said I couldn't really make it any smaller. Is that true? im wanting to use one of my maw-15s in a ht application. I figured that the bash-300 off mach5's website would power it quite well and be very nice in a 2cuft stuffed box. however there is no way for me to run the maw at 4ohms is there? its only 2 and 8 with dvc?

I recently ordered I'd CX62s to run off of my sundown 100.4. I want to find some 2 ohm comps that can handle around 150wrms and can be had for around or less than 200. I got my IDs for under 150 so hopefully it's possible.

I am thinking about re-doing my setup and would like some opinions. I am thinking about moving my 4 DP21"s to the passenger side, and port on drivers side. Then the idea for 8 15"s started creeping into my head. The subs in each setup will be on 2k wrms each, so it's not really a fair comparison since it will be twice the power with the 15"s, but o well. The 8 15"s would be on bottom with the port across the top most likely. Some of the subs I have been considering for the 15"s are: BTL's, new DP's, Lvl 5's, and Exos. I need a pair of inexpensive 5.25 for my doors of my explorer. I am gonna have about 60watts per channel. I dont wanna spend over $70 tbh im pretty broke right. The bostons I bought used were blown so I need some door speakers now. What would you recommend? I dont like harsh tweet want more natural sounding. I have had good luck with boston, old school orion, cdt, and image dynamics.

i found this design on the web, and i was wondering how good it is. i know absolutly nothing about these types of designs. i would like to learn how they work, so if someone could elaborate a little it would be great....at least if this design is anywhere near accurate...

using my kenwood excelon x10d - 600rms at 2ohms (1ohm stable but no power rating). which would be the better sub. i listen to metal, rock, alternative rock. basicly nice accurate bass with some decent kick is the goal. i have polk db 5.25 and 1000(1in tweets) up front and 6x9s in the rear. all off the the sony hu (cdx gt310) the aa would be alittle overpowered and the fi could be run at 1ohm or 2ohm depending on vc options budget it under $200 if anyone has another option that sould be considered.

So I am going to get a 15" Mag and want to know the optimal size box to build for my trunk. My MAX dimensions are as follows: 17 1/4 in. high 33 1/2 in. long 18 in. deep I used the speaker calculator from BCAE that I found on a google search and it calculates these numbers to 5.844 ft. ^3. Seems high to me, but??? The smaller the better, yet I want it to hit lows as well as it can without sacraficing to much. I'm running a Sundown 1500D. Any assistance is much appreciated.

Well here goes: I have 2 15" RE SX's and two Sundown Audio SAZ 1500d's. Problem is, the Fs of the SX is 27.8 and the box that I'm going to use(or was gonna use) is tuned to 54hz. Now being that the Fs is 27.8, it's not a SPL sub now I realize in a box that is tuned to 54hz.(I'm still learning I'm a semi-newb) I've heard the 15" SX in a 46hz tuned box with a 1000 watt DD amplifier and it sounded ok, but I've had a few people tell me, these 2 SX's are going to sound bad as in terrible in a 54hz box. Does anyone have any opinions/suggestions/solutions or alternatives? I may be switching sub's and if I have to whats a better alternative? I need 2 15's with the Fs around 34-…

Got my 2 15" xl's in love every moment of them they are absolutly amazing I was wondering how much of a difference will there be after they get a good chance to break in?

Im new to sound systems and I 'm looking for a sub that is the cleanest and produces the most bass for under a 1000 dollars. I already have a Hifonics Hf I Monoblock 2000 watts rms amp and would prefer to be able to use that. Open to speakers up to 15 inches.

been out of the loop for about 3-4 years now and dont know whos making what anymore. not looking for anything crazy just something to fill in the low end for the hour long drive everyday. small box, low power, >$100 music- little of a lot. country and rock mostly. a little top 40, hip hop, talk radio.... going in a civic trunk. got an alpine headunit 9855 i think, the one with the "glide" bar at the bottom.? jl 6.5" in the doors with an alpine 2 channel amp. not to brand loyal, but i dont want junk. again nothing fancy just wanna fill out the music. i think a single 10" or 8" will work. so question is whats a "good deal" now a days? - rob

I havent been on here in a while and im needing some help.I finally got all of the equipment for my system.It consist of 2 sets of Pioneer Premier 63/4 comps 1 set of Infinity 61/2 comps.An Orion 2100 HCCA pushing 2 custom built 15s and a Kicker 3 way crossover and a bunch of dist blocks,fuses,Rcas ect.All of this was going in an ext cab Chevy,but some lil 18 yearold rearended me and totaled out my truck.Damm im pissed talking about it.My question is can i squeeze 8.4 cubs out of a 1st gen RX7?Thats the car im buying cause dont have enough for another truck.Does anyone have one or know someone that has a setup like this?Any imput would help out alot.Thanks in advance.

There's a chance I may need a recone or something (hope not ), my sub amp has been cutting out the last two days and the protection light was on. Gonna take a DMM to the coils sometime soon. but my question is........would there be any gain by reconing my older model D2 with the new Mag's soft parts? Or do you think I should just get a new Mag?

My IXL's are getting delivered today, on the SSA site it says 800wrms, on the Mach 5 site it says 1000. Which is correct?

I got my 12" Magnum today. Such an amazing looking work of art. I am hoping to get my amp rack done and get it in the car this weekend. Then I just need to wait for my 302's and then I'm done. Who hoo. It starting to feel good. I am really excited about it now.

This will be in the next 1-2 months. That's the box. The subs are Lanzar 15" MAX Pros 2000w max. Amp is a Kenwood KAC-1000D or w/e. Any suggestions to the box or changes that will make them hit harder?

im looking for some good 6.5 mids for my 2005 durango. my factory radio is amplified. i will be adding an aftermarket amp for my aftermarket HU for mids. ( i tend to take out all my aftermarket stuff alot(crooks) ) i have a pioneer 6000 deck "new style", 18'' loaded btl; amp got stolen but getting a sundown 3000, but im going to switch between that and my kicker L7 of a us amps 1600.4 bridged at 4 ohms to put 1100 rms to the L7. so there will be plenty of bass. i have tried the alpine type R mids and they did not work for me. i was thinking focal. but ide like to get a few idea's from you guys. and what amp would you recomend on them. thanks.
